Man, what a temptation…
Sam’s Club has Switch 2 bundles in stock. But I just dropped preorders for the fall (damn con season!), and I’ve been trying to pay down things. Again, as good as DK looks…Metroid is my “big” game, and there are rumors it might not make it out this year. Plus I’ve heard about some technical issues with the hardware (like dock cooling) which may make it worth it to give time for Nintendo to refine the manufacturing with a later revision (which probably won’t be available until later in the year).

Nintendo also announced a Pokémon Bundle coming in October…but I really don’t care about Pokémon, but it looks like THAT bundle is replacing the current Mario Kart bundle.

There’s rumors of a Nintendo Direct coming in the next couple weeks, I might just wait and see what gets revealed there before making any commitments.

I finally got my e-mail to purchase a bundle from Nintendo the other day. Just let it expire. I'd love to get one, but the finances just aren't there right now. I'd love it if they do a Zelda-themed console by the time I can afford it.

Partner Showcase!
Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection! Yeah, okay. I could be down with another Monster Hunter spinoff. They tend to be pretty solid.

Once Upon a Katamari! Roll up stuff in different time periods. Sure. That's a fun enough gimmick for one game, at least. Not sure if it's a must-play. But, maybe it'd be fun.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero! And it includes Goku?! Inconceivable!

Plants Vs Zombies Replanted! It has returned! Did it ever actually go anywhere?

Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac! Huh, I guess the first remake must have done well enough to greenlight another one. I kind of forgot the first one existed.

Final Fantasy Tactics! Yeah, that's a classic worth playing if you never have before. Full voice acting is a nice addition.

Persona 3 Reload! Another good RPG, if you never played it. I have it on PS4 already, though. So, I probably won't get it again.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment! The game's looking good! I do like how they're releasing these Warriors games in between mainline Zeldas, since the wait can be so long.

Chillin By the Fire! Truly a game that could ONLY release on the Switch 2. Have cozy games gone too far? How long until they literally make a "watching paint dry" simulator? Not my kind of thing, I guess.

Hela! The main character being a relatively realistic mouse walking on two legs is off putting to me. I do not like this. And I've read Redwall and Mouse Guard, so it's not just because the main character's a rodent. This game just looks a little stiff and "cheap", at the moment. Maybe I'm being too harsh. We'll see.

Star Wars Outlaws! It released to middling reviews on other consoles, so I'm not sure if the Switch 2 version will be any better.

Cronos The New Dawn! This actually seems to be doing a few interesting things. It's got a "sanity system" ala Eternal Darkness. It's got Dead Space and Bioshock vibes. There's time travel. And mutating enemies. This could end up being a game to keep a eye on. Maybe it's better played on other systems, but this might be a good version, too.

Yakuza Kiwami 2! I really need to check out a Yakuza game some day. I hear good things.

The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales! Okay, now we're talking. A HD-2D action game. Like a Zelda or Mana game in the style of Octopath Traveller. This looks like a lot of fun! Speaking of which...

Octopath Traveller Zero! They're really going all in on the HD-2D games. Good thing I like the style. I've enjoyed the other Octopath Travaller games, so I'll probably pick this one up, too.

Indie Direct!
Mina the Hollower! Still looks like a pretty fun little Zelda-like. I do like the pixel art on this one.

Well Dweller! Okay, that clown-diner boss is kind of disturbing.

Neverway! This looks like it gets pretty psychological. I don't know. It looks a little too black-on-black for me, personally.

Herdling! A..."herding" simulator. Okay, well, that's kind of a unique take on the walking-sim genre. The entire game being a escort mission sounds like it could get annoying, though.

Is This Seat Taken! Not my kind of thing.

Little Kitty Big City gets a update! More customization! And new content! Neat!

Content Warning! Whisker-Head will haunt my nightmares. A horror game mostly revolving around getting views on your videos. So...it's basically "Paranormal Investigators" the game?

Ball Pit! Yeah, this is basically a shmup. I appreciate "New Ball-bylon", though.

Glaciered! Huh. It's kind of giving me a cross between Ecco the Dolphin and Panzer Dragoon a bit. I'm not sure if I like the main character's design, but I kind of like the vibe. This might be one to keep a eye on.

Winter Burrow! I like the mouse-designs better here than in Hela. These are a lot cuter.

Strange Antiques! A cursed curio shop game. That could be fun.

UFO 50! I hear good things about this game. It's probably worth checking out.

Kirby Air Riders Direct!
We have...multiple choosable characters! Unbelievable! I wonder how deep they'll end up going? Surely, there'll be more characters, at least through DLC? I'm pulling for Zero, the giant bloody eyeball, getting added to the roster!

Huh...Sakurai actually wasn't the one who pitched this game. His bosses were the ones who suggested it. Weird, given that they have Mario Kart and all. Why would they really want another Air Rider? It would actually make more sense as a passion project from Sakurai.

That's a REALLY quick start to the race! There's actually a pretty nice sense of speed here. At least when you're boosting.

Everyone gets a special move, so that's kind of neat. I guess different special moves are tied to different color palettes, at least for Kirby.

Huh...The Paper Star Machine is "fragile". So...your Machiens can take damage? I guess that explains what the attacks do.

Tank controls?! In my racing game?!

Partially damaged Machines get a speed boost. Interesting.

Magolor! Gooey! Waddle Doo! Knuckle Joe! Susie! Now, we're getting interesting! Gooey has a bunch of fun animations!

EVERYONE can use copy abilities for random enemies they find on the track! Hats for everyone! Okay, that's a fun addition. And some of the designs for the different forms are bound to be fun.

Huh, the Rider can also walk around on the course without a Machine. Interesting. Maybe if your Machine takes too much damage?

6 Riders only in races. Kind of a different philosophy than Mario Kart World took. Maybe this game is being made to give players a more "traditional" kart game experience?

I do love that rainbow-colored water slide in the ocean stage.

Oooh, a cavern full of treasure! That's kind of a neat backdrop!

OH, they worked drafting behind other players into the game as a powerup mechanic. Interesting.

There is a slower mode, if the speed proves too much for you.

City Trial! Even Sakurai knows this is the main event! Set on the floating island Skyah! The dragon-volcano is pretty neat!

Oooh, crystal caves!

Up to 16 players can play City Trial together! That's quite a lot!

Kracko and Dyna Blade as bosses! Interesting.

Now they're thinking with portals!

You can choose your Stadium from a random group of four options. Well, that's nice.

Oh, he's teasing stuff that's inside the dragon-volcano's mouth and a floating crystal platform above Skyah. There's secrets around here!

You can get hints...that lie to you...but also hint that they're lying to you. Huh. That's...a weird mechanic.

Apparently, there's still enough information for another Direct that Sakurai is teasing. So, I'm guessing there's more modes and characters we still haven't seen yet.

Oooh...looks like Dark Matter is joining the race! We might be getting Smash Bros-style reveal trailers for the other racers!

The game releases November 20 2025! So, there isn't too long to wait.

Nintendo has started to release a series of "It's Me, Mario!" stop motion shorts!

Should these get it's own thread? I could almost see a argument for it. But, for now, here we go!

...I wouldn't mind a whole game in this style, honestly. And I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo might be thinking the same thing. We've gotten Kirby's Epic Yarn and Rainbow Curse, and Yoshi's Woolly and Crafted World. Why not Super Mario Clay Kingdom?

They could even sneak a very special alternate costume in the game...

Doesn't look clay to me, though. More like some sort of doll...

Stop motion doesn't always use clay, although I'm surprised to see something that doesn't mimic the texture at all.

From my vague memories of a behind the scenes on claymation that I saw as a wee tyke, even back in the day claymation figures generally had a mechanical armature under the clay that would get posed. In this case, the armature is covered with fabric instead of clay or another moldable dough.

More in reference to using this as the basis for a "Super Mario Clay Kingdom".

Look, "Clay Kingdom" just rolls off the tongue better than "Stop-Motion Sovereign State" or something.

"Mechanical Armature Motherland"?...no.

"Doll Dynasty", maybe? Okay, "Doll Dynasty" would actually kind of work.

"The Puppet Palace"? Okay, now we're getting somewhere.

Super Marionette Brothers? Although if they do that, I'd hope that they go hard on the puppetry theme rather than stopmotion.

Super Mario Stopped! seems like it might work, with the added bonus that it alludes to whatever stop motion gimmick will be present.

I went to Target today with one goal (besides groceries, but that's beside the point). I wanted to get a Switch 2 physical game so I could show my support against keycards. The obvious game to get would have been Cyberpunk 2077. But...well...I mean...I already have it 3 different ways. I have it physically for PS4, Digitally for PS5 and Digitally for Switch 2. Getting another version for it, especially for a system I already have a digiital version of it for...it just felt like there had to be a better use for my money.

So I tried this game.

IMG_3154.jpeg

Now standing there at Target, I had absolutely no idea what this game way. I mean, anime people with swords mounted on dragons...I was assuming some sort of RPG. But the deciding factor, aside from Cyberpunk (which I already own three different ways), Donkey Kong Bananza which I already owned digitally, Mario Kart which I got bundled with the system and a Mario Party game which I've never really gave a crap about Mario Party...this was the only game that wasn't a key card. So I went with it.

And I'll tell you something else...

IMG_3155.jpeg

In the year of our Lord 2025 I hereby profess that I am seeing with my own eyes a game that comes with an actual, physical instruction manual!

Now I will admit, it down have a day one patch. But I was able to play the game before downloading said patch. After the patch...characters speak in English. That's kinda cool.

So far it looks like a farming simulater. But my character does have a sword in her possession and it is rated 'T' for fantasy violence. So I'm sure there's going to have to be battle at some point. I'm eager to find out.

But just the very fact that the game is on the cart (not a key card) AND it comes with an actual instruction book...this is already rating very high with me.

Nintendo Direct!

We're celebrating Mario's 40th Anniversary! Sure wish some of that concept art could find it's way into..I dunno...some sort of "art book" or something. Crazy thought, I know.

The Super Mario theme park looks fun. I'll never go. I hate lines. But, it does look like it'd be fun to walk around when it's closed.

Oooh...looks like we're getting a look at the Super Mario Bros 2 movie! Maybe it's the Kirby fan in me, but I don't trust that butterfly. And it's...The Super Mario Bros...GALAXY MOVIE! Let's-a go, indeed! Oh, we're going galactic, already?! I was expecting this to be the "World" movie. I mean...what do you do for the third one, then? Smash Bros? This one comes out April 2026. Not too far away! Cool!

So, that means Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are coming for the original Switch! Cool! I mean...I think I would have preferred Galaxy 2 along with most of the handheld titles or maybe Super Paper Mario Wii, since we already got Galaxy 1 in the last Mario Anniversary Collection. Maybe they could have just re-released the first collection alongside a second one? But, I'm still probably going to pick this up. The physical version is out October 2! And hey, more Amiibo! Mario and Rosalina look pretty cool in their new sculps!

They have added new Rosalina's storybook pages. Interesting. I wonder what they're going to add? And they're selling a physical version of the book (minus the new pages). That's going to sell out immediately.

Mario Tennis Fever! They have a FEVER...and the only CURE...is TENNIS! Meh...I'm not usually one for the Mario sports games. Hopefully, this one is good for the fans, though. I'm not sure if all the new racket powers will turn out too gimmicky, or just gimmicky enough. I wasn't expecting a baby-focused story mode. That could be interesting.

Super Mario Wonder is getting a Switch 2 edition...Plus Meetup in Bellabel Park! Looks like it's mostly multiplayer focused. I'm not sure that's enough to get me to double-dip, personally. But, it does look like there's a few new singleplayer challenges with the Koopalings, too. So, we'll see. It's going out Spring 2026, so I'm sure we'll hear more about it later.

They're also making the Talking Flowers. Which...seems more annoying than anything else. Seems to have about as much functionality as a Furby. Well, it's a fun collectable, at least.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book! Oh, a new Yoshi game! Which...seems to focus more on "studying" the environment than anything else. Weird. I do like the art style. The gameplay looks...kind of like they designed this game for REALLY little kids. But, it does have a kind of "point and click adventure game" kind of style, with it's focus on exploration. It could be kind of charming.

Switch 1 games!

Storm Lancers has a cool anime artstyle. Not so sure about the gameplay. The levels look a little empty. But maybe it's worth keeping a eye on.

Dinkum! A very Australian Animal Crossing. Not for me, but it looks kind of charming.

Popucom! A cross between Splatoon and Puyo Puyo. Interesting idea. Multiplayer only means I'll probably be passing, though.

Tamogatchi Life Living the Dream! Didn't we already know about this? Again, not for me.

Switch 1 AND 2 games!

Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection! Not surprising, but glad to see it. That documentary looks familiar, though. I wonder if that's the same one they made for G4TV back in the day? From Icons or Game Makers?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade! I think we already knew about this, but glad to see it on Switch 2.

Lynked Banner of the Spark! Well, it could be fun. Not sure it really stands out. It might be trying to do too many things by throwing farming in there. But, maybe it's worth looking at reviews later.

Hades 2! That trailer...is AWESOME! Love that. Can we get a movie in this style? Given how good the first game was, this is definitely worth checking out. I think I like that song that's playing in the background of the gameplay, too.

Kirby Air Riders Amiibo! They're cute! Swapping Riders is a fun gimmick. And there's more coming! I guess we might get a "Dark Matter" one, yet! And we're getting ANOTHER Air Riders Direct soon! They're REALLY pushing this game as hard as they can!

Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment is out November 6! The game's looking pretty good!

They're remaking Dragon Quest 7...again! I'm a little surprised since we did "just" get a remake on the 3DS, not that long ago. It does look good, though. "Reimagined" makes me think they might be changing the story, though. Interesting. I want to hear more, like if this is actually a remake or a retelling.

Somehow...the Virtual Boy returned! What...no. They aren't seriously making us re-buy a physical Virtual Boy accessory?! This has to be a prank! Oh...it's just a case. There's nothing in there. But...we actually DO need it to play these games?! Why?! Who benefits? I mean...Nintendo, obviously. The messaging here is so confusing. Well, looks like it's coming for Switch 1 AND 2. So...I guess I'm ignoring this? The only one I'd want to play is Wario Land. Not sure it's even worth the price of the cardboard. There better be a option to turn everything black and white, otherwise it's not worth the literal headache it takes to play these games.

Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly Remake. I'm not that into horror games, but I know this series has it's fans. Not sure if this is one of the better ones or not, honestly. Frankly, the Virtual Boy reveal was scarier.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition! I suppose it'll have new characters? I'm a big fan of the franchise and I never picked up the vanilla version. So, maybe?

Mouse controls for Stardew Valley. That sounds like it'd be useful.

Metroid...on Motorbikes?! Okay...whoa. That's a LOT more open than I'm used to for a Metroid game. This...is going to be a big world. Even if it is mostly barren desert. Well, now I kind of wish this was more of a third-person shooter, rather than a first-person shooter. The mostly red armor is a new look for Samus. Metroid Prime 4...is a open world game. I mean...they usually are, to some extent, but...it's a MODERN open-world game. Huh. I didn't expect that. And it's out December 4! Oh, and we're getting a artbook. And more Amiibo. They're really pushing the Amiibo this Direct. That Biker Samus one is kind of tempting...but probably too expensive and rare for me.

Donkey Kong Bananza is getting DLC! DK Island and Emerald Rush. Neat! All your old friends and riding buddies are here! Spoilers, though, I guess the villain sticks around?

Pokemon Pokopia! Pokemon...crossed with...Animal Crossing?! You're building little homes and habitats to attract Pokemon to your island. Huh. The little Ditto girl is a little freaky, but in a good way. The shot with all the windmills and flowers is actually kind of pretty. Not sure it's for me, but it's a interesting new idea for Pokemon. Koei Tecmo is doing this, interesting. Gamefreak is letting more companies play around with Pokemon, lately.

Pokemon Legends Z-A! Now, we're talking! Oh...all the original Kalos Starters are getting Mega Evolutions! Oh...I guess that means we aren't getting unique trailers for these guys. That's kind of a shame, really. Well, I guess not EVERYONE can get a full 4 minute animation. Gotta save those for...Victreebel and Malamar, I guess? Warrior Chesnaught, Witchy Delphox, and Hovering Greninja. My immediate reaction is...I think I like Mega Chesnaught the best, but I want to see them all a little closer, first.

AND Mega Raichu...X and Y?! I...think I like Y a little more? But, they're both pretty similar to the regular version. Mega Dimension DLC is interesting, though. We're going into a alternate reality? Will we get to see Ultra Space, again?

Danganronpa 2x2. Huh. I might have just preferred a collection of the trilogy. But, this could be fun, too.

Dynasty Warriors Origins! With so many other "Warriors" games coming out, the "vanilla" version doesn't appeal to me as much. But, it's probably just as fun.

Monster Hunters 3 Twisted Reflection! The game's looking good! March 13!

Lightning Round!

Disgaea 7 Complete! That's a classic worth checking out. Only on Switch 2 is a little surprising.

Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D is still coming! I'm still thinking about it. 3 might be enough for me, personally.

Little Nightmares 3. Huh., I hear good things about the other 2.

Persona 3 Reload, also only on Switch 2. Another good JRPG.

Resident Evil Requiem! This is probably a pretty big deal! I don't know that much about the franchise, frankly. Not really for me, since again, I'm not that into horror.

One more thing!

Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave! We're doing a kind of Roman Colosseum Tournament type thing this time. Neat! These games are always pretty solid, so this is one to remember. I like the music! More of a Spanish flair than I would have expected.

Well, that was a LONG Direct! A fair amount of stuff, even though not all of it appealed to me.

Still, quite a few things look interesting. The Switch 2 is slowly getting more games, which is good to see. The highlights for me were: Hades 2, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, and of course Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Well, I definitely didn't have the return of the Virtual boy on my 2025 bingo card. Wonder how much it's going to be?

Excited for SMG 1/2 and Dragon Quest 7. One step closer to 8 - hooray!
