It's Trump. He's a pathological liar who does everything in his power to sound more impressive than he actually is. There's not really anything more to it than that.
Not his first time name dropping an uncle who was a professor at MIT. That is definitely band camp impressive. But the Unabomber part?

Unabomber was famous, he likes to be associated with famous people, even if they did horrible things. Only reason he distanced himself from Epstein is because he realized it was hurting his grift.

Estimates are that the mandate, the SAVE Act, or both, would disenfranchise at least 21 million voters nationwide. Most of them would be women, whose names on their initial voter registrations are different from the name they now use.
This has, of course, been known for some time. I wonder if MAGA realizes that the women most likely to be unaffected by this will be liberals, who are more likely to retain their last names after marriage. ;)

Probably not by a wide margin, though. Maybe not even enough to cancel out the number of openly-trans people in the US. A bigger gap would probably come from how many more liberal women just don't bother to get married at all.

This memo, which Pete Hegseth and friends didn’t intend you and I would ever be able to read:

  • Urges DHS to persuade top military brass to view immigration enforcement as a “homeland defense mission.”
  • Seeks to embed armed, kill-trained military personnel inside ICE and CBP to “increase information sharing” and support “nationwide operational planning.”
  • Frames transnational gangs and cartels as equivalent to al-Qaeda, a dangerous, dishonest leap that pretends to justify extreme, deadly force.
  • And it admits, in its own words, that due to the “sensitive nature” of the meeting it documents, “minimal written policy or background” should be preserved.
Translation: They know what they’re doing is legally and morally criminal. So they’re minimizing the paper trail.

And because they know their supporters are too stupid to know a tariff is a tax. And possibly they don't actually care what the rest of us do or don't know.

Sanctuary districts, here we come and only like a year later than Star Trek predicted.... Worst part is violent crime has gone down SIGNIFICANTLY since it spiked during the pandemic, so the very thing Trump is using to justify his strong arm tactics isn't even true(not that that is surprising from 'Mr They're Eating the Dogs and Cats').

Well... that didn't take long.

And for reference this poster is one of the people that was let go during the Voice of America job culling.

Great, so Washington DC is going to be 1970s Belfast on steroids. It’s going to take America decades to come back from all of this.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

It'll be generations before the world trusts the US again.

But let's be frank here: it's been 50 years or more since the changes to where the only thing the US was good for was money. Nothing has really changed other than your being broke.

Morally, ethically, economically... but broke.

I don't think the US deserves to recover, ever. I think it should collapse like Rome, and serve as a cautionary tale to the rest of the world. Because the way things are going, it's probably the only thing that'll save them from the same fate.

Your country put itself in this position, if you can pull yourself out: you deserve that as much as you deserve the fall.

hug sake: you can change. You can improve. That was never in question. The question is "will you, and will you do it in enough time to save yourselves".

The US was garbage to start with. Founded by religious fanatics and slave owners, built on slavery and genocide, sustained by exploiting other poorer countries. The only thing we've ever done to make the rest of the world a better place was remove ourselves from it.

There were good things about America, the bulk of the bill of rights for instance, but yea, our history is full of injustices. Deleting America isn't really the answer, though. I'd much rather have meaningful reforms, though I'm not sure how we'd get there from here at the moment.
