$15 a month for a story I wasn't enjoying and a game that had gotten mind numbingly tedious (Level scaling helped, but they should have gone all the way with it). Plus my gaming preferences have wildly shifted over the past few years. Total War, Crusader Kings, Rimworld are more my jam now...just getting old I suppose.
But Blizzard's behavior was a big factor of it. "What? You people don't have phones?" was more the straw that broke the camel's back in that regard. "If you want blonde haired elves, the Horde is there waiting for you." My disillusionment with WoW had more to do with constant narrative shifts and alterations then anything. ("High Elves don't have enough population to justify being an Allied Race." says the company that featured a full Army of them in the previous expansion, then proceeds to add shiploads of them and make them the Alliance Battlefront Portal Masters. If they're a dying people, STOP USING THEM Blizzard!)
That and the realization that the reason WarCraft II will never be remastered for modern systems is because the game is no longer canon to the story Blizzard wants WoW to be about. (Hard to insist Lothar was killed in honorable combat with Doomhammer when the Alliance straight up has a mission that starts with you watching Lothar being ambushed and assassinated while responding to a Horde's offer to parlay)
