@  Nevermore : (18 October 2019 - 01:20 AM)

Oh, the turnover rates are high here as well.

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Amazon.com and .ca, on the other hand, can be pretty terrible. I know from your squawkbox posts that you guys have your issues with Amazon over there, although you're lucky to have stronger government regulations and a union there. I gather the warehouse workers in the USA and Canada have it pretty crappy, with very high turnover, close to minimum wage pay, and no unions

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 09:38 PM)

Amazon.de doesn't really have the same issue. I've ordered from them (and UK, FR, IT and JP) several times, and their packaging is much better

@  Nevermore : (17 October 2019 - 05:22 PM)

I'm not sure how it works on the customer's end. As packers, we sometimes have items that are flagged as "overwrap", which means we absolutely have to put them into a box even if they're already in pretty sturdy manufacturer packaging.

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 03:05 PM)

Yeah, I really do wish amazon had an option to upgrade packaging for an extra buck or something. I hate their bubble mailers

@  Benbot : (17 October 2019 - 07:17 AM)

That's how it works. I just hope my order from Amazon doesn't arrive crushed because they idiotically stuffed it in an envelope.

@  Telly : (16 October 2019 - 10:48 PM)

my walmart is acting true to form. as soon as mirage arrives from amazon, my walmart gets his entire wave in after months of having wave 1 clogging the pegs....

@  Nevermore : (16 October 2019 - 05:18 PM)

I stirred up some trouble at work, complained about the blatant neglect of employee safety. Was asked to take photos and write down the locations so the matter could be properly escalated. Made me feel a little better.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2019 - 10:06 PM)

Together with the Rhino G1 sets, probably the most expensive DVDs I ever bought

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2019 - 10:01 PM)

I've still got the age-old Rhino sets

@  Telly : (14 October 2019 - 09:09 PM)

i didnt find that at any of the ones around here, so i had to settle for seasons 1 and 2 of duckman for $3

@  Steevy Maximus : (14 October 2019 - 07:45 PM)

Heck, I got the season 2/3 set for $3 (?) from a Dollar General discount bin :p

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2019 - 07:29 PM)

The series is pretty cheap on DVD, too, which at least will work internet or no. The complete series set seems to be OOP, but there's a Season 1 set as well as a combined 2 & 3 set.

@  wonko the sane? : (14 October 2019 - 06:10 PM)

And if they had been unfriendly: he would have simply slaughtered them with diseases they couldn't fight, and technology they couldn't match until they as a people did not exist. There's something about european backgrounds that drive us to exploit.

He described the peoples he encountered as some of the most friendly and giving in the world, so naturally, he ate all their food, enslaved them and put them to work looking for gold that did not exist, until they as a people did not exist.

Wouldn't it imply that there was a living bigfoot at some point though?

Turns out, the guy's not sure if it was a ghost or flesh and blood. It was able to interact with the environment though.

Yeah but they probably died so long ago that all physical traces have decayed away.

Great, and here I was hoping to have just one month where I don't have to face down the embodiment of entropy and terror.

Sup?

Not much. Have to go out tomorrow to run a few errands. Don't feel like going to a toystore though, since there's nothing I want until about July or August-ish.

Also, I apparently passed the second year of medical school. Don't like the uniforms for third year onwards though.

Well you're probably a lich so I'm only wrong about the "decayed away" part.

Using my ungodly necromancy to bring this thing back.

Watching one of those "true ghost story" shows. It's pretty entertaining that you can pinpoint when they realized what kind of stories draw ratings and the stories start escalating to the point that it's not even convincing any more.

I love those kinds of stories, though, in a twisted way.

You get people insisting that what they saw wasn't actually an owl, even though they just sat there in a group and agreed to descriptions of a large flying thing with claws and a broad wingspan, large round eyes in a large round head with a large body and horn like protrusions.  Even though a sculptor crafted a model based on their descriptions and then is set next to a picture of a great horned owl diving at the camera with it's wings spread and it's claws outstretched and even though what they described and the picture of the owl are virtually identical... they still sit there and proclaim "I know what I saw, and it wasn't an owl!"

It was a program on the Jersey Devil I saw some years ago while staying in a hotel.

It was hilarious, because as the show went on, most of the things people described could only really be some large bird and they even played footage of a Great Horned Owl charging a the camera which seemed to sum it up pretty well.  Then all the witnesses got together, described what they saw and a sculptor created a statue of what they described... which looked like what a Great Horned Owl would look like if you saw one unexpectedly lunging at you in the night.

Yet there they were, absolutely denying that what they saw could possibly be an owl.

It was a fascinating story, more for what it said about the nature of the human mind and how easily it is delude oneself in the face of evidence than for the Jersey Devil aspect.

The Jersey Devil is the most hugged up thing as far as  paranormal stuff goes. Even the folklore can't agree on what it is.

I like one-off entities, they seem much more mysterious.

That one's more likely to be an owl even more than the Jersey Devil, though, I don't think there are any large species of owl native to the place.

So basically, diseased dogs and people who take movies too seriously.

Had ramen and karaage for lunch today. I really like how they ut beansprouts in with the noodles. Gives it that extra crunch without overpowering the noodle's taste or texture.

Those annoy me. Mostly because the sprouts and the beans have different texture from each other. Yet I'm not bothered by texture variances when it's between different vegetables.

I don't mind them so much in ramen since the difference between the bean and the stalk are less noticeable when they're with noodles.

I could go for some more of that Midori Oh.

It's one of Ramenagi's 4 "normal" ramen choices. There's Buta Oh, which is basically pork broth ramen flavored with salt, Akai Oh which is similar but flavored with spicy miso and chili, Midori Oh, which has Parmesan cheese and basil in the soup and Kuro Oh, which is garlicky squid ink ramen. There's usually a fifth ramen but it's different every month and is limited to a set number of orders per day. Last month's was curry. I didn't ask about this month's but it looks to involve prawn somehow.
