Longclaw is based on a character in the same role from the earliest Western lore. Including the book Stay Sonic.
Can you link the info? Longclaw was just totally weird for me. Was she real or something like the planning stages where Vector was one of the earliest Sonic characters because he was designed when the Sonic was in a rock band and all that?
I figured Feist the cosmic panda thing would have been a mentor figure but he's with the Chaos Emeralds and can't be used cuz he's Archie created.
But then why not just go with Uncle Chuck? Or can't use characters from the SatAM lore?
I don't know about "can't," but given that none of the SatAM characters have shown up in IDW, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sega is hesitant to allow the use of any previous-license-originated characters at all. On top of that, Sega apparently also doesn't want licensees coming up with relatives for Sega-owned characters anymore (even post-reboot Uncle Chuck was just an honorary uncle), so it could be that Paramount just wanted it to be immediately obvious that the person raising Sonic wasn't one of his real parents.
