The series is pretty cheap on DVD, too, which at least will work internet or no. The complete series set seems to be OOP, but there's a Season 1 set as well as a combined 2 & 3 set.

Wow, being right on the internet *IS NOT* satisfying... who would have thought.  At least we know anything other than an apology or strong counter argument counts as trolling, don't we?

Okay.

This has seriously devolved into parody.

A serious chunk of the episodes Saberback posted did not feature "mysterious Cybertronian artifacts" as he so claims.

I don't remember all the episodes by heart, mind you, but alarm bells went off nonetheless.

So here's a small selection of episodes that Saberback outright lies about:
Con Job: No mysterious cybertronian artifact. Just Wheeljack and Makeshift.

Speed Metal: This one is about Knock Out and Bumblebee getting caught up in the street racing scene.

Out of His Head: No mysterious cybertronian artifact, just an Energon deposit the Decepticons want to melt ice to get to.

Crisscross: Airachnid and MECH team up to trap Arcee and Jack. Jack's mom finds out about the Autobots. That is seriously it.

Rock Bottom: Everyone gets trapped in a largely-stripped Energon mine.

Stronger, Faster: Ratchet creates artificial Energon.

None of these episodes involve ancient cybertronian artifacts, unless I missed a detail somewhere.

Create live action TV shows

(...)

Along those lines, a live action Transformers or G.I. Joe television show would go a long way in boosting toy revenue in between movie years. While well written animated series such as Transformers Prime are great, they generally are viewed by children limiting the scope of popularity.  It's difficult to write an intelligent series geared toward that audience. A live action Transformers television series would probably be expensive ; however, the studios could produce short seasons in a Game of Thrones fashion. G.I. Joe would certainly prove feasible for Hasbro's studio partners.

How the hell will that not cost a buttload, even in mini-series format? How would a live-action show with few episodes sell more toys than an animated show with "full"-length seasons?

Bring back Gen 1 Transformers
Walt Disney and Hasbro appeal to the nostalgic collector by releasing toy lines such as the Star Wars: The Black Series a nd reissuing old Star Wars toys.

Uh, Generations and Masterpiece (admittedly, the latter might be suffering setbacks related to vehicle licensing or something)

Moreover, Hasbro occasionally releases a Transformers Generation 1 reissue geared toward people who enjoyed Transformer's original line in their childhood.

Isn't that more Takara's thing? Didn't Hasbro's Commemorative line get kinda screwed over somehow? (I recall hearing something along the lines of too many of them eventually hitting clearance)

late edit: okay, I'm not sure why this part about reissues is even here. The article doesn't appear to suggest bringing back the Commemorative Series.

I like how Saberback plays with semantics to paint the show he doesn't like with a broad brush.

It's cute.

Saberback's posts make me miss the dislike button.

I think they could make money with something from above set back in the 1800's and everyone is a train*

I don't know who Brian Kilby is, sorry.

But seriously. I'm not a huge TFP fan. Plenty of episodes I still haven't watched. And I could still poke a lot of holes in Saberback's arguments.

So if I, dude who's so-so about Prime, can figure out that he's lying about this stuff... how was he expecting his arguments to hold up with the dudes that totes watched all the episodes and probably have the DVDs and stuff?

I feel like Transformers comics adequately scratch the older G1 fan itch, in conjunction with Generations. A cartoon would be largely needless unless you can make something that appeals to kids too. That's what the cartoons exist for, to drive new, young fans into the franchise. The older fans are already buying the merchandise, and will regardless. It's really kind of unthinkable what sort of financial benefit Hasbro would see from a G1 continuation that it isn't already tapping into.

In my mind, a better strategy would be to further leverage the already fantastic material being produced in the comics. You've got a few classic storylines that would translate rather well into HUB animated specials and/or direct-to-video cartoons. Who wouldn't want to see an adaptation of Last Stand of the Wreckers?

Direct-to-video IDW/Marvel-based animated movies would at least be less stupidly expensive than a live-action TF show.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

What so you expect from a show that is not for kids? We adults have discriminating taste in our recycled plots.

And yet another person arguing that kids tv doesn't have to be interesting, stimulating, or educational.  Because... you know... good parents would much rather they watch garbage than quality programming.

To people who were pleased with Transformers Prime... I'm sorry.  Just because there is precedent for humans understanding a beeping robot and an apparent financial gap such that the writers can't afford voice actors doesn't excuse poor writing where 90% of the episodes had the exact same plot - a "mini-con of the week" plot to paraphrase this article's writer's critique of Agents of SHEILD.  A prettier Armada with worse writing is bad.

Luckily all those G1 episodes didn't have the same basic plot - say like Megatron finding a new source of immense power, in the form of a ruby crystal, a hydro-electric dam, etc.

Lucky that.

Wow, being right on the internet *IS NOT* satisfying... who would have thought.  At least we know anything other than an apology or strong counter argument counts as trolling, don't we?

A) I too can take a list of episodes and list whatever I want next to it to make whatever point I'd like to make, with the hope of nobody actually noticing I'd pulled my answers from a turducken. For G1 characters introduced count as the plot, yet for Prime they don't? Somebody help me, I'm seeing four standards...no wait...there we go...back to just the double.

B) This thread = Some mysterious artifact inexplicably lands in Allspark TF discussion, causes confusion, laughter, bouts of sighing and injuries from self-applied force of palm to head. Artifact deemed fairly worthless after cursory study. Is now stored in bin with Mint collection of signed Milli Vanilli albums.

It's also more true because it's in bold, and that's not just something everyone has access to.

C) No. (which is in Italics AND Comic Sans AND a larger font. That's 3 extra buttons to your 1. That means my point is tripler correct, even accounting for the use of Comic Sans. And that is SCIENCE, my friend.

D) G1 cartoon - for most characters, 'characterisation' is 'I can do this (glass fun, jetpack, grappling hook, speakers), which will be needed just once, PS please buy me'. At least for Prime, there's depth to characterisation for far more of those characters.

E) What the heck is with 'The Wire'? Every episode is exactly the same, cops and criminals. Airwolf was so objectively better.

F) I'm so confident in my arguments here I'm adding a picture of a hat that says 'I Love Bread'. Why? Because it's still a better argument than anything you've put forward in your absurdist description of the episodes of both shows.

I seem to recall us having a thread a few months back about the feasibility of a live-action Transformers series.

IIRC, the general consensus was that a Masterforce-type series could potentially be feasible.

The characters would remain in "disguise" for most of the episode, with the Autobots being in human form and the Decepticons being in monster form (re: costume). Characters would "transform" back into robot or vehicle mode as needed for the plot, providing enough in the way of actual screen time for the toys to get sold while minimizing the cost of any special effects or computer graphics needed. (Unless, of course, the plan called for having costumed actors representing the characters in robot mode rather than having them be CGI.)

The only issue would be making the cast large enough to sell a profitable number of figures but small enough that things won't get too expensive or complicated.
