@  -LittleAutob... : (30 June 2020 - 05:55 PM)

x-x when in vehicle mode we can travel much F A R T H E R-

@  wonko the sane? : (30 June 2020 - 05:52 PM)

Because despite the fact that we can travel around the world in the time it takes to get a good nights sleep and a couple of meals: people rarely wander more than 25 miles away from home for the duration of their lives.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 05:49 PM)

I don't know how many days that trip takes - especially while sightseeing - but explaining they're 3936 kilometers (2445 miles) apart gives an idea, paradoxically because it is too large to easily picture.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 05:44 PM)

Aye.  When I catch lay people discussing miles and not how long the trip takes, it is in an attempt to stress how far away something is... like NYC to LA.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:20 PM)

But I can imagine 45 *minutes* easily.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:20 PM)

I can imagine a mile, it's a distance I've run. I can't really imagine 45 miles.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:19 PM)

I think there's also an element of the thing where things that are much bigger than us all blur together.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:49 AM)

If you're not, then you're more concerned with how long it takes.  Actual distance doesn't tell you that very well.  Besides traffic and road conditions, you'll need to know what kind of driving (city/interstate/rural/etc.).

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:47 AM)

Distance matters if you're being paid by the mile.

@  TM2-Megatron : (30 June 2020 - 11:44 AM)

Canadians are the same way, for the most part. If you're driving somewhere far, especially, it helps you plan out the day more than a distance in KM would.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:42 AM)

We use the time it takes to get someplace because that is what is relevant to us.

@  TheMightyMol... : (30 June 2020 - 10:55 AM)

Because even we can't figure out miles half the time.

@  Paladin : (30 June 2020 - 09:54 AM)

it's a big country with a lot of empty space. between our citizens' ears.

@  Bass X0 : (30 June 2020 - 09:52 AM)

Why do most Americans measure distance by hours of driving?

@  TM2-Megatron : (29 June 2020 - 07:26 PM)

And as a result the world's lone blu-ray release of the film, an Australian disc that came out 7 years ago, now goes for hundreds of dollars on eBay. Thanks Disney.

@  TM2-Megatron : (29 June 2020 - 06:21 PM)

Well, they censored Daryl Hannah's butt in Splash :rolleyes

@  Paladin : (29 June 2020 - 05:43 PM)

maybe New Mutants is too bad even for D+.

@  Steevy Maximus : (29 June 2020 - 05:00 PM)

X-Men films are coming to Disney+ next month. But will they censor Hugh Jackman's butt?

@  -LittleAutob... : (29 June 2020 - 12:44 PM)

Pft.

Behold! Night Strike Galvatron!

@  Bass X0 : (29 June 2020 - 09:53 AM)

I will grant you a recolored body, and recolored troops to command.

@  Cybersnark : (29 June 2020 - 09:47 AM)

I don't want to be reissued. This body sucks, I wanna be updated.

@  Nevermore : (29 June 2020 - 09:43 AM)

I definitely don't intend to be reissued. Nobody would buy me.

2 Timothy 3:16,17 - "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work."

2 Timothy 1:9,10 - "God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."

Acts 17:30,31 - "The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead."

John 3:16,17 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."

here is a few pictures of my cat... Mayday, Aka Maynard, Aka the Mooch

My mother found him the weekend before I started my job at goodwill, he was just a newborn and her dogs where fighting over him. My grandparents and I took him in, Bottle-feeting him. We're surpised considering how small he was and how large he has become.

He isn't what you'd call a social cat... he'll only let you pet him for a little bit before he bites at you, and he hates being held. He's terrified of Dogs and especially of babies. Durring thunderstorms he will dissapear into the basement for hours only to pop back up again when its over. He doesn't even purr except when he's nuzzling alongside you when he thinks your asleep (and the one time he tried to smother me, but I digress).

He is also a mooch. He'll actually beg for scraps when I'm making my sammiches for work. One goofy idiosyncricy is he'll drink water out of the bathtub faucet. He's also got several 'favorite spots' around the house, the primary being a laundry bastket (you can see him laying in it), a position on the couch right in front of the door, and he loves to nuzzle into my grandfathers homemade fleace vikings blanket as well as my...errm.... spongebob blanket. (my mother got crazy making blankets and for some reason chose spongebob. Yeesh, watch one episode and she brands you for life).

This is Mommacat, Tifo was a kitten that another cat from here had and then abandoned, we had her fixed before she could get pregnant.

Yea, you're confusing her with Tifa which is the mother of the other Tiger, Rocky and Caiman, she's a big bigger than Tifo but almost identical in every regard.

So we're adopting a new family member tomorrow. My girlfriend has been pestering me for over a year now to get a pet. Well, we're moving in a couple of weeks and I've been spending a lot of time on the road lately. Last trip I made included a flight on Southwest Airlines. They have their own magazine which they like for the passengers to take with them. One of the articles in it was for a website that's full to the gills with disgustingly cute animals. One of the ones on the site is a little hedgehog, which she's always wanted. While at dinner, I decide to take her over to PetSmart so she can look at the birds and small fuzzies.

She got distracted at one point by the cat adoption area and one in particular. It was a white kitten, only a couple of months old. He has these slightly different shaded patches over each eye that extend back to his ears. She fell in love with the little guy and I told her she could have him after we moved in two weeks. The seeds were planted for a nice surprise for when I come home tomorrow with the kitten under my arm.

Well, on our way home she was just distraught that the little fella wouldn't be around then. She wanted to pick him up and take him home tonight. I told her that we would turn around and go back in and let them know that we were coming back to adopt him after our move. I knew, however, that there was no way we were leaving the store again without him. So I did what any man would do in the face of such a dilemma...

I caved.

So tomorrow, we go back and talk to the adoption person at the store and bring home our new roomy. He already has a name even. It's Van Gogh. The name is fitting for a couple of reasons. First, her sister has a cat named Rembrandt. And secondly, the kitten's profoundly deaf (deaf cat, Van Gogh's ear... you get the idea).

Pics to come as they're made available.

Ok, change of plans. we ended up with *2* cats because my girlfriend thought the lady was being a b**** and she felt sorry for another one there. Soooo, here they are.

And introducing, Emma (who would only cooperate for one picture). Emma was previously owned by an elderly lady that went to a nursing home. The lady at PetSmart apparently only wirks during the day and didn't really want return to the store, even though there were two people there to adopt animals. The other family had a little girl who ended up crying because she was unable to get her kitty, which finally seemed to motivate the lady enough to make the arduous 15 minute trip to the store...
IPB Image

Don't mind the mess, we're still packing/cleaning for the move.
