Blugh, the english dub of BGC is atrocious.

I might need to update my software, or they face regional limitations, cause I found no evidence of either.

DUDE! Starcom and COPS are on Tubi too!

Spiffy! The english dub of Bubblegum Crisis on Tubi. It's gotten so hard to find these oldies on modern streaming services.

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:34 PM)

Or do Japan's cultural values vary depending on exactly who you're trying to shut down?

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:33 PM)

Could it be that, perhaps, these different cultural values might lead to a different approach seeming appropriate?

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:32 PM)

Hm. Back when we were arguing about the Legends comic, I seem to recall being repeatedly told that Japan had different cultural values than the US (and therefore anyone who had a problem with anything at all was wrong to voice that opinion ever).

@  fourteenwings : (19 February 2020 - 07:23 AM)

Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, every single anime character is built to suit the audience's tastes so they buy more merch/do other things that allow $$$ to flow in the production committees direction, so the authenticity is certainly not for representation's sake.

@  fourteenwings : (19 February 2020 - 07:18 AM)

Both those anime air at midnight and are aimed at a very specific audience in a whole other media landscape. Major projects have press releases about almost everything, and there are groups just waiting to pat anybody on the back for doing what they want (GLAAD, HRC, etc)

@  B-Fox : (19 February 2020 - 03:16 AM)

It's funny that a friggin' anime about zombie idols and an anime about a school of anthropomorphic animals can have really positive trans characters WITHOUT a press release about their inclusion in the series prior to the episodes airing or having the creators announcing it on social media and patting themselves on the back for doing a thing.

There's also a Stormtrooper playset (which I bought) and the Star Destroyer playset (which I want!)

I've ended up buying all the new movie first wave of micro packs (as well as the Rebels one) and the new movie mega pack.

Overall I'm impressed with the ships - 5 bucks for 3 ships is very fair, and about the same price they were 20 odd years ago, and the 10$ mega packs are also a good deal. The set I bought however is pretty disappointing. Only one figure to populate it and no real action features like the old sets had. It does however have lots of pegs for the vehicles which makes up for the lack of stands in the base packs.

Overall I'm super happy with the return of micro machines and can only hope Action Fleet comes too!

I've also been experimenting with giving the ships a wash to bring out the details with limited success. I'll post pics when I have real internet again.

I'm just hoping that the line does well enough for Hasbro to consider a larger roll-out.

Even if it's another round of G. I. Joe-themed military product, something is better than nothing.

Spotted the playsets at Target today.

I can see the $30 for the Star Destroyer and Millennium Falcon.

I can't see $20 for the transforming heads. I only recall their being $10 - $15 back in the day, and so it's kinda surprising to see them go so high when the rest of the line is in keeping with what the prices used to be so many years ago.

It might be a bit late for some people, but I spotted two coupons on Target's website:

$10 off any Star Wars purchase of $50 (excluding Lego products)

$25 off any Star Wars purchase of $100 (excluding Lego products)

I'm guessing that this would work on the Micro Machines.

To date, I've picked up three blind bags. I got Poe's X-Wing w/ closed foils (the nose is bent because of the tray it was in), a TIE Fighter, and Luke's skimmer.

I picked up the first two on Friday, and the skimmer today. Mom picked up the Star Wars miniatures game starter set for one of my brothers as a Christmas gift (it's something he can play with his oldest kid), and we went from there. I'll be getting the Millennium Falcon play set for my birthday, said brother's kids will be getting packs of Star Wars pencils as part of their stocking stuffers, and we've got a large stockpile of Star Wars cereal and Spaghetti-Os for when the kids come up next. The skimmer was just enough to put us over the $100 mark.

This is what I've got.  I used to have more - a lot more, but I've had to reduce, and now re-expand.  Good times.

How are the new and old ones compared to one another? I still can't find my old ones, but the new ones feel a bit inferrior.

This could just be because I'm 15 years older.

Edit: I'll be dipped. Looks like aside from paint, they're way better:

Details might be a bit soft (probably because of the plastic) and the details are maybe not as fine, but they aren't abdominally worse than the old ones (I had a bunch of the Star Trek ones) as some are claiming.  The blind bags and carded offerings are GREAT value for the money, the Falcon and Star Destroyer...aren't bad, but the head sets are light on the value.  I'd argue that you could hack $5 on all the box sets and make them far more compelling a value.  That, or actually include all the stuff seen on the packaging.

(Sees comparison shots)

After seeing the images of the old ones...maybe I'm remembering the old ones a bit too good?  Or maybe the Star Trek stuff came out better with the lesser detail?

Also, I'm tickled at my blind bag hauls-

I've bought 3, each featured a different vehicle, and NONE are available in any of the carded packs (as of yet): Naboo Starfighter, Dewback, Landspeeder.

Not a bad average :p

I have to resist the blind-bags.  I'll end up in rehab with gambling addicts.

Did get a set though, and apart from lack of paint, and some bendiness, they're good!  I had to work up some stands on the printer though.

Yeah.

The carded vehicle packs feature minimal packaging compared to how things used to be, and so I guess that's helping Hasbro keep the prices down to around what they used to be.

I'm OK with the Falcon and Star Destroyer sets, but the transforming heads are IMHO far too overpriced; I'd need a good coupon deal or a good sale to consider them.

If any of your stores have vending machines, check them out.

About two or three years ago (if not more), I started seeing cheap Micro Machines-scale cars appearing in various capsule vending machines. Each car consists of two solid pieces of plastic: a black piece of plastic representing the wheels, undercarriage, and windows, and a piece of colored plastic representing the body. Most places I saw had them going for $0.25 each.

The local H-E-B Plus grocery store has them back in their vending machines, albeit they want $0.50 apiece now.

If nothing else, they might he relatively cheap filler for your parking garages or junkyards.

Perusing Entertainment Earth's listings, saw a listing for carded 3 packs wave 2:

http://www.entertain...0B#.VgxkuijJSu4

Heavy on the repacks, but does feature 3 new sets-

Space Escape (ESB- Millennium Falcon, SSD Executor, and TIE Bomber)

Clone Fighter Strike (E3- ObiWan Jedi Starfighter, Arc-170, Droid TriFighter)

X-Wing Dogfight (E7- FO TIE, Resistance X-Wing, Poe X-Wing (Battle damaged?)

Off the top of my head, the TriFighter, SSD and TIE Bomber aren't slated for release in any other venue as of now.

Did you see that they've got Wave 3 up as well?

The top four sets are actually two sets with variations, either a Resistance X-Wing or Poe's X-Wing. Otherwise, it's all re-hashes.

With the info still "TBD", I wasn't sure if it was a sure thing that the assortment would have those variants.  I also don't view a couple swapped colors to be a compelling new release anyway :p

At least wave 2 is giving us some new ships.

I just got back from Kohl's.

The vehicle 3-packs?

The ones that have a $5 MSRP?

Kohl's wants $9.

When I was up there, they had them on "sale" for $8.09.
