@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 03:37 AM)

yeah...this could just end up as a way for them to sell our grandkids Crystal Pepsi Max

@  TM2-Megatron : (26 April 2017 - 03:35 AM)

Well, maybe this facebook mind reading thing I've been hearing about is the first step to that.... though I have to admit I'd prefer if it weren't such an advertising and data-collection obsessed company working on it

@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 03:25 AM)

i'm legitimately hoping for the day when that happens, my snark aside, TM2-Megatron. Imagine what could be accomplished if future generations had first hand knowledge of the thoughts and contexts of the events that shaped their ancestors', and their own, world?

@  TM2-Megatron : (26 April 2017 - 03:24 AM)

Even if it's just a way to download knowledge and memories without consciousness from a brain, I think that would go a long way towards easing people's minds.

@  TM2-Megatron : (26 April 2017 - 03:22 AM)

I dunno; like life itself I think the things that define it are open to change. It's not like I have grand expectations of immortality, constantly downloading my consciousness into freshly-grown genetically-enhanced clones of myself. But I think it's a waste for so much accumulated experience and memories to just wink out.

@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 03:21 AM)

or something

@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 03:21 AM)

all semblence of order our purpose are symtoms of the sickness in man's ego mad mind. sense is not possible until the end.

@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 03:19 AM)

existence is a vulgar absurdity

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 03:18 AM)

Eh, death is part of what defines life. Sooner we accept that it's just a thing that happens, the better.

@  Pennpenn : (26 April 2017 - 03:13 AM)

Probably be easier to develop that kind of thing if a significant portion of the population didn't think it was going to happen anyway for no adequately explainable reason.

@  TM2-Megatron : (26 April 2017 - 02:42 AM)

Death doesn't terrify me, but I have to admit I find the notion of its inevitably more than a little disappointing. I'd hope there's eventually some way to preserve our minds in some form prior to death

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 01:55 AM)

Or maybe some broken kid in a giant cyborg will turn us all into tang. Who knows what the future brings?

@  Waspinator : (26 April 2017 - 01:52 AM)

As someone terrified of death, I for one welcome our transhumanist singularity overlords.

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 01:52 AM)

Our grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren will be less than dust before heat death matters anyway.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 01:51 AM)

Signularity is a meaningless buzzword, like a lot of this transhumanist late-game stuff.

@  Evac : (26 April 2017 - 01:43 AM)

Or we could go "extinct" in a Singularity, becoming one with our technology to the extent we cease to exist in our current state.

@  Waspinator : (26 April 2017 - 01:37 AM)

Or we'll be killed by Skynet and unleash a plague of von Neumann probes upon the universe.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 01:37 AM)

Assuming all humans leave Earth, of course. Plenty won't, or won't be able to.

@  Evac : (26 April 2017 - 01:35 AM)

Technically it could be subspecies of Homo sapiens... But after a couple thousand years away from Earth, it's kind of inevitable humanity will evolve to adapt to strange new habitats.

@  Evac : (26 April 2017 - 01:33 AM)

We'd have to adapt to different conditions, especially when we're unable to return to Earth.

@  Evac : (26 April 2017 - 01:32 AM)

I can't really see humanity in its current state if/after we "go cosmic," though. You'll have different people adapting to living in zero-G environments, on colonies on other planets that have various conditions...

@  Evac : (26 April 2017 - 01:29 AM)

True.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 01:29 AM)

Evolution doesn't mean extinction of a previous state always, tho.

@  Evac : (26 April 2017 - 01:27 AM)

Well, humans as we know them (Homo sapiens) will probably go extinct at some point as the species evolves further. That's only if we somehow don't destroy ourselves.

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 12:26 AM)

Oh, humanity will go hypercritical and wipe itself out long before that's a concern.

@  Waspinator : (25 April 2017 - 11:04 PM)

All we need to do is built Diebuster to haul us away from the sun

@  Evac : (25 April 2017 - 10:36 PM)

Okay, well all of us will be dead. Jury's out on our descendants.

@  Evac : (25 April 2017 - 10:36 PM)

But we'll either be dead or be forced off the planet well before that point, since Earth will turn into a Venus-style hellhole in about a billion years.

@  Evac : (25 April 2017 - 10:29 PM)

[/science nerd]

@  Evac : (25 April 2017 - 10:29 PM)

About five billion years, actually.

@  Waspinator : (25 April 2017 - 09:38 PM)

Go check that episode of Doctor Who to see what date they said.

@  wonko the sane? : (25 April 2017 - 09:26 PM)

We got a date for that yet? I want to clear my schedule to watch it.

@  Waspinator : (25 April 2017 - 08:46 PM)

There are some more immediate doomsday scenarios on a more local level, like the sun expanding and consuming us all.

@  Evac : (25 April 2017 - 08:25 PM)

In a few trillion years, there's going to be a Big Rip, a heat death, a Big Crunch or a Big Bounce, so- wait, you're talking about Stargate.

@  Xellos : (25 April 2017 - 08:20 PM)

I just wish Universe had a conclusive ending...

@  wonko the sane? : (25 April 2017 - 07:53 PM)

They had to try something new, and it didn't work.

@  Echowarrior : (25 April 2017 - 07:31 PM)

SG-1 was a good series. Atlantis too. Universe...dear god was that ever a misfire.

@  Xellos : (25 April 2017 - 02:56 PM)

Started watching SG-1 right before season 9. The Stargate were the last live action series that could hold my attention week to week.

@  Rycochet : (25 April 2017 - 02:52 PM)

Sg1 really lost it's appeal once they got too far into the ancients/ascended plotlines.

@  Gizmoboy : (25 April 2017 - 02:48 PM)

I enjoyed the movie. Never got into the TV Series.

@  BlackMax : (25 April 2017 - 02:19 PM)

About twenty since I cared. :D :D :D

@  Whirl Maximus : (25 April 2017 - 01:50 PM)

ten years since Stargate SG1 ended.

it's all about that sweet, savory monosodium glutamate!

@  TheMightyMol... : (25 April 2017 - 10:58 AM)

If you're eating cheap Chinese, nutritional value is probably not the first thing on your mind.

@  Paladin : (25 April 2017 - 10:56 AM)

depends on where you get them from, but sometimes the paper has more nutritional value.

@  Robowang : (25 April 2017 - 10:21 AM)

I have actually eaten the cookie without opening it before. I didn't realize it until my wife asked what my fortune was.

@  BlackMax : (25 April 2017 - 09:18 AM)

It's like the fortune cookies. After getting so many over the years I just barely notice them.

@  Pennpenn : (25 April 2017 - 09:17 AM)

Sorry, yeah, I also dislike any policy which involves including putting Optimus Prime in teriyaki chicken.

@  unluckiness : (25 April 2017 - 09:13 AM)

That sounds like an unfair assessment of the teriyaki chicken.

@  Pennpenn : (25 April 2017 - 09:10 AM)

Yeah but there's no way they weren't designing it with the Optimus Maximus or whatever in mind. That said I could just be annoyed because I dislike the "every line must have at least one Optimus Prime in there somewhere" policy that Hasbro seems to have.

I've got a few TF items that I want to get autographed by the guests. Is there a strict limit on how many items each person in line can get signed?

Also, I heard that the Peter Cullen line is always intense, and that people who get there too late may not be able to get an autograph. Do people start waiting in line somewhere before the autograph sessions actually start? If so, how early should I plan on getting in line to guarantee a Cullen autograph? I have friends counting on me.

Aren't Peter Cullen's autographs done by raffle this year?

You guys hadn't heard?

Cullen's Autograph line is a lottery.

He's doing 125 and it's entirely random chance.

Good luck....

Oh well, at least as a Primus Package holder I'm automatically entered.

I didn't notice that before - unfortunate, but necessary. I've been in the loooong lines, and turned away from a closed autograph session. Cullen's autograph is much sought after, and valuable. I hope the need for this doesn't bleed over to the other guests anytime soon.

Yeah if Peter's line wasn't random you'd have to get in line hours before as ever since the first film was released (so after his BotCon 2007 autograph, which even that wasn't easy) he's become very hard to get his autograph due to how popular a draw he is.

WTCHOP?! When the heck was this announced? That stinks.

P.S. I wish they had the lottery system for the Customizing Class. Those things sell out so fast, only the super-hardcore constantly monitoring for the convention announcement have a chance.

It depends on the guest. If it's a popular guest you may want to get to the line an hour before. Either way, you want to make sure you're in line at least when it starts.

Two or so years ago an hour... a half hour was fine. You could get as many Autographs as you wanted as a Primus holder, provided you waited in line a lot. However they DID cut lines off last year. Scott McNeil's was cut off an hour- hour and a half before the signing even started. So if you REALLY want a specific autograph. Plan well in advance.

Most people should be available for Autographs on both days too so that should hopefully cut down on some of the lines.

Frankly, it increases your chance of getting an autograph from Cullen, unless you plan to start lining up for him the day before.

That only increases odds for people who aren't hardcore about getting in line early.

I would totally do that for a Cullen autograph. I've waited in some pretty horrendous lines, and at least this one would be indoor.

But it totally understand that it would suck for people choosing between waiting in line and everything else at Botcon.

But it that's how it is, I really hope they have a lottery for the customizing class next year.

Conventions Centers are never that big. Walk by the autograph area 2hrs, 1 1/2 and 1 hr before the autograph session starts. If there's a a line of more then 8-10 already queuing, get into it.

Wow, I didn't know Cullen's lines had gotten so busy. I remember having to wait an hour, but my wife and I each got two items autographed that year.

I think I have a Robovision Prime, a TRU reissue G1 Prime, an Eeyore book for my wife, and my 25th Anniversary TFTM signed by Cullen.

Wait, I also have a poster and a print out of some comic panel where Prime rips off his head and throws it into the mud. I must have seen him two different years. Was he there in '08 as well? Or '06?
