Look, I'm TRYING, okay?

@  Bass X0 : (23 July 2017 - 06:40 AM)

The devil is a part-timer!

@  Nevermore : (23 July 2017 - 06:32 AM)

I always took it to be a catch-all term for "person or thing of the same name" regardless of which came first.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (22 July 2017 - 10:06 PM)

So technically it could be either way and not be wrong, but it is more apt to be Kalidor's example.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (22 July 2017 - 10:05 PM)

one that has the same name as another; especially : one who is named after another or for whom another is named

@  Kalidor : (22 July 2017 - 09:45 PM)

I think the official meaning is that a namesake is the person or thing that is named after something else. So the USS Kalidor would be Kalidor's namesake

@  Pennpenn : (22 July 2017 - 08:30 PM)

I thought it was either?

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (22 July 2017 - 08:27 PM)

It is very irritating that no one seems to agree on whether the word "namesake" refers to the thing that came first or the thing that came second.

@  2017 : (22 July 2017 - 07:19 PM)

I'd like it, but I really don't have the cash or the justification.

Are there even enough toys of him to collect?

@  TheMightyMol... : (21 July 2017 - 04:21 PM)

A nerd.

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 04:19 PM)

Speaking of, what do you call someone who collects toys of the Marvel character The Collector?

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 04:18 PM)

What about people who collect the "Die Hard" movies?

@  wonko the sane? : (21 July 2017 - 03:54 PM)

A lot of the die hard collectors don't need to be louder...

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (21 July 2017 - 03:22 PM)

@Nevermore Benbot means "amped" as in excited. I believe the term is shorthand for (a sound) amplifier.

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 03:10 PM)

Or is "shorthand" a synonym for "amputated"?

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 03:10 PM)

Is "amped" shorthand for "amputated"?

@  Benbot : (21 July 2017 - 12:28 PM)

I am amped! But I also have standards.

@  Fear or Courage : (21 July 2017 - 08:38 AM)

I consider Thew to basically be the model toy collector. We should all aim to be so amped about the thing we collect.

@  Pennpenn : (21 July 2017 - 07:21 AM)

And some people are just whiny jerks who like to complain about stuff and don't realise that, so will invent irrational grievances to fuel that need.

@  Rycochet : (21 July 2017 - 06:13 AM)

A lot of toy collectors don't seem to get that the things the collect are toys.and have unrealistic expectations of what's doable in a modern retail environment. You're not going to get a $100 figure's worth of parts and paint for $20 or less and gimmicks are needed tomake the toys actually, you know, fun.

@  Foffy : (20 July 2017 - 09:40 PM)

Not necessarily. With the right condiments, they can taste surprisingly nice.

@  Evac : (20 July 2017 - 09:37 PM)

I think most toy collectors are bitter in some form.

@  Diecast : (20 July 2017 - 09:37 PM)

...or maybe I'm the bitter one?!  Oh no.

@  Diecast : (20 July 2017 - 09:32 PM)

And I don't even mean that everyone should love it all. But it does seem to bring the angrier ones in from the lurking.

@  Diecast : (20 July 2017 - 09:29 PM)

It's these reveals that always remind me how exceptionally bitter a large portion of toy collectors are on other forums.

@  Sean Whitmore : (20 July 2017 - 07:06 PM)

SDCC toy reveals make adults happy by telling them what they can get eventually. Kids don't care what they can get eventually, you make them happy by getting them whatever's available now.

@  Jalaguy : (20 July 2017 - 06:10 PM)

They exist, they just don't show them at SDCC because they assume that the adult fanbase doesn't care about them.

@  Steevy Maximus : (20 July 2017 - 06:03 PM)

On SDCC stuff...I'm disappointed, but not surprised, at the lack of the actual KIDS toys among all the toys for us old men

I'm supposed to un-enrolled in Medicare at the end of the month (36 months post-transplant), but I'm getting a bill for next quarter's coverage.

I've got a few TF items that I want to get autographed by the guests. Is there a strict limit on how many items each person in line can get signed?

Also, I heard that the Peter Cullen line is always intense, and that people who get there too late may not be able to get an autograph. Do people start waiting in line somewhere before the autograph sessions actually start? If so, how early should I plan on getting in line to guarantee a Cullen autograph? I have friends counting on me.

Aren't Peter Cullen's autographs done by raffle this year?

You guys hadn't heard?

Cullen's Autograph line is a lottery.

He's doing 125 and it's entirely random chance.

Good luck....

Oh well, at least as a Primus Package holder I'm automatically entered.

I didn't notice that before - unfortunate, but necessary. I've been in the loooong lines, and turned away from a closed autograph session. Cullen's autograph is much sought after, and valuable. I hope the need for this doesn't bleed over to the other guests anytime soon.

Yeah if Peter's line wasn't random you'd have to get in line hours before as ever since the first film was released (so after his BotCon 2007 autograph, which even that wasn't easy) he's become very hard to get his autograph due to how popular a draw he is.

WTCHOP?! When the heck was this announced? That stinks.

P.S. I wish they had the lottery system for the Customizing Class. Those things sell out so fast, only the super-hardcore constantly monitoring for the convention announcement have a chance.

It depends on the guest. If it's a popular guest you may want to get to the line an hour before. Either way, you want to make sure you're in line at least when it starts.

Two or so years ago an hour... a half hour was fine. You could get as many Autographs as you wanted as a Primus holder, provided you waited in line a lot. However they DID cut lines off last year. Scott McNeil's was cut off an hour- hour and a half before the signing even started. So if you REALLY want a specific autograph. Plan well in advance.

Most people should be available for Autographs on both days too so that should hopefully cut down on some of the lines.

Frankly, it increases your chance of getting an autograph from Cullen, unless you plan to start lining up for him the day before.

That only increases odds for people who aren't hardcore about getting in line early.

I would totally do that for a Cullen autograph. I've waited in some pretty horrendous lines, and at least this one would be indoor.

But it totally understand that it would suck for people choosing between waiting in line and everything else at Botcon.

But it that's how it is, I really hope they have a lottery for the customizing class next year.

Conventions Centers are never that big. Walk by the autograph area 2hrs, 1 1/2 and 1 hr before the autograph session starts. If there's a a line of more then 8-10 already queuing, get into it.

Wow, I didn't know Cullen's lines had gotten so busy. I remember having to wait an hour, but my wife and I each got two items autographed that year.

I think I have a Robovision Prime, a TRU reissue G1 Prime, an Eeyore book for my wife, and my 25th Anniversary TFTM signed by Cullen.

Wait, I also have a poster and a print out of some comic panel where Prime rips off his head and throws it into the mud. I must have seen him two different years. Was he there in '08 as well? Or '06?
