@  Pennpenn : (27 April 2017 - 03:23 AM)

Hard G. I don't give a solitary shit what the creators call it, the first word in the acronym is "Graphical". I have no idea why they'd think any sane human could, would, or should pronounce it any other way.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (27 April 2017 - 03:13 AM)

I acknowledge what the creators say, but whether I remember to use their pronunciation or not is hit or miss. Heck, I think I usually think of it in my head as "gee-i-ef", in parallel to "JPG" and "PNG".

@  Waspinator : (27 April 2017 - 02:50 AM)

Let's heat things up: what are everyone's opinions on how GIF should be pronounced?

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 11:11 PM)

But I will say that a lot of fandom forums are generally more tolerable nowadays because most belligerent types stick to Facebook groups

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 11:09 PM)

I do like their hard no-politics rule. Now that I do the occasional freelance writing for some local politics and I like zero percent of it my hobby space now. But holy cow, do they replace it with neck beard drama.

@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 10:30 PM)

like Noideaforaname I posted on TFW for a while. I came here after I got harassed for daring to suggest that Play With This Too was run by unoriginal hacks, and yeah. This place so much more preferable.

@  Nutjob R/T : (26 April 2017 - 10:15 PM)

@  Nutjob R/T : (26 April 2017 - 10:15 PM)

The terrible secret of the Allspark: We all have this twisted fetish for rational thought processes

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:13 PM)

Not everyone likes everything, and people aren't blind to shortfalls or annoyances resulting from constraints of how the brand is handled. We make many a joke out of these things. But it's a rare thing when entitlement replaces logic on here, where that seems to be poster raison d'etre everywhere else.

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:11 PM)

It's utterly weird how these here boards seem so impervious an oasis when it comes to that depth of idiocy. Worshipping 3p and demanding the official companies "step it up" and stop being so lazy? Insisting the movies be done THEIR way, crapping on every single thing revealed about the films or toyline, then whining that they can't find (insert hot movie to here) or the official release of a movie figure doesn't capture the look in the film they hated? Etc

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:09 PM)

It's not even a "brand pissing contest" or "board loyalty" thing, not least due to the fact that those don't really even happen here all that much. I'm just happy to be with levelheaded people who've outgrown the usual fan dumb tropes. You can have a civilized conversation here and people don't shit on things only to hide behind "but but but to each their own right?" when their myopic BS is challenged.

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:07 PM)

With each time nonsense like this flares up on tfw or on local discussion venues (and it does quite a bit) I'm just reminded of why I've essentially been allspark bound for the last... Fifteen or so years.

@  Noideaforaname : (26 April 2017 - 10:07 PM)

On the plus side, tho, TFW has "appreciation threads" for practically everything, even stuff like Kre-O and PCC. And their toy database is quite handy.

@  Noideaforaname : (26 April 2017 - 10:03 PM)

I've been happily posting on TFW for years. Then, after being *here* for a few months, I look back and wonder how the hell I even bothered with it. I mean, my ignore list had hundreds of people on it. Literally HUNDREDS of ignored people. I even showed off said gargantuan list once (with a small thumbnail that you couldn't read any of the names on, mind you). That... that really should have been a warning sign, I suppose...

@  WorkbenchManiac : (26 April 2017 - 08:03 PM)

Thanks, I enjoyed reading the nerdrage. I should hang out over there more often.

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 07:07 PM)

I mean, Reveal Your Shield. That gets complained about too.

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 07:04 PM)

One of the reveal the shield news threads at TFW has movie fans and G1 fans arguing over who has it worse

@  WorkbenchManiac : (26 April 2017 - 06:49 PM)

You got me awfully curious. What thread ware we talking about?

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:17 PM)

That was a quality read. Both sides of that thread's argument went pretty crazy.

@  Noideaforaname : (26 April 2017 - 02:11 PM)

"When Beast Wars made Optimus a monkey nobody complained" ~ someone desperate for a 'gotcha'

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:05 PM)

I want to find the rock they've been under that there isn't constantly complaining about something.

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:04 PM)

For the lack if a better word, it baffles me when someone starts a discussion somewhere that's like "Does anyone else not like the movies?"

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 12:13 PM)

Careful, it might have something to say about that.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 12:13 PM)

I'm gonna have to check your opinion out real good to make sure.

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 11:55 AM)

Oppinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, but mine is better so shut up.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 11:08 AM)

To clarify on point 1 since I was typing early in the morning again, "you must hate exactly what I hate" and "you msut like exactly what I like" aren't actually the same statement but they're the same thought process which is "my opinions are objective facts." If you see someone espousing one, they're probably thinking the other, too.

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:57 AM)

... what.

@  Bass X0 : (26 April 2017 - 10:15 AM)

Andrusi, I imagine to some people online, there isn't that much of a world of difference, at least going by the venom they post; although not at RiD specifically.

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 08:55 AM)

The scale of liking and hating is an interval one so you can not like something but not hate it. Pretty sure there's apathy and dislike in between there at least.

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 08:07 AM)

And humans are perfectly capable of hating things in unison while being divided on liking.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:34 AM)

On the other hand, there's a world of difference between "I hate RID" and "I hate Nazis."

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:27 AM)

On one hand, "hating what I hate" IS "liking what I like." One of those cultures can't be worse than the other because they're literally the same culture.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:26 AM)

I think that comparison is both an oversimplification AND a meaningless distinction.

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 07:16 AM)

That's the internet effect. Distance and anonimity make for easy and consequence-less extremism.

@  Bass X0 : (26 April 2017 - 06:58 AM)

I think the aggressive "How dare you not hate exactly what I hate" culture online is worse than the aggressive "How dare you not like exactly what I like" culture.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 06:19 AM)

And now that song/scene and its many many parodies are running through my head.

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 06:18 AM)

Patrick Swayze didnt!

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:58 AM)

lol. As long as they knock first.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:57 AM)

Or as ghosts. I guess ghosts would be acceptable.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:57 AM)

For now, I'd just find some small comfort in knowing those who have passed actually are in some sort of better place.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:56 AM)

I'd find comfort in knowing that one way or another, that suffering would eventually end and a new, potentially happier beginning awaits.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:54 AM)

@LBD At the same time, I can't imagine wanting to stay in even a happy afterlife when fleshies are still suffering.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:49 AM)

Celebrating and welcoming death just gives them more ideological hoops to justify killing others. So yeah, no thanks.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:48 AM)

The idea of death doesn't bother me so much as no longer existing.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:48 AM)

at the very least, my body will feed the grass which feeds the antelope which feeds the lio- ....wait

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:47 AM)

Yeah, that's kind of the thing.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:47 AM)

Some cultures celebrate/welcome death (of course, those also have some form of afterlife)

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 05:45 AM)

You shouldn't be. What with having absolutely no knowledge or control over it.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:45 AM)

Death is scary, which is why we either spend our lives avoiding the subject or staying up late overthinking it.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:44 AM)

"Never did want to live forever." I'm more bothered about what -- if anything -- is next.

TODAY ON "MY LITTLE PONY":

PINKIE PIE KNOWS HOW TO MAKE CUPCAKES.

AND CORN CAKES.

AND, UM... REGULAR CAKE CAKES.

BUT NOW, SHE FACES HER TOUGHEST CAKES YET:

HER EMPLOYERS' TWIN TODDLERS.

*ominous music*

WILL SHE PULL OFF THIS BABYSITTING JOB AND BE CROWNED "ACE OF CAKES"? OR WILL SHE BE THE ONE WHO ENDS UP GETTING BURNED?

TUNE IN AT 10 AM EASTERN, 7 AM PACIFIC, AND FIND OUT!

If you ever somehow become a Catholic saint, be aware that they will harvest your bones and build altars around them.

I figures she ends up trading them to the nice colt in the unmarked white stagecoach for all his candy; because no one offering candy can be evil.

Dear Princess Celestia,

Some people call me Baby Cakes

Now I, I call me Baby Cakes

I'm not ashamed to get excited

I get friends who get excited

I am Baby Cakes

I am Baby Cakes

I am the woooooorld

Being part of any fandom is fundamentally embarassing.

I suspect she'll call in the rest of the main six to help and they'll only make things worse. Rainbow Dash should not be around kids.

You'd deprive Rainbow of her clean-up minions?

This episode should be good, though. However, I am surprised the Cakes would have Pinkie as a babysitter... I mean I'm sure they love her (who couldn't?), but Pinkie? Surely she's lived at Sugarcube Corner for long enough now that they're aware exactly how special she is. She's mostly just a big kid herself... but one who can bend reality on a whim and is more like a force of nature than a mere pony. On one hand I think Pinkie would make an awesome (or at least extremely fun) older-sibling-esque figure, but on the other... this is Pinkie we're talking about. It's a recipe for disaster, which of course should make for hilarity on TV.

Also, on right now is a babysitting-focused episode of Phineas and Ferb. Funny how that works.

Indeed. Dinky and Derpy fans will be pleased to see confirmation that one type of pony can produce another type of offspring. Well, unless Mrs Cake has been sleeping around but that's very unlikely.

Pound and Pumpkin Cake sure are powerful for one month old fillies. And how creepy was the part where Pinkie was looking for Pound Cake?! The lighting, the music, everything just made it seem very creepy. I was convinced Pinkie was dreaming or something.

A good episode I thought. Pinkie got a few little musical numbers (and a stand up comedy routine) but I was expecting her Smile song to make an appearance.

Welcome! You have entered [The Well] at 7:55 am
[Dvandom] 7:55 am: Also, unless that's a regional hospital, Ponyville has an insane birth rate.
[Dvandom] 7:56 am: "That makes sense, right?" (Nervous twitch)
[scavgraphics] 7:56 am: sigh..Derpy/Dinkers just got proof
[pao] 7:56 am: evidence, not proof
[Dvandom] 7:57 am: [Mythbuckers] PLAUSIBLE
[scavgraphics] 7:57 am: thank you..I've been awake for 4 minutes...synapses not all online yet
[pao] 7:57 am: ^that
[Rezo] 7:57 am: Earth pony family. Getting only pegasi & unicorns.
[pao] 7:57 am: that was funnier than what I said
[The Well]: Caboose has entered at 7:57 am
[scavgraphics] 7:57 am: pao, well, he's a scientist
[pao] 7:57 am: explains the importance of flight schools
[Caboose] 7:58 am: Ba-dop doop
[pao] 7:58 am: is an engineer
[Rezo] 7:58 am: senses parenting difficulties in the future.
[sobana] 7:58 am: I see you like filling in plot holes now, mr. Nayuki
[sobana] 7:58 am: Good show
[scavgraphics] 7:58 am: there was a plot hole?
[sobana] 7:59 am: I thought they wouldn't explain that they had kids all this time
[Dvandom] 7:59 am: No one in my immediate family has blue eyes, but I do. Genetic recessives do pop up. OTOH, being around Pinkie so much has probably irradiated the Cakes or something.
[Nayuki] 7:59 am: plot isn't really my job
[Caboose] 8:00 am: Now, who said Pinkie wouldn't be good with kids?
[Rezo] 8:00 am: I was entertained by Mr. Cake's 'I can't sleep, can't shave, TOO NERVOUS' look
[pao] 8:00 am: well, good at entertaining kids
[Caboose] 8:00 am: PARTY WATCH
[Dvandom] 8:00 am: Clearly, this ep will be all about how it's not just the playing, there's all sorts of responsibility.
[pao] 8:01 am: so did I catch that Pinkie Pie has a Pinkie Pie watch?
[Dvandom] 8:01 am: Someone will no doubt point out that horses don't burp.
[Dvandom] 8:02 am: The multiple stomach arrangement doesn't really allow for it, IIRC.
[Dvandom] 8:02 am: Angel is a demanding boyfriend.
[Dvandom] 8:02 am: (And the Cakes clearly know not to ask Pinkie....)
[pao] 8:03 am: yep, last pony standing
[Dvandom] 8:03 am: Of course, they work with her, so they know better than anyone. icon-arcee.gif
[Dvandom] 8:04 am: (BOOM!)
[pao] 8:05 am: well, she's straight into "what was I thinking?" territory
[Dvandom] 8:05 am: Pretty sure a stack of cookies on the floor in front of the milk cooler breaks some health reg. (TrueMoo ad)
[sobana] 8:06 am: Rarity didn't give a reason why she wouldn't babysit, only my fanfic can explain that now!
[Rezo] 8:06 am: in b4 pinkie causes the entire mane cast to be involved, anyway.
[Rezo] 8:06 am: Btw, while I wouldn't exactly make pinkie my first pick, picking rainbow dash over her as a sitter was a low blow
[Dvandom] 8:06 am: In b4 Pinkie makes the parasprites look constructive.
[Rezo] 8:07 am: parasptrites are a vital part of the everfree ecosystem
[pao] 8:07 am: once you've unified the hoodie with the sweatpants, why not just include the feet, instead of making them a separate piece? (Forever Lazy ad)
[Dvandom] 8:07 am: Presumably they figured at least Dashie would know from Pegafillies.
[Dvandom] 8:08 am: RTFM
[Caboose] 8:09 am: There's your song, folks!
[Guardian Prime] 8:09 am: OINK OINK OINK!!
[scavgraphics] 8:09 am: as pigs are sentient...isn't this kind of racist?
[Rezo] 8:09 am: SURPRISE
[Caboose] 8:09 am: Pigs are sentient?
[Dvandom] 8:10 am: Pound Cake will definitely end up in Dashie's orbit at some point.
[pao] 8:11 am: youngest member of Scootaloo's Dash Fan Club?
[Caboose] 8:11 am: Uh.
[Dvandom] 8:11 am: Pound Cake is strong.
[pao] 8:12 am: d'ough!
[Caboose] 8:12 am: Did that baby just break a metal faucet?
[pao] 8:12 am: hits own rimshot like Pinkie
[Dvandom] 8:12 am: Pinkie in diaper
[Dvandom] 8:13 am: Ayuh
[Dvandom] 8:13 am: Twi has read a book.
[pao] 8:13 am: oh boy
[pao] 8:14 am: Pinkie feeling threatened much?
[Dvandom] 8:15 am: Been practicing the Flutterstare?
[Rezo] 8:15 am: srspinkie is efficient
[Rezo] 8:15 am: But prone of losing ponies
[sobana] 8:16 am: lol, I thought he was strong too when I saw him brake that metal faucet too.
[sobana] 8:17 am: Pinkie is out to prove something
[Dvandom] 8:17 am: Pound Cake will pound you.
[sobana] 8:17 am: I wonder if he only does that because they call him that.
[Dvandom] 8:18 am: Well, if he was kicking much in utero, they might have had an inkling.
[The Well]: WorkbenchManiac has entered at 8:19 am

[Dvandom] 8:20 am: Pinkie Pie in The Shining....
[pao] 8:20 am: among all the modernish childrearing technology, we don't have baby monitors
[Dvandom] 8:20 am: Spidercolt, Spidercolt, does whatever a....I got nothin.
[Dvandom] 8:20 am: Scootaloo will be hellajelly.
[pao] 8:20 am: this is pretty much Poof from Fairly Oddparents right now
[Caboose] 8:21 am: Scootaloo confirmed for disabled pegasus?
[Dvandom] 8:21 am: At least Pinkie didn't land in the diaper bin. Yet.
[Dvandom] 8:22 am: At least Pumpkin was explained by Rarity's line about strange magic bursts.
[pao] 8:22 am: inverted playpen less effective than butterfly net
[Dvandom] 8:22 am: "Awww, we broke another sitter."
[Dvandom] 8:23 am: "Dear Princess Celestia: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
[pao] 8:23 am: to Pinkie's credit...saved it!
[Dvandom] 8:24 am: Now, will Pinkie tell them about the fact they missed baby's first flight?
[Rezo] 8:25 am: So... the baby unicorn is already showing raw talent at least on twilight's level, if not higher icon-bee.gif
[WorkbenchManiac] 8:25 am: alright, praise be to the hubs policy of showing the same episode twice
[sobana] 8:26 am: We learn a vaulable lesson on friendship this episode for sure.
[sobana] 8:28 am: I like how they decided to stick with this big headed baby model from the Rainbow Dash super hero episode
[Dvandom] 8:28 am: Epilogue: Pinkie Pie at the hospital, demanding The Pill, NOW.
[Dvandom] 8:28 am: "No, I'm not seeing anyone, but I'm not taking any chances!"
[sobana] 8:29 am: My dad called me back into the living room, he thought the next episode was a different one lol
[scavgraphics] 8:29 am: sobana..well they do have creepy baby toys
[scavgraphics] 8:29 am: was wokverine in that commerical?
[scavgraphics] 8:30 am: Hub has SHS?
[Dvandom] 8:30 am: Yes.
[scavgraphics] 8:30 am: since when?
[scavgraphics] 8:30 am: and interesting..
[Dvandom] 8:30 am: Actually, Hub has ads for the SHS MMO.
[scavgraphics] 8:31 am: but those are ads...this was wolverine and hulk in the hub toons commerical
[Caboose] 8:31 am: D'aaaaw, pony babies are so adowable
[Dvandom] 8:31 am: Pinkie's watch reads out "Me Time".
[Dvandom] 8:32 am: Pound Cake already knows kung fu,.
[sobana] 8:33 am: You'd think Pinkie would have a better grasp of the situation after spending the day with the Cakes taking care of their kids and all.
[scavgraphics] 8:34 am: I like Rarity's refusual
[Dvandom] 8:34 am: You went astray at "Pinkie would have a better grasp of the situation" for any value of situation or grasp. icon-arcee.gif
[Rezo] 8:35 am: All things considered, I do like that they show Pinkie's more serious side without going overboard like in Party of One.
[sobana] 8:35 am: Would this explain why we haven't seen Ms. Cake in the last few episodes because she was with fowl?
[Rezo] 8:35 am: She HAS feelings that can be hurt or frustrated icon-bee.gif
[Dvandom] 8:35 am: With foal. Scootaloo's mom was with fowl.
[The Well]: Caboose has left at 8:35 am
[Dvandom] 8:36 am: Question answered, Scav.
[WorkbenchManiac] 8:36 am: that pun drove him away...

[sobana] 8:36 am: o.o
[sobana] 8:37 am: He is going to delete you from his heartdrive now
[Dvandom] 8:37 am: Oh, and Forever Lazy doesn't have footies built in because they WANT you to wear it with shoes out in public.
[Dvandom] 8:39 am: Even the baby Cakes find pig ethnic humor dubious.
[Rezo] 8:40 am: Surprise again~
[sobana] 8:40 am: any way, I'm off to play tor, you cats have a wonderful day, laters! =D
[The Well]: sobana has left at 8:42 am
[Rezo] 8:45 am: >twi's nose getting quished in a little bit as the door's thrown shut
[Rezo] 8:45 am: adorable~
[Dvandom] 8:46 am: Pound and Pumpkin are to pegasus and unicorn like Gohan is to Saiyans. Homeopathic ponies...the less genetics you have, the more potent the results.
[pao] 8:48 am: there are genetic situations kind of like that though; only one I can think of off the top of my head is sickle-cell carriers, but I believe there are other examples
[Rezo] 8:48 am: hee
[Dvandom] 8:50 am: They're the Richards kids, Franklin and Valeria.
[The Well]: WorkbenchManiac has left at 8:51 am
[Dvandom] 8:51 am: Pinkie just happens to have chains available, too.
[Dvandom] 8:52 am: And duct tape.
[Dvandom] 8:52 am: Her off-screen parties must get...interesting.
[scavgraphics] 8:53 am: oh, who doesn't have duct tape availble at any moment?

I'm a bit confused by this episode. I'm not sure why. I think it's the ending. She breaks down and cries, and that solves everything? Or is it that she accepts that she can't do it and tones down her energy some? Someone help me out here?

Things I liked: Pony genetics
The Cakes asking everypony else BEFORE Pinkie. And asking Fluttershy FIRST.
Pinkie using toon gags to help her: Plunger walking, pulling things out of hammerspace, offscreen teleportation...
Refusing Twilight's help out of pride. Something I would do by accident myself.
Frazzled Pinkie: Something adorable about that.
Pinkie toning down her energy and WORKING during the letter. Sure, things can be fun and games, but sometimes it's WORK.

As for why Pound Cake can fly, perhaps weight ratios? He doesn't weigh enough to keep him grounded? Perhaps Scoots hasn't grown into her wings yet.
Pumpkins casting must be instinctual. She probably can't do it on command once she gets older, and she probably has the power from the mentioned spell surges.

Hold up, did Pinkie ever put the diapers back ON? Oh, THAT can't end well....

A new story updating Mondays.

Well, it seems Surprise is fractionally canon now. The dark scene in the hallway was extremely well done. Pound Cake dragging Pinkie all over the place was possibly my favorite part (all kinds of gifs in that scene alone). I knew once the diaper scene started, Pinkie would end up wearing them. I predict wet mane Pinkie will be the next big thing. Another high tier episode in my opinion. Chock full of giffy goodness too.

Well, to be fair, Fluttershy was still having trouble flying in high school. Pound Cakes is merely a Super Saiyan pony.

I've seen it mentioned that Pound Cake's ability to fly could be akin to how a newborn baby is able to swim. They soon lose the ability and have to re-learn how to do it. Could be the same for pegasi and flying?

Pound Cake's ability to kick a metal pipe in half, however, is probably not typical of foals.
