50/60's Twilight Zone, the 80's, millennium and recent ones also, all are in The Twilight Zone.

Twilight zone. Duh.

have they actually gotten worse than the one where Homer gets paralyzed by a spider and has to learn to communicate through his farts?

@  unluckiness : (28 October 2020 - 05:53 AM)

It's only fitting that SImpsons have halloween specials since it's been a shambling corpse of its former self since its teens.

@  Maximus Ambus : (28 October 2020 - 04:12 AM)

No I caught one of the latest one with parodies of Stranger Things which admittedly is horror series but Heaven Can Wait and The Shape of Water are Fantasy films. Plus implications of the characters being sociopaths or twisted has become a norm these days.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (28 October 2020 - 02:58 AM)

Which probably adds to the "reasons they should just stop making more of The Simpsons" pile.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (28 October 2020 - 02:58 AM)

You make it sound like The Simpsons becoming less repetitive is a bad thing.

@  Maximus Ambus : (28 October 2020 - 02:48 AM)

Remember when Simpsons Halloween specials parodied horror movies and would have the characters make off out of character remarks like "we chucked donuts at a old man for kicks."? they don't and can't do that any more.

@  Steevy Maximus : (27 October 2020 - 08:00 PM)

Tired of the same old Halloween stuff? Check out Tubi. The depths of the schlock available is astounding.

Tesla Cybertruck: amazing or just silly looking? I can't decide.

@  Sukoshiko : (25 October 2020 - 12:24 AM)

Weird question: I had to deal with a guy today... I'm not exactly up on modern fashions... or even archaic fashions... But this guy... Tuxedo Jacket and shirt, studs in all the button holes except the bottom one, blue jeans, and cowboy boots... Take a moment to imagine that get up. And this was to a business meeting, trying to impress someone. What look is that? Who on earth would dress that way? (I mean on purpose)

@  wonko the sane? : (24 October 2020 - 06:04 PM)

I think the few up here were lost to bad placement, poor weather, and the usual language trap.

@  TM2-Megatron : (24 October 2020 - 04:25 PM)

There are 5 spread around southwestern Ontario, all run by the same company. I've only been to the one in my area, but it seems to do good business even in non-pandemic times. On long weekends, when they do triple features, there's a normally a lineup to get in Friday and Saturday nights

@  Telly : (24 October 2020 - 01:51 PM)

there been one outside of my town for as long as ive been alive at least. its gone through its share of owners and periods of being closed down, but its been open for the past decade at least

@  Otaku : (24 October 2020 - 12:08 PM)

Bias from personal experience, but drive-in theaters are nearly extinct.  I grew up near one but it went out of business in the late 80s, and was torn down and replaced with some other business by the early 90s.

@  wonko the sane? : (24 October 2020 - 07:47 AM)

Out here, I mean. Couldn't comment on their popularity in place where they actually exist.

@  wonko the sane? : (24 October 2020 - 06:44 AM)

I wouldn't know. They've only come back into vogue with the social distancing from the plague, and while some places have made an effort to shoestring the places together, it's all largely too distant to be accessible.

@  TM2-Megatron : (23 October 2020 - 09:46 PM)

I'd hate to see ours replaced by condos. They're a great way to spend an evening, whether with family or on a date. And they've never been as common in Canada as the US, so we cna't afford to lose as many

@  wonko the sane? : (23 October 2020 - 09:45 PM)

Largely they were either poorly placed or bought out and torn down to be replaced by something other than over priced short term parking. Mostly condos.

@  TM2-Megatron : (23 October 2020 - 09:14 PM)

I guess your winters are worse, so they have a shorter operating season. Drive-ins in the Toronto area can usually operate until early or mid-December; maybe even into early January if there's no real snowfall, and open up again sometime in March.

@  TM2-Megatron : (23 October 2020 - 09:13 PM)

THere's really only 1 left in the entire province?

@  wonko the sane? : (23 October 2020 - 09:03 PM)

Ha! It's probably faster for me to drive to your drive in than to make my way to the only one left in quebec.

@  TM2-Megatron : (23 October 2020 - 06:57 PM)

Fortunately we still have a drive-in theatre that's exempt from the closures about a 10 minute drive away

@  TM2-Megatron : (23 October 2020 - 06:57 PM)

Theatres around here are closed again for at least another couple weeks (wouldn't be surprised if it's extended by another month or so, either), but that's what they've been doing here as well. Playing the old classics

@  Maximus Ambus : (23 October 2020 - 02:36 PM)

I got Earthrise Megatron, he's better then I thought he'd be though Netflix Megatron is still tops.

@  Bass X0 : (23 October 2020 - 10:44 AM)

The original Rocky movie is also showing. May go next weekend. That’s how you get people back in the theatres - show the old classics every adult loves.

@  wonko the sane? : (23 October 2020 - 10:35 AM)

They did a limited run showing of it up here too, back when the theaters were open... red zones suck.

@  Bass X0 : (23 October 2020 - 10:13 AM)

The original Back To The Future is showing in the Odeon in the UK now. I think I will go see it tomorrow.

@  Donocropolis : (23 October 2020 - 05:51 AM)

It was either the Bumblebee or Cliffjumper. Can't remember the colors.

@  Kalidor : (22 October 2020 - 06:43 PM)

What did it look like?

@  Donocropolis : (22 October 2020 - 01:34 PM)

I swear I remember getting the Happymeal G1 minibot as a child, but I live 2.5 hours from St. Louis, which is the only place they apparently came out. It's possible that I got it on a family vacation, though, as we went to Six Flags pretty often.

@  ▲ndrusi : (22 October 2020 - 01:07 PM)

Conversely, I had the Gobot helicopter from Wendy's and I was absolutely convinced it was an actual Transformer.

@  Donocropolis : (22 October 2020 - 08:13 AM)

I used to rubber-band Hot-Wheels style construction vehicles together and pretend it was Devestator.

@  Bass X0 : (21 October 2020 - 05:26 PM)

When I was about four years old, my parents bought me Bugbite and tried to tell me it was Bumblebee. I was not yet a fan of Transformers, but I knew that wasn't Bumblebee. I didn't even have the real Bumblebee at that time.

@  Maximus Ambus : (21 October 2020 - 01:39 PM)

It would come with two soundtracks: the eighties classic and one featuring dubstep and the VAs are popular Youtubers.

@  wonko the sane? : (21 October 2020 - 12:13 PM)

But yeah, reading it: I came off as a bit of an ass.

@  wonko the sane? : (21 October 2020 - 11:52 AM)

I just couldn't think of worse music than disco...

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 October 2020 - 11:35 AM)

What were you trying to imply with the mocking sarcasm, though? Nobody suggested that '80s music was any more "of it's time" than '70s music.

@  wonko the sane? : (21 October 2020 - 11:18 AM)

I said that disco wouldn't fare much better with the same context: media is property of it's time; biases, culture and limitations are all inherent in that. Some stuff can be brought forward because of an inherently timeless nature or the simplicity with which it was made but lots of media is a time capsule of the period of when it was made.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 October 2020 - 08:46 AM)

I'm not sure what you're trying to imply, or what you even think I said.

@  wonko the sane? : (21 October 2020 - 08:11 AM)

Yeah, cause disco would make the transition so much better...

Didn't really care for it. Batman and Ninjago were both mediocre and so much of this clearly hangs on the reveal from the first movie. Seems obvious the idea is the sister put them through hell as a toddler and has now returned now she's older.

Also that "hapless male" bit in the trailer is so desperately trying to grab interest. I swear the first movie was smarter at challenging Hollywood sexism.

Honestly, I never liked the humans scene in the first movie, it kind of ruins the sense of disbelief one has up until that point, I really hope they don't do that again. With the Lego Batman movie, I actually enjoyed that film, it is one of the best Batman films around, Ninjago, I've not seen but then I not seen anything of the TV show so I not bothered with it.

I got the lego defender of the Universe in today, 16 bags of stuff, haven't begun construction, YET, but I look forward to building Voltron

For some odd reason, I just wasn't all that interested by Voltron - despite having Mattel's most recent beast as well as the new Playmates Legendary Defender versions on display.

I did pick up the Ninjago Quake Mech from Target, which had been placed on the plan-o-gram at $45.  I had never really intended to pick that one up, but the Price-per-Piece ratio was too outstanding to pass up.  I'm headed down the slippery slope of getting all of the Ninjago Movie mechs now (I got Jay's Lightning Jet for $35 at Wal-mart a few weeks ago).

Well, maybe not Zane's Ice Tank.  Even at a deep discount, it's really hard to see that design in anything remotely resembling a positive, non-boring light.

So far, I'm over half way through construction, I done the Blue & Yellow lions, most of the Black Lion, only the rear legs to go with him, then its onto the green and red lions, I had to laugh at what they use for the cross on Voltron's chest, its a lego verison of a tool used to remove the bolts on a car wheel when one has broken down! As I did the blue lion I found one part missing which is a single panel, lucky spare parts came to the rescue, AGAIN, while not very important, it does kind of complete the look! One thing I can say for this kit, its a different take on the idea of build Giant robot, this guy is going to be pretty large when finished, the yellow & blue lions are about the size of a deluxe transformer in robot mode, so he'll be large that is for certain, can't wait to finish him, but there is other things that need doing, plus I'm taking a small break from construction!

The Quake Mech is totally not a kid-friendly model.  Not just because the MSRP is $90, which is insane for a kid's toy, but because the single wheel as its legs is so not stable for play.

Yes, there's a kickstand to help it stabilise when at rest, but as soon as it gets off that kickstand, gravity demands a massive face-plant.

I've found that grasping it by the kickstand, when moving towards wheel-mobility, is the best practice, but holy carp, I've come really close to breaking it just handling it.

It's still quite impressive, just not recommended for kiddies.

Completed the Voltron, its a intersting build with a few parts I've never seen before and it kind of makes me think it could kind of bring some different mech desgins in the future using the parts for the arms, but one thing for certain, its more of a display piece than anything else, the combined form has no movement in the legs, only the head and arms can move, so posing is limited unless you want to take off one the Black Lion's rear legs and have it facing in the manner of the lion mode, just to get a sort of kick pose! I'll take some pictures later and upload them, but overall, its a good build, made one major goof during construction, in regards to Voltron's left arm, how one of the parts go, I put it in wrong and the arm was floppy, but that's now been fixed!

Yeah, same here.  And it's weird.  You'd think I'd want it.  I love Lego.  I love Voltron.  Together they just don't do it for me.  This despite me having no trouble with blocky Star Wars Lego stuff.  *Shrugs.

For me, I think it has more to do with me phasing out of LEGO again this year.

I've been collecting consistently since 2011, and I've amassed a load of bricks and sets, most of which I don't have the shelf space to display.

I think if it had come out a year ago, it would have been a different story, but alas, Voltron remains a hard pass.

Lego Voltron, is best suited to display than anything else, at the moment, unless I go about customising it but that be a lot of work, mainly around the Black lion's legs, not the actual legs but the body connections because as it is, you have to disconnect the legs with some of the body and move them to a different procession for lion mode, I'll do it at some point but currently I'm more focused on scheming improvements to my castle, I want to expand it and make the walls a bit more stable, not the Nexo Knights castle but my big custom castle that I constructed from three sets of King's castle, its mainly the front and rear I want to expand outwards so that everything inside that I've added can be moved about to improve space, this is what it currently looks like inside:

43500012074_e54c5eafbf_k.jpg

As you can see, its crampped with a bar, a black smith, an armoury contained within, so I want to expand more.

The Mega Construx gods must have finally heard my lamentations about my lack of certain original 151 pokemon availability and sent unto my local Target a Series 4 power panel.

So I finally have Shellder and Magnemite without paying through the nose via after market prices.

I haven't opened Magnemite yet, but Shellder might be one of my favourite micro-builds right up there with Meowth and Rattata, which is no easy feat considering he's pretty much bereft of articulation.

Shit, I need to get Snorlax now before he disappears.  I feel like he's a Target exclusive or something since I've only ever seen him there.

And once I add Blastoise, I think I'll be in the clear to wait a while and see if Venusaur and Mew/Mew-Two come down in price at all.  I am excite to almost be caught up on that collection.

Expanded my BIG castle, also expanded my mini figures in resent days!

Speaking of lego, back in the summer, there was a trail of large Sculptures in my local city and one was made of lego, tonight was the Auction and lego Gromit went for £22.000 or in USD: $28,505.40

Here's a picture of that Gromit:

Gromit_at_LEGO_HQ.original.jpg

He wasn't the highest seller of the trail thou, the highest went on two Sculptures of Wallace, which was £55.000, each (UDS: 71,263.50), the money raised from the trail and selling the scultures is going to charity to help sick children, the charity is at the heart of Wallace and Gromit creators and the company behind them, its a local charity in some respects being based in the city near to where I live! I did get out and see all of the sculptures around the city and that was good fun, it takes one to parts of the city and region one would not normally go, it makes for great family days out, but the trail is over and they have now been sold!

ok, I got in the mail in the last couple of days:

Lego City Airshow, which is a aircraft hanger, two jets, one byplane for stunts, plus a ground vehicle, this is a good set, unlike the one I got in the mail today/yesterday!

The other kit is: Ninjago Garmadon's Volcano Lair, it has some nice desgin ideas but honestly, its one of the worse models I've come across, it kind of feels incomplete on top of the fact it keeps falling apart with its surport structure at the base, the Nexo Knights Knightinton Castle is better desgined than this, the main problem tends from the fact its on stilts with little thought given to how its all connects together, thankfully I incooperated the segements into another model of mine and they are being kept seperate but I do not recomend it unless you got some grand plan in mind to attach to another model, example of the bad desgin comes down to connecting two small base plates together, they use a two dot plate as a connection and the model keeps breaking as your trying to build it, even with the upper level connection, it still wants to fall apart!

I did also get cheep, another copy of Jestro's Volcano lair with most of Arrons fighter from the Nexo Knights range, I don't plan to build the lair as I got my own but I plan to incooperate parts to make it slightly bigger and maybe have a place for my lego Smaug to stand or maybe have what I've kind of taken from some other parts I gotten resently, and dubbed the throne of Darkness, I just got a bit of a back story in mind that I might turn into a photo comic at some point!

Part of the new holiday reset at Big Lots.  It's not a "rebuild into a giant robot" deal like last year's sets, the vehicles simply attach to each other once completed, using Mixel-style ball and socket joints.  Haven't built mine yet, so here's the box pic.  (Also comes in a color variant.)

Jestro's Volcano Lair is a great set.  I've long phased out of my brief Nexo Knights collection, but that model is staying built.

Of course, I removed Jestro from the top spot and gave it to that dark wizard from one of the CMF series a few years ago because his deco demanded it.

Garmadon's Volcano Lair wasn't bad for the small size that it was.  Obviously, I would have preferred a $120 model, but what can you do?

These are usually fun, cheap little sets and a good source of parts.  I may have to pick this one up, see what else I could make out of it.

Make improvements, expand the original desgin or connect it to another model as I have done, or you could just dismantle it and build something else out of it, which is Lego's primary function, construction!
