Zea mays

@  Xellos : (16 July 2019 - 09:53 PM)

Isn't that a kernel of truth.

@  Paladin : (16 July 2019 - 08:43 PM)

huh. suddenly the Squawk is popping.

@  TheMightyMol... : (16 July 2019 - 07:47 PM)

Not placing much stalk in this conversation.

@  Nevermore : (16 July 2019 - 06:22 PM)

That's so corny.

@  Shrug : (16 July 2019 - 06:07 PM)

It's absurd how happy I am that a post of mine made the front page of Reddit.

@  TheMightyMol... : (16 July 2019 - 05:46 PM)

Aww, shucks.

@  TriBlurr : (16 July 2019 - 05:45 PM)

Not till I taste the corn

@  Kalidor : (16 July 2019 - 05:43 PM)

You guys aren't being very nice. You're supposed to tell me I did "good, really good!"

@  TheMightyMol... : (16 July 2019 - 05:40 PM)

Just don't go beyond the rows.

@  Patch : (16 July 2019 - 05:39 PM)

Left over from the failed Beast Machines sequel, Beast Farmers

@  Patch : (16 July 2019 - 05:39 PM)

It's techno-organic corn

@  TriBlurr : (16 July 2019 - 05:26 PM)

We have a cornfield? Can I get a few ears?

@  Kalidor : (16 July 2019 - 12:56 PM)

And lastly, if it becomes too much hassle to deal with - it might just get sent into the cornfield and replaced with a Discord box anyway. So cool it.

@  Kalidor : (16 July 2019 - 12:55 PM)

Second thing is we do actually have the ability to ban users specifically from using Shoutbox if it's being abused like that

@  Kalidor : (16 July 2019 - 12:55 PM)

Hey all - just a reminder and heads up. The Shoutbox has been kept here as a courtesy because it's what you folks like in lieu of Discord - but a few things to remember is that P&R should stay in P&R and isn't really something that needs to be dragged out here in the most public of spaces.

@  Nevermore : (16 July 2019 - 11:04 AM)

Done.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 July 2019 - 10:25 AM)

You can make a new one. I doubt anybody would stop you.

@  Nevermore : (16 July 2019 - 10:16 AM)

There was a thread but it appears to have disappeared. Might have been lost in one of the older forum sweeps.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 July 2019 - 09:58 AM)

Yeah this is pretty much circumventing the fact that we have different rules for political talk.

@  fourteenwings : (16 July 2019 - 09:55 AM)

Okay, so, basically, can we not do politics in here anymore? I mean, considering how often @Nevermore, you talk about your work conditions, don't you think it's time for a dedicated thread in P&R?

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 09:39 AM)

Scratch that; that's insulting to honest salads. Whatever that was was the text equivalent of hamburger.

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 09:38 AM)

Would you like some dressing to go with your word salad?

@  Paladin : (16 July 2019 - 09:34 AM)

yes; it now goes "shit piss hug *BLEEP* ^$@^ motherhuger **** turd fart encyclopedia & Socialism."

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 09:24 AM)

This is an American site, but isn't that unnecessarily severe language? IIRC it's one of the top four offensive pejoratives to English people

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (16 July 2019 - 08:52 AM)

It's amusing how so many (U.S.) wankers in this world love to whine "capitalism good socialism bad!" in the abstract while simultaneously pretending that megacorporations dominating de facto monopolies is anathema to the core capitalistic principle of competition benefits everyone.

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 05:17 AM)

I know Shockwave's super mode is pretty lame and Magnus is kinda greebly but it's not that bad.

@  TM2-Megatron : (16 July 2019 - 12:38 AM)

Though with the luck and caliber of leaders we've had of late in the darkest timeline, maybe it's too much to hope for.

@  TM2-Megatron : (16 July 2019 - 12:36 AM)

Just like democracy, it's not perfect but better than the present alternatives. Capitalism as it's practiced today won't be able to weather the coming wave of automation, though. Best to plan for it and hope for a gentle transition rather than the aforementioned collapse

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 12:27 AM)

Capitalism is the worst amiright? Sent from my iPhone

@  Vexwing : (15 July 2019 - 11:24 PM)

Because the collapse is gonna be just great.

@  TM2-Megatron : (15 July 2019 - 10:41 PM)

Let's hope this is late stage and we're on the cusp of something better.

@  abates : (15 July 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Late stage capitalism is the absolute best.

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 July 2019 - 01:33 PM)

So, welcome to all retail, everywhere.

@  Nevermore : (15 July 2019 - 01:24 PM)

Oh, and Greenpeace also conducted a protest at a German Amazon facility, to protest against Amazon's practice of throwing customer returns in the trash.

@  Nevermore : (15 July 2019 - 01:17 PM)

Right, because with Amazon, it's just the employees that have to step in dog shit while having no space to breathe.[/slightexaggeration]

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (15 July 2019 - 01:03 PM)

At least I can use Amazon without losing the ability to breath or step in dog shit.

@  RichardT1977 : (15 July 2019 - 12:58 PM)

Considering that Amazon is the new Walmart...

@  Nevermore : (15 July 2019 - 12:39 PM)

All of my best wishes go out to the brave women and men who have the balls (and ovaries) to go on strike at an Amazon facility in the US.

@  Nevermore : (15 July 2019 - 12:38 PM)

Speaking of. Not only are we in Germany on strike today, but so is the fulfillment center in Shakopee, Minnesota!

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 July 2019 - 12:36 PM)

Overnight delivery is the right of all sentient beings.

@  RichardT1977 : (15 July 2019 - 12:34 PM)

(and is it sexist of me to assume that a character named "Amazon Prime" would be feminine?)

@  RichardT1977 : (15 July 2019 - 12:34 PM)

Whenever she was summoned, she would arrive the next day?

@  NotVeryKnightly : (15 July 2019 - 12:32 PM)

The Scioli and Barber TF vs Joe series mentioned an Amazon Prime.

@  RichardT1977 : (15 July 2019 - 12:22 PM)

Meanwhile I'm wondering why no one's come up with a fan character named "Amazon Prime". I mean, today IS her special day...

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 July 2019 - 11:20 AM)

The Wallet-Eater.

@  unluckiness : (15 July 2019 - 08:44 AM)

Woah. Unicron broke the site.

@  MEDdMI : (14 July 2019 - 10:08 PM)

Is that what kids are calling it these days?

@  TheMightyMol... : (14 July 2019 - 07:33 PM)

Ssshh, you'll get us both "dealt with".

@  RichardT1977 : (14 July 2019 - 07:28 PM)

No, but I did *read* it from you...

Just for fun -

If you could design one vehicle for the Joe franchise, what would you do?

Me, I'd love to see the Stingbat LHX in Joe form. I'd probably give it a proper chin-mounted gun, but there's not much else I'd change. It's got that nice futuristic look that seems to do so well nowadays, and fiction-wise we could have some fun with the supposed "stealth" aspects.

edit - maybe call it the "Shadowfly" or something.

That would be perfect.

Man i loved those speculative model kits of what if super secret prototypes inspired by Aerospace magazines.

Ha - I built that model (those landing skids were sooo delicate)! I think it's still somewhere in my old room at my mom's house.

Those were fun kits. I built the X-19 and Soviet Stealth Fighter too and I one of the things I'll always remember in the little "write-up" for the Soviet Stealth was a comment about how it was all angular (unlike the smooth X-19) because the Russkies didn't have the technology to do smooth stealth... and then a year or so later the F-117 was revealed. :D

And now back on the topic of Joes.

Not really a new recipe but I made a little more work for myself since I wanted to use up assorted parts vs burn up another Desert Zartan. So, it's Quick Kick's torso with new hands from someone, RoC Viper legs and a Professor X head. The head's skin tone is different, but doesn't stand out much at all in regular light.

In all seriousness, I've heard people complain that "realistic military" isn't selling very well because folks are squeamish given the current global situation. As such, they argue, Hasbro should stay away from any real-world designs.

Thing is, we've got plenty of real-world designs that are just "futuristic", "retro", or otherwise odd enough to where a person might not even realize it's real unless someone told them.

For example, consider X-planes like the X-36 or the X-44, whose designs are almost like something from a science fiction work. Or we have the WWII-era Archer tank destroyer, whose gun was mounted facing the rear of the vehicle so that the tank could retreat without needing to turn around; if you ask me, this is perfect for someone like Cobra, who is frequently seen running away from the latest engagement.

Umm. That's people in this thread who've directly told you this, and it's been a large part of all discussion on the brand. It's also not just an abstract observation from the ether, nor is it a complaint. You also then just ignore what you've just said and show a completely normal-looking tank. /confused

I think things like the HISS and the Night Raven work well as a mix of fantasy and reality. I don't think the vehicles are as big a problem as the rest, but I think it'd be in bad taste for Hasbro to release things like Predator drones in the line. It works in Transformers, but probably can't quite clear it in a Joe aimed at kids.

I actually saw the new female Corps figure in Wal-Mart and, by golly, I nearly bought that thing.  Haven't bought a Corps figure yet, but that's a better looking woman sculpt than Hasbro's managed in... I don't even know how long.

For those that might care, Big Lots! has the World Peacekeepers bombed-out building "Battlefield" environment in stone colours now (previously was in desert theme) for $40.

Eh, I'll take oversized to man-jawed, which seems to be a Hasbro peculiarity of the last few years.  Even Sienna Miller.

Looks incredible.  I'm so surprised it took so long for her to be made, but she isn't something I'd ever expect at retail and probably requires a bit too much new tooling for a normal club exclusive.

Damn. I think she has a new head, upper torso AND hands there.

Lower torso looks to be from Reactive Armor Scarlett. Arms are probably bluecamo ROC Scarlett or Renegades Scarlett. Not sure on the legs. They might've mixed-and-matched uppers and lowers.

That upper torso is kind of crazy. You can put Marvel U upper torsos on Joe lower ones, but it seems unlikely they'd be given permission for that. That's a pretty big thing for them to do completely from scratch though. That being said, having a "t-shirt" style female upper would open up at least a couple of other options like a Renegades Lady Jaye for starters.

Hasbro used the mold for Toht to make a Cobra Commander, but that was a Comic Con exclusive and so I don't know if it was simply a case of the production run and release being too limited for anyone to care.

Whether a Marvel Universe body could be used might not just be a licensing issue but a logistical one instead. Depending in which factories the various bits are made. Having half a figure made and then shipped across the country or even across borders and then finished in another factory is... a bit of wishful thinking.
