Well, if the merchant benefited from it there's no harm, I guess. Some people just aren't comfortable dealing with foreign currencies; although admittedly those usually aren't the types who'll go to a place like Estonia.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:51 PM)

I gather this was an ad hoc sale with no machine around. Or the U.S.-Americans in this story were so entitled they didn't bother getting any euros for their trip. One hears about the latter phenomenon often enough.

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 March 2019 - 05:46 PM)

Easier to just use a credit card with no foreign currency conversion fee. There are plenty to choose from in the US

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:40 PM)

Joke's on them because the USD-EUR exchange rate gave him a lot more.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:39 PM)

Just read an anecdote on Facebook from an Estonian guy who once accepted U.S. dollars on par from some 'Mericans who didn't change their currency when traveling to another country.

Anybody else finding 30th anniversary figs at their local TRU?  Stopped in payday, found Blowtorch, Hawk, Jungle-BAT, and Cobra Commander.  Only grabbed a Jungle-BAT.... as a traded for 2 a week before, got that Hawk in the 35th pack, and didn't want the other two anyway.

No sign of 'em in the Indianapolis area, as far as I know. And one of the two TRUs I visit is completely devoid of Joe stuff.

Comically enough, we got that wave... but in a revision case that lacked Shadow Tracker. So Destro was handy, Tracker was not.

Not gonna deny POC Hawk is a stellar figure (although I don't think he works as Hawk so for now he's got a spare POC Duke pulse rifle and is being Dodger) but he never struck me as a fodder figure type. What're you planning to do, if you don't mind my asking?

...not feeling it. Just a 50th Eel with a few vintage accessories. The scuba mask doesn't look like it fits on particularly well.

Kinda wish they'd tried something using the still-unreleased 50th "Eel" figure.

Well, as of now, I don't have any hard and fast designs for him.  I plan to use some of his accessories (goggles, web gear, and case) on a custom that I'm doing for a friend.  I have a good friend who loves G.I. Joe and was in the military; I'm doing a larger-than-life, cartoony version of him kind of along the lines of an SDCC gift set.  He comes with a HISS tank, his own B.A.T., a motorcycle and an ATV.

As for the rest of Hawk, unless I come up with something, he'll probably be relegated to the "parts fodder" section of my customs bin.

Yeah, that's a bit underwhelming.  They needed to figure out some kind of chest piece to copy the front airtank of Undertow's.  Otherwise it just looks like a weird Eel.

That's a pretty bad Undertow, and it's not even in the better original colour or the early 2000s repaint in Cobra colours.

And if the sightings thread at hisstank.com's right, then the other TRU I visit is devoid of Joes beyond Battle Below Zero sets.

Pity. I'm probably the only person around who might actually want a single-packed Blowtorch now.

Why would an Iron Grenadier trooper be in "Cobra colors" in the first place? I mean, "looks cool" has merit, don't get me wrong, but I can understand why the Club wouldn't do something that was so random when there are other options.

Personally I don't understand wanting the original colors over this. With all the factions and subteams in the GI Joe brand, cohesion is actually very rare, and for me at least it adds an element of menace and unification to the IGs. A soldier looking out at an entire literal army of black and red and gold is going to be a bit more frightened than looking out at guys in black over here, some guys in grey and green over there, some orange and purple guys, and so on.

I guess I should rephrase: I do understand the nostalgic preferences, but to me it's an upgrade that makes the IGs legion rather than random smatterings.

Yes, because everyone being the same color worked so well for the RoC line. :D

Seriously though, that's not what the toyline has ever really been about and certainly not what the Collector's Club line of figures is supposed to be about. If we wanted something almost right we could kitbash parts.

I guess it makes a certain amount of sense though as they're just homaging their earlier Club repaint vs the original figure.
