@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:41 AM)

Like, in general, not going into specific bands or covers. Because I could point out plenty of repainted toys I didn't like as much as the original, too.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:39 AM)

Is a musician covering a song "fixing" it?

@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

Guess my question is redundant!  Yahoo got the exclusive reveal of GIJoe Origins Snake Eyes mass market line.  As I called last year, the core line will be 6" modestly articulated figures, supported by a 12" feature figure, a small vehicle for 6" figures, and some role-play for the kids.

https://www.yahoo.co...-140045253.html

Perhaps the most notable thing is that "wave 2" features Night Creeper (original ARAH design), Red Ninja (Classified), and Scarlett (Classified-ish).  So it remains to be seen how many of these toys will reflect the actual movie designs.  I'm sure Classified will get those.  Also featured is another Snake Eyes figure on the bike which is an inverse of the blue visor SE.  I'm still suspecting there will be a couple more surprises.

I hope Hasbro commits to this scale for a bit.  I like them, they are "good enough".  I am perfectly happy with what I see of that Red Ninja, and would rather get that over the $20 Classified version.

I won't be buying any of this, but I hope it does well enough to get the retro line going better (and maybe away from Wal-Mart exclusivity).

These look good, and I hope they do well. Still a shame that this continues the move away from 3.75; those designs are pretty neat and this chunkier aesthetic is pretty good looking.

The designs do look cool, but the fact they are the 6 inch with little articulation does not sell it to me.  Not like I'm buying toys anymore anyway.

But if that creeper WAS 3 3/4 with PoC/30th articulation, I'd be on it like gangbusters.

My first reaction: These look OK, for 3 3/4 inch figures.

As 6-inch figures: These look like 3 3/4 figures.

The Snake Eyes Classified figures are really nice. Particularly everyone except for maybe Storm Shadow (little plain at first glance). The three ladies are great as well as Goulding.

And AoA Sabretooth.

Holy heck, what has happened to my toy preferences?

Movie Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are good, but I like the new female character in particular. At first glance, I assumed it was Jinx, but this is a new character.

Baroness is pretty good, that's a fantastic head sculpt too.

Scarlett looks aces as well, I like her design way more than Classified. I'd love to see this in 4inch.

Akiko, looks good. She'll shelf warm I feel, the actress is in a really good FMV game called The Late Shift.

Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, Hollywood how do you make these two look so boring?

Baroness looks like Lisa Loeb... which I'm ok with.

But yeah, all the design are pretty cool - clearly recognizable but updated. Too bad I'm still not doing 6".

I hate that Hasbro's using that "dirty snow" tone of white, again.  Look great otherwise and I'm eager for Paramount to finally SHOW US SOMETHING.

I'm really resistant to "buying into" a line without seeing the movie, and it feels like there is another wave slotted in late next summer.

Also, the movie's coming out July 23!  Not sure if this is a good thing or not.  Probably better for Hasbro since they'll get the theatrical run, Paramount Plus showing and home video first run to promote the line.  Godzilla vs Kong is doing good numbers, and a good percentage of big releases seemed geared to kids and families.  About everything else skewed to the GI Joe demographic is available to view streaming.  It has a better chance than the increasingly full fall slate.

I saw one butthurt JOEWUNNER on Facebook call this the "worst Baroness figure" and like have you SEEN the horrifying headsculpt that's an insult to Sienna Miller on the first Rise of Cobra Baroness figure?

The more I see Akiko, the more I think she might be my favorite figure in this wave. Good head portrait, new character to the Joe mythos, and her figure is only a quick earth-tone paint away from working as a Star Wars Black Jedi.

And Henry Golding is INCREDIBLY PSYCHED about hocking these toys. He seems like a good dude. I really want this film to be successful.

Hell, you could lump a shockingly large percentage of ME female head sculpts as being anywhere from “mediocre” to “dear god, who hit this figure with the ugly stick”.

I’m still just containing myself.  They’re good, but my finances are much tighter than a couple months ago, and I’ve been burned in recent years buying into movie lines just to be horrifically disappointed in the films themselves (or at least not get into the films enough to justify the merchandise purchase).

I’ll probably be forever disappointed Hasbro dumped SO MUCH resources into Rise of Cobra...when Retaliation was the Joe movie I wanted and it ended up so under-merchandised.

That's a strange one to me because S7 has already done a regular BAT complete with 3D versions of the "insides" that mimic the original toy's lenticular sticker. This thing has the exact same insides but painted totally different.
