They aren't all cranky... sure, it's hard to find one in a good mood, but still.

@  unluckiness : (21 September 2019 - 09:12 AM)

Cranky geese is a hell of a tautology

@  wonko the sane? : (21 September 2019 - 09:07 AM)

... that's like the third flock of geese this morning. Do those cranky bitches know something I should know?

Isn't there a thread for that?

@  Nevermore : (21 September 2019 - 05:41 AM)

Also, she pronounces her own name "Zuh-see".

@  TM2-Megatron : (20 September 2019 - 03:04 PM)

I think I'd read a while back she was born in Berlin

@  TM2-Megatron : (20 September 2019 - 03:04 PM)

I thought Zazie Beetz was really fantastic in Deadpool 2. Really looking forward to seeing her in Joker.

@  Liege : (20 September 2019 - 12:05 PM)

Any sightings of Ratchet at U.S. Walgreens yet? A couple of stores around me have recently restocked their toy aisles but no Ratchets yet at those ones.

@  Nevermore : (20 September 2019 - 03:54 AM)

You don't even hear a hint of an accent, and she only very rarely chooses some odd wording where she probably wasn't familiar with the more appropriate alternative due to its relative obscurity.

@  Nevermore : (20 September 2019 - 03:41 AM)

Just watched what's possibly the most relaxed interview ever of a German Youtuber interviewing Zazie while walking around Berlin. Turns out she was born in Berlin and spent quite some time in Germany.

@  Nevermore : (20 September 2019 - 03:39 AM)

Actors and actresses I had no idea speak fluent German, part 4.231: Zazie Beetz from Deadpool 2.

@  Benbot : (18 September 2019 - 02:14 PM)

It's too bad it's like this because some of what they're doing with tiny cars is pretty cool, but I'm not willing to sign up for that f-ing hassle.

@  Benbot : (18 September 2019 - 02:13 PM)

At this point I'm trying to decide how much of a markup I'm willing to pay some scalper scum or if I should just say to hell with it.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (18 September 2019 - 02:11 PM)

That is pretty much the constant story with Hot Wheels. Anything you might actually want has most likely been picked clean and marked up.

@  Benbot : (18 September 2019 - 02:02 PM)

I've been watching some Youtube Hot Wheels videos out of boredom and discovered there exists a new car that just came out maybe a month ago that looks just like one I had when I was little, and I've been looking around hoping to get it. Slim picking everywhere, but online there are a slew of sellers asking for 3 and 4x the retail price, plus a hefty shipping markup.

@  Benbot : (18 September 2019 - 01:59 PM)

Oh, that explains the problem I've encountered with finding one little car

@  TheMightyMol... : (18 September 2019 - 01:31 PM)

Oh boy. I work at Target, and literally every single morning, there are two or three guys outside who make a beeline straight to the Hot Wheels.

I've never read the source material and don't know much about it, but I enjoyed the first film quite a bit, and found the second alright

@  Sabrblade : (17 September 2019 - 09:49 PM)

The first movie was definitely not for me. I flat out hated it. Didn't even bother with the sequel.

@  Maruten : (17 September 2019 - 05:02 PM)

I liked the first movie a lot and enjoyed the original volume of the book, and the way they were developed in parallel was really interesting. It all got super extra unpleasant as soon as they went back though. I don't remember really whether the initial sequels are "good" or not, but either way both the second movie and the second run of the book quickly demonstrated that the property sure wasn't for me.

@  Paladin : (17 September 2019 - 04:45 PM)

i have a real hard time offering praise of anything connected to an utter shitstain like Mark Millar.

@  Rycochet : (17 September 2019 - 01:23 PM)

Kick Ass 2 was okay for what it was, a sequel to a film that was okay, just okay. It had a good performance from Nic Cage while the sequel had Jim Carrey who decided he didn't want to promote it after one of america's regularly scheduled massacres.

@  Benbot : (17 September 2019 - 12:20 PM)

Was Kick Ass 2 really that bad? I never got around to seeing it, but after watching the first movie again the other day, I'm thinking about it.

@  Nevermore : (11 September 2019 - 03:20 AM)

Now where did that come from, Bass X0?

Politics and Religion — tools of foul play!

@  TM2-Megatron : (10 September 2019 - 11:10 PM)

If you owe, you're expected to actually pay it at the time you file, before they even process your return

@  TM2-Megatron : (10 September 2019 - 11:10 PM)

If you file electronically, I find you usually get your refund within a couple weeks

@  Nevermore : (10 September 2019 - 06:22 PM)

Well, lucky it took less than two months for me. For a little over 200 Euros.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 September 2019 - 06:11 PM)

Pretty much, yeah. Canada revenue will be all up your ass if you earn less than 200K and owe tax, but your refund is basically "duke nukem forever".

@  Nevermore : (10 September 2019 - 05:34 PM)

Whereas if you overpaid and they have to refund you, they will take their sweet time to let you know.

@  Nevermore : (10 September 2019 - 05:34 PM)

Like, here in Germany, if the tax authority responds to your tax report quickly, you can rest assured they want more money.

@  Nevermore : (10 September 2019 - 05:33 PM)

Do tax authorities in other countries base their time to respond to filed tax reports on whether they owe or are owed as well?

@  wonko the sane? : (10 September 2019 - 11:13 AM)

Check what the requirements are for your cad program, and try to beat them by about 20%, and understand that software requirements have been stable for a few years: not really keeping up with the advancements in hardware. Unless you're doing something SPECIFIC which requires ludicrous amounts of power, just give your self a cushion on hardware and don't bother going whole hog.

unless Tri did something to explicitly push that out of continuity, I still haven't seen 4 through 6.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

So I just finished watching Digimon Fusion on Netflix, and I know Cross Wars had a third season, has there been any announcements on when the final Fusion season will air?

Nope, but the third season is very weak with only a couple of stand out eps, mainly early on in the show as its primary a problem of the weak until the last couple of eps when the plot actually kicks in and ends rather underwelmingly, it could of been a great season but clearly it was rushed into production with no serious thought given to the plot, much like the Appli monsters show was really weak in terms of plot and exection of it, about the best part of season 3 is Yuu's reunion with his partner and a couple of the songs within the show but the plot is almost none existant in that season! Then the same can be said about Appli monsters, what they really lacked was a desent villian to drive the show long term, sure Appli monsters had a villian being mentioned pretty offen but by the time they finally appeared, they were just underwelming and had a poor motivation.

Pretty sure the ship has long since sailed on ever getting a dub of that.

Tri. pretty much took over any chance of the third portion of Xros Wars getting dubbed.

That coupled with the (rather frustrating) dub of Fusion not being all that successful.

To be honest, Nick and whoever is working with them seem to be dragging their heels when it comes to doing anime.

Everything's been exiled to Nicktoons, new episodes only come out in fits and spurts (such that we're *years* behind Japan when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh), and when they do come out we can expect things to be a total hash.

In hindsight, the fact that they tried to have the new episodes debut on Sunday mornings should have said how little confidence they had in everything, as "Sunday morning cartoons" is a ship that sailed a long, long time ago.

Farewell Message from Producer Seki Hiromi to Toshiko Fujita

Some interesting memories...

fujita_december28_2018.jpg

Late last year Toshiko Fujita, the original voice of Taichi in Digimon Adventure, passed away. There were numerous short messages from people who had known her throughout her long career, along with their memories, and occasionally photos.

With a bit of time having passed, and it being the official start to spring in Japan, Seki Hiromi, the Digimon anime's original producer, wrote a farewell message to Fujita, which she is sharing with the fans. It was posted to the Digimon Adventure website, which doesn't have direct page linking, but was also posted in image form to the Digimon Adventure 20th Twitter.

The message is to the fans, other Digimon staff members, and Fujita herself, and includes thoughts, memories, and even revealing a recent production secret that many have guessed at.

sekihiromi_february8_2019.jpg

As last year came to an end, the voice of Taichi Yagami in Digimon Adventure, Toshiko Fujita-san passed away. On the 49th day of her death, and the beginning of spring, I would once again like to express my gratitude in this farewell message to her.

I first met Fujita-san in person 35 years ago from now in the recording studio of 'Tabakku'. At that time I was just a desk worker and had went to the studio to deliver some things on an errand. Leaning on the door frame of the recording studio labelled '1 Star' stood a beautiful person. That cool yet beautiful woman was Toshiko Fujita-san, the one that I only knew by voice until now, herself. I remember feeling that she resembles Marlene Dietrich, the beautiful actress, from the classic masterpieces walking through a desert holding high heels in her hands.

When I returned to my office, looking excited and talking fast, a veteran producer asked me, “Was Toko doing well?”

This veteran was Yoshifumi Hatano (now deceased) a producer from the time of "Wolf Boy Ken". The veteran producer who had known Fujita-san since she was 16 years old would lovingly call her by the pet name ‘Toko’. After that, Fujita-san was taught by the producer of Dragon Quest Adventures, Yoshio Takami (now deceased) about the so called skill of ‘kime-uchi’ (targeted casting) actors without taking auditions, through the works produced by our company. This practice of Toei to honor actors who were a part of big series’ like ‘Ikkyu-san’ and many other similiar programs was an embodiment of it’s appeal.

While developing the program ‘Digimon Adventure’, I also conformed to the customs and requested Fujita-san to take the role of the protagonist, Taichi Yagami, through kime-uchi, and while keeping her voice floating in my head, I continued conducting the auditions for the other main cast members.

A few years ago, even the young producers who began ‘Digimon Adventure tri.’ naturally wanted her voice as well. However, as she was already struggling with her disease, she declined. Due to the terms set by Fujita-san with her agency, they were not allowed to reveal the name of the disease. In the matters of handling personal information this is indeed the kind of information that needs to be handled most delicately. Nevertheless, the young producers had no choice but to proceed with the project without her.

It was easy to conclude that the change of voice actors would lead to mixed reactions and even if the producers were criticized they would not be able to disclose the information about Fujita-san’s health. ‘I cannot leak the secrets I learned during my work’, this painful side of work that producers experience is something that I have felt and I think I have endured it well. Today, as spring approaches, I took up the brush with the intent of lightening the burden in their hearts.

As she could not help but struggle against the side effects of the medicine, she tried to narrow down the work she took to the kind that she could complete by herself, like narrations or voice recording for games. In a drama where she would be required to interact with everyone, Fujita-san was worried about to whom or how she might end up causing some trouble, and this consideration of hers is what I think captures the essence of a pro’s conscience.

Two years ago on Februrary 1st, 2017, Fujita-san visited us with her manager.

“I apologize for refusing your offer”, she said. “Oh, not at all,” is what I tried to reply with but she continued without missing a beat, “Aren’t the young ones working really hard? I’m looking forward to it all. At Toei, Kitaro gets a new successor time after time so don’t worry too much about it.”

And these are the final words Toshiko Fujita-san spoke to me.

In the lunar calendar, the first day of spring marks the beginning of the new year.

This is not a message of condolence, no I purposefully made this a farewell message to you as you pass on to a new world where you will be reunited with other members of the series who have passed on before you, and maybe even have a ‘kime-uchi’ presence in the new project, or so I would like to hope. Like the student representative in a graduation ceremony, I present this farewell address. The reply, is something that I will listen to carefully through my heart.

The fans, the cast, and everyone who has been a part of Digimon Adventure, let’s engrave Fujita-san’s words in our hearts and move forward.

-Seki Hiromi, wishing everyone luck at the beginning of spring

A very nice message from Seki Hiromi to the fans and Fujita, including sharing a number of memories with us.

Seki Hiromi moved from producer to supervisor at Toei a number of years ago. Despite that, she's produced a number of Digimon audio dramas since then, and will be supervisor for the upcoming 20th Anniversary Digimon Adventure anime.

This would also explain why Taichi was absent from the new audio dramas recorded for the Japanese Blu-Ray boxed set release of Adventure back in 2015.

Tri suffered from someone attempting to make a overly complex plot but sidelined the characters bought in with Zero 2, they pretty much made one large mess as it progressed with a couple of sub plots that don't really make a lot of sense even in the end, they had plenty of time to handle their plot but instead wasted it, I think the biggest waste was the second film where they spent so much time on Joe & Mimi that they forgot their series plot, so Tri was poorly excuted as a series, thou some of the battles do make up for that.
