Are there even enough toys of him to collect?

@  TheMightyMol... : (21 July 2017 - 04:21 PM)

A nerd.

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 04:19 PM)

Speaking of, what do you call someone who collects toys of the Marvel character The Collector?

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 04:18 PM)

What about people who collect the "Die Hard" movies?

@  wonko the sane? : (21 July 2017 - 03:54 PM)

A lot of the die hard collectors don't need to be louder...

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (21 July 2017 - 03:22 PM)

@Nevermore Benbot means "amped" as in excited. I believe the term is shorthand for (a sound) amplifier.

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 03:10 PM)

Or is "shorthand" a synonym for "amputated"?

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2017 - 03:10 PM)

Is "amped" shorthand for "amputated"?

@  Benbot : (21 July 2017 - 12:28 PM)

I am amped! But I also have standards.

@  Fear or Courage : (21 July 2017 - 08:38 AM)

I consider Thew to basically be the model toy collector. We should all aim to be so amped about the thing we collect.

@  Pennpenn : (21 July 2017 - 07:21 AM)

And some people are just whiny jerks who like to complain about stuff and don't realise that, so will invent irrational grievances to fuel that need.

@  Rycochet : (21 July 2017 - 06:13 AM)

A lot of toy collectors don't seem to get that the things the collect are toys.and have unrealistic expectations of what's doable in a modern retail environment. You're not going to get a $100 figure's worth of parts and paint for $20 or less and gimmicks are needed tomake the toys actually, you know, fun.

@  Foffy : (20 July 2017 - 09:40 PM)

Not necessarily. With the right condiments, they can taste surprisingly nice.

@  Evac : (20 July 2017 - 09:37 PM)

I think most toy collectors are bitter in some form.

@  Diecast : (20 July 2017 - 09:37 PM)

...or maybe I'm the bitter one?!  Oh no.

@  Diecast : (20 July 2017 - 09:32 PM)

And I don't even mean that everyone should love it all. But it does seem to bring the angrier ones in from the lurking.

@  Diecast : (20 July 2017 - 09:29 PM)

It's these reveals that always remind me how exceptionally bitter a large portion of toy collectors are on other forums.

@  Sean Whitmore : (20 July 2017 - 07:06 PM)

SDCC toy reveals make adults happy by telling them what they can get eventually. Kids don't care what they can get eventually, you make them happy by getting them whatever's available now.

@  Jalaguy : (20 July 2017 - 06:10 PM)

They exist, they just don't show them at SDCC because they assume that the adult fanbase doesn't care about them.

@  Steevy Maximus : (20 July 2017 - 06:03 PM)

On SDCC stuff...I'm disappointed, but not surprised, at the lack of the actual KIDS toys among all the toys for us old men

The attention to detail with the paint ops makes this a lot more awesome that it would otherwise be.

Yeah, I was turned off at this before, but it looks awesome now. I remember his face being kind of wonky, but here it looks crisp and wonderful. I may be able to justify this now.

I mean...Soundwave!

If I had more that just one tape that turned in to a tape it might be worth in. I think I'm happy with ML Soundwave Classics Overkill Universe Ravage, and Ratbat, and United Rumble and Frenzy.

The Botcon version is said to be pretty damn bad, toy wise. Even if they improved the QC and articulation from that version, the proportions are still awful. Even lacking tape during feature, the Music Label one is far superior.

Seems like they have a lot of them to go around, but I'm really wanting to hear the reviews on the regular release version of this before I bite. I'm hoping the bad review was just due to it being a slightly unfinished preview version that was available at Botcon. I can deal with the proportions and the leg articulation being less than ideal, because I do really like the way he looks otherwise, but I can't deal with bad joint tolerances and quality control on top of those things.

I really want to like him, because Music Label Soundwave is super boring.

I would have been interested, but besides the terrible proportions, and that part sticking out from his back, the flimsiness and backwards knees kinda kill it for me.

It's a shame too, doing some alterations to the transformation, and sacrifice some altmode accuracy, and he could have been great.

I'm astonished at the attention to details.
I'm seriously tempted to get it, he looks to be about the same price as ML Soundwaves last time I checked... except he's way more exciting.

That said, I am hoping some reviews surface to help me decide.

You're far too young to be this bitter and angry at the world....

I'm reading that with Roy's voice. Heck, I read everything you post in a laconic Irish accent.

He doesn't have backwards knees. The joints in his thigh are transformation joints, the proper knee joint is further down.

As far as proportions go, they're not ideal, but that's what happens when three-dimensional physicality interacts with a blatantly cheaty design. And really, he's not all that far off from Device Label Blaster, and people give him a pass for whatever reason.

Oh he does? Guess that reviewer on /toy/ never figured it out.

Blaster's proportions still look a bit better, maybe because the bulk seems more solid.

Still waiting for the day when we can get a truly definitive Soundwave toy. I love the Generations figure, just he doesn't have the gimmick. And then there's Cybertron, which had the gimmick, and was damn near perfect, except those damn legs.

I heard from people who handled one at Botcon that it was kind of a floppy piece of crap and felt pretty cheap for the price being asked. Can anyone corroborate/refute that?

Seems they could have engineered the thigh closer to the knee, and then fold the lower leg in half to give more bulk. It would also keep the lower legs from looking so wide and thin. Other than that I like it.
How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
