So I've discovered since really diving into the Black Library, there are two types of books.
The first is just pure, licensed entertainment value. They're by no means award winning novels, but they are enjoyable experiences.
The second are insidious marketing tools designed to make you crave their peddled plastic in ways that are frightening upon introspection.
In the case of the former, Apocalypse by Josh Reynolds under the Space Marines Conquests sub-line, is a great fun read all on its own.
In the case of the later, The Watchers of the Throne is making my palms itch for a Custodes/Sisters of Silence army.
It's easy to tell the bolterporn from the quality. If it's by Chris Wraight, Dan Abnett, or ADB just read it. Goto's not around anymore but he's the go-to trash author. That's probably Gav Thorpe now.

Not really. The Grey Knights are there but not what I'd call characters, and Guilliman's Guilliman. Don't get me wrong, I like Guilliman but as a narrative focal point not as a "BUY OUR MODELS" kind of deal.

Of the books I've read since returning to the hobby in July, I'd say Justin D Hill is pretty low on that totem pole. Cadia Stands was an absolute mess of a novel, with characters popping up and dropping out of the narrative left, right, and center and entire chapters that mean less than nothing to the overall narrative. Also apparently the main character of the book doesn't even show up until halfway through it while the character we start the book with is relegated to a cameo appearance at the end.

But you should have a full collection. Like this...

Guess who's back...back again...
The Old World's back.
Tell a friend.
Not super surprising given Total War: Warhammer and Vermintide making the setting more popular then ever, but Games Workshop is returning to the Warhammer Fantasy Battle roots with Warhammer: The Old World, making it akin to the Horus Heresy for 40k. Whether that means all new models will be produced by Forgeworld, I have no idea.

So I'm a total newb when it comes to the Tabletop game, so I really hesitate to criticize other players and their strategies. But this? This was a murder.
I just...I don't get the White Scars player's thinking with this one. Why would you rush an entrenched enemy position when the objective is to score as many points as possible? I know the caster remarks on the First Strike point, but throughout this match I just felt like the White Scars player was dumping far too many dice and dedicated attacks onto single shot units.
The Dragons, for example. I don't know Eldar so I'm not sure how big a target they should be, but rather than dump all his Invictius attacks into the squad and waste some of the Repulsor's shots with it, why not offload Khan and have HIM deal with the Dragons with the Invictius and Repulsor running interference?

I'm not sure about LoS rulings, but to me I'd have just pounded the Eldar's position with the Repulsor's weaponry while daring the rest of the army to attack entrenched positions. Maybe swing the Land Speeder around the flank and concentrate most of the weapons on the flier.
But again, that's me armchairing as a total newb.
