@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:58 AM)

Generations Nightbeat never really scratched that itch sadly; he looked okay, but his transformation was fiddly, his robot mode had far too many bits and pieces flopping around unsecured, and his chest dragged along the surface in var mode. =/

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:57 AM)

I second wishing that we got a Deluxe Nightbeat from TR, mostly because as a kid he was second-in-command to my old Powermaster Optimus for the longest time. =P

Wipe Out and Wilder it coulda been: Wipe Out is down in the dumps because the Scramble City Trypticon was destroyed and left him a drifting to the point he arrives in Legends World, he finds Wilder and both go on a crime spree subverted by their realisation neither gets any joy from it until they stop a violent crook together and become anti heroes. I can't disagree. I mean, I really love my Battle Cat. But I can pose the rest of my Origins toys in nearly any way I want. Meanwhile the Battlecat...not so much. Heck, just that simple lunge I have Panthor doing I wouldn't be able to pull off with Battlecat, weight balance notwithstanding.

I've seen them at Walmart, but not Target. It wasn't with the rest of the MotU stuff though. So you may need to do some searching. There were actually empty patches in the toy isle were there was little or nothing on the shelves. These were kinda by themselves.

It's a Mega Construx  thing if that helps any.

The Mega Construx stuff is so great.

Origins Battle Cat is interesting. He's very, VERY nicely articulated compared to the vintage obviously, but just about any MOTU fan will happily rant about how pointless it all is when his footsies are stuck.

I can't stand flocked toys, so I'll be happy enough to eventually pick up the shaved MOTUO Panthor. I'm probably the only person on Earth who's praying for a bald Moss Man.

Is DC still making MotU comics? I'm not so much interested in the crossovers. I already have Origins, main line leading up to Eternity War, Eternity War and Multiverse. Multiverse looks like the most recent thing and that ended last year. I need a fix, durnit!

Unfortunately it seems like they're done. Fingers crossed that there's something new sooner rather than later.

I'd like to see Marvel get the license back, that seems like the only way we'll ever get the Star book back in print.

I just got the mini comic hard cover collection, and it's great. But I was disappointed that there were only 3 Classics comics included as those were the ones I wanted to read the most.

It also made me wish they could collect the old Star comics too. I have a few of the old issues, but it would be great to be able to read them all. The ThunderCats books too!
Again rights issues. According to Spector Creative, the first 3 Classics mini comics were put out with Dark Horse so they were no problem to put out with the collection Dark Horse did. But the rest of the Classics Mini Comics were done by DC, so unfortunately they couldnt be included with the rest

Actually, someone by the name of Wakko apparently did a big fan project pretty recently.  He basically created a entire fan-made Classics Encyclopedia in 17 parts and 855 pages, in the style of all the official He-Man ones released over the years.  It's got the toys, the bios, A LOT of background information, and...yes, it looks like all 8 of the Mini Comics, too.  It's actually really well done, though it's organized by release date for the toys, so it might be hard to find something, if you're looking for one toy specifically...but that's what the index is for.

Not sure if I can link directly to the Google Drive download page or not, but...here's a thread where you can find it, if you are so inclined.  It's a well made piece of fan-work and I'd recommend checking it out if you want a overview of the entire Classics catalogue.  It's all PDFs, which isn't my favorite format, but it'll get the job done.

I got Mer-Man from Amazon today. I suppose I could do a pic of him, but...meh! I'm kinda pic'd out. There is a lot of yellow on his armor and sword though. So if I can think of something to do with it color-wise...we'll see.

EDIT:

Well, I guess I put an idea in my head...

Better lighting and I did a little bit more coloring.

You know, I never ever used to color my toys; no paint, no markers...nothing. But I just can't seem to not color these Origins figures at least a little. Not sure what that says about the stock colors of these things.

Found this for $10. There's a bit of recoloring work to do, particularly on the eyes. Prismacolor markers did nothing for it, to no surprise. I'm probably going to need to get some acrilics to do anything with this. So it may take a while. I'll just call this one the "before" pic. The "after" pic will come...whenever.

eXpl3xm.jpg

Okay, I did have some white acrylic. I was able to use that as a base and then use Prismacolor for the rest of it.

dfELeQh.jpg

Not great. I'm sure just about anyone else can do better. Still, I think it looks better than it did. A little bit cross-eyed...but hey, it's Mantenna.

So, to go along with the Netflix series, MOTU Revelation will also be getting a prequel miniseries...from Dark Horse.  Guess that explains why DC hasn't done anything with them since Masters of the Multiverse.

Seeing these characters in Mike Mignola's style is...a little weird, to be honest. (He's doing a special cover).

Looked like DC's storyline was wrapped up. Don't really mind where the next one comes from: DC, Dark Horse, IDW...long as I get my fix.

I'd rather see the license at DC just because that's where it started. But since Dark Horse has done all the recent artbooks etc it's not surprising to see that they now have the comics as well. I don't really tend to think of Dark Horse these days as a place where great new comic books appear, but I'm sure this will be good - unless the Kevin Smith show is full of terrible crap that drags it down. I'm not worried about that, I'm optimistic, though I'm not a fan of "sees Teela take the reins of a powerful legacy". Presumably that means "replaces the Sorceress" and, like, yawn. As much as I liked it, the new DC continuity was too heavy on "everything is different" and lost a lot of its opportunity to feel like classic MOTU; I'd really rather see Teela just getting to be Teela for a while.

I do understand the sentiment. But like, Transformers went from Marvel to DW to IWD. Turtles went from Mirage to Archie to Image to IDW. G.I. Joe I believe went the same route as Transformers. And that's just comic books.

I guess what I'm saying is, while I do understand the desire to see a company keep a license because "that's where it started," I've just grown too used to properties changing companies. At long as the company the property lands at gives us a certain amount of quality, I'm  usually happy.

Yeah, I don't actually, like, care, but if I was in charge of the licensing and DC wanted it, I'd give it to them. There's a lot to be said for the diversity you get when you pass through different publishers, maybe.

Meanwhile, in Can America Have Castle Grayskull? news, a lot of people who preordered from Walmart have received emails saying the date has been pushed back again to late May, and a lot have had their preorders cancelled because Walmart has figured out that they can't meet the demand. It seems like a faux pas for the store that originally had the whole line locked down for the first year.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for people with preorders at BBTS or elsewhere.

Hope not. But I seem to remember this isn't the first time Walmart has had pre-order faux pas. I just wouldn't trust Walmart in any case. I've never had issues with BBTS.
