@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:48 PM)

Even worse when I can produce those verifiable facts at a later point, and then the other person simply claims the argument was the other way round (as in, I was actually arguing their position and vice versa).

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:47 PM)

I can argue with people about my versus their memory of events when verifiable facts are not readily available, though, and I get really annoyed when I'm capable of presenting a precise, step-by-step summary with multiple key points that can be used for future verification, and the other person just goes "nope, wrong" without going into detail.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:45 PM)

I forget things, and I misremember things. But when presented with verifiable facts, my reaction is more like "Huh, could have sworn it was like that", not "this reality is not my own".

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:43 PM)

I have an extremely good memory (which I have proven time and again), and even I can be mistaken.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (10 August 2020 - 06:40 PM)

Might be worth pointing out that it only became "Mandela Effect" and not just "I remembered this wrong" when a conspiracy theorist insisted it was proof of alternate timelines.

@  Otaku : (10 August 2020 - 06:29 PM)

Incorrectly remembering Nelson Mandela's fate may be uniquely American... but is it really that strange to get South African political history wrong when you're no where near South Africa?

@  Otaku : (10 August 2020 - 06:29 PM)

I always assumed the Mandela Effect was a "human thing", not an American thing.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 August 2020 - 02:03 PM)

Then there are people who outright manufacture memories for whatever reason.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (10 August 2020 - 01:13 PM)

The human brain is so flaky that it is extremely unlikely that a given person does NOT have any false memories.

@  OverDrive73 : (10 August 2020 - 01:05 PM)

Perhaps it's simple word association the movie Sinbad and then our minds apply the same memories to a man named Sinbad.

@  OverDrive73 : (10 August 2020 - 01:04 PM)

The Mandela Effect is the same as people remembering Sinbad in a movie where he played a genie... Of which he never did.

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 09:36 AM)

People that believe Mandela Effect things would rather come up with any number of reasons as to why their version doesn't have any actual evidence(like alternate timelines collapsing into our own) than just admit they remembered something wrong

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 09:35 AM)

Sort of. It's more that when presented with a verifiable fact, they double down because it's what they believe instead of changing their minds

@  ▲ndrusi : (10 August 2020 - 09:25 AM)

"I could have sworn that ______."

@  ▲ndrusi : (10 August 2020 - 09:25 AM)

I'm not arguing with either of those two statements, but they're not really connected. Mandela Effect is, to oversimplify, people being widely mistaken about what they think *is* a verifiable fact. Nothing to do with opinions.

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 08:52 AM)

Pretty sure the Mandela Effect in general is an American thing. Opinion > Verifiable Facts is sadly a pretty American thing

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:27 AM)

Ask these people how Apartheid ended according to their recollection, and I'm sure they'll draw a blank.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:25 AM)

You got two black anti-Apartheid activists who were imprisoned by the oppressive regime. One died, the other was Nelson Mandela. It's not a far stretch that Americans who don't know many details about the history of other countries would mix up the two.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:24 AM)

My own theory is that these people are simply mixing up Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko, another South African anti-Apartheid activist, who did indeed die in police custody in 1977. There was an Oscar-nominated movie about his life starring Denzel Washington that came out in 1987, the same time frame these people claim remembering Mandela dying.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:17 AM)

I met a few people from South Africa, and they either never heard of the phenomenon at all, or only know of it from the internet. Apparently, it's completely unknown in South Africa, and it might even be entirely limited to the United States.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:16 AM)

So does anyone remember the "Mandela Effect"? I'm talking specifically about the original case where many people vividly remember Nelson Mandela dying in prison in the 1980s.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (10 August 2020 - 03:16 AM)

Crisis of Corona.

@  TheMightyMol... : (09 August 2020 - 06:16 PM)

Which crisis crossover are we on now? I lost track.

@  Rycochet : (09 August 2020 - 05:18 PM)

Much of the past decade has been the part of the comic series where less than stellar authors have driven the series into the ground and the editors are getting ready to either do a big multi issue crossover, leading to a reboot.

@  Bass X0 : (09 August 2020 - 02:28 PM)

At this point I've just decided to consider 2020 "not canon."

@  Steevy Maximus : (07 August 2020 - 08:28 PM)

@Bass X0, yeah, the Joe comic got REALLY solid in the upper 20s to the Cobra Civil War. It's interesting to see how well the Joe comic has aged relative to the cartoon. Where as I feel the opposite is true of Transformers

@  wonko the sane? : (07 August 2020 - 07:49 AM)

They would get bored fighting each other and instead decide to take an epic cross-country road trip together.

What would happen if Batman were to fight Squirrel Girl?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (04 August 2020 - 09:03 PM)

Unless you count the Mask vs Lobo special, but that's less a duel and more a duet.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (04 August 2020 - 08:52 PM)

My favorite crossover fight was Thor vs Shazam/Captain Marvel. Early in the fight, Thor discovers that Billy Batson needs lightning to transform, and being a god of lightning he simply denies him that.

Yikes at the original Predacon heads. Poor Tantrum looks to have a sticker for a face. Interestingly, it looks like Razorclaw's head might have been planned to transform into Predaking's. Either that, or it's just badly mistransformed.

We've known about Razorclaw's transforming head since Kyde dropped that fact right after the patent was found. Where are you seeing this exactly, though?

Whoa, I never knew that Broadside's alternate character model was based on an alternate version of the *toy*! Always figured it was wildly differing artistic interpretation of the base figure that saw retail.

Hey everyone, I have some interesting information to share with you about the history of this particular catalog. I emailed the eBay seller to let them know about the community effort here as well as the charity drive, since I thought they might like to know about what their catalog sparked. Below is the response I received, which not only expresses their thoughts about all that, but shares some really interesting history about the catalog. Bear in mind it's all on their say-so, but I think it makes a lot of sense given some of the questions raised by this particular catalog, so this is the full email:
QUOTE
Oh WOW! We truly had no idea! Thank you so much for sending us that link and letting us know that the efforts to raise the funds for the catalog turned into such a charitable event to help. That's truly remarkable.

Now, to make it more special we'll tell you a little more about our findings in our research for this catalog. We had shared this with a few people who contacted us for a little back history on it.

We had hung onto it thinking it was something special for that special collector after learning of it's limited printing by Hasbro this particular year. Hasbro was very secretive this particular year because of all the NEW Transformers, G.I.Joe items and the release of JEM, which many thought would have been in this catalog but Hasbro pulled a fast one to keep her undercover until she was showcased at the actual ToyFair in 1986. Hasbro employees we talked to, who worked there during this time, have said that this catalog was only produced in an effort make Mattel think that they had changed their mind not to release JEM, who was direct competition for Barbie, after an undercover employee from Mattel working at Hasbro discovered they were developing JEM. It was this effort by Hasbro to produce this pre toy fari catalog as a 'smoke screen' of sorts that resulted in their showcasing so many rare Transformer and G.I.Joe prototypes. When we showed a couple of Hasbro employees the catalog they went 'Holy Cow. Do yo know why that was actually produced the way it was?' And continued to tell us about JEM and then about how rarely seen the prototypes of Transformers and G.I.Joe were in it because of it.

So, who would have ever thought that JEM would have resulted in the production of these pre toy fair catalogs like this, and given fans a chance to see such rare prototypes for the Transformer and G.I.Joe toylines?

They Hasbro employees we talked to said they were surprised to even see one of these surface because of the very limited number that was produced of them. They focused more on printing a massive number of the actual 1986 Toy Fair catalog to let everyone on earth know about JEM and their launch of the toyline to go along with their cartoon release, etc. They really wanted to smash Barbie, but alas was unsuccessful. icon-screamer.gif But a great effort on Hasbro's part.

We hope your community truly enjoys the catalog, and shares it with everyone.

We are also so happy now to have learned it turned into something that has become so helpful for others. Please thank your community for us and tell them this has truly made our day! Heck our year! icon-hotrod.gif

And as for the hotlinking, Seibertron isn't new to the game. They know damn well that it is a common courtesy to host the images on their own, rather than soak up the bandwidth of the wiki.

I'd still rather PM and give them a chance to take it down first, then only "retaliate" if they don't. Especially since the whole reason it was newsed in the first place was because I made an announcement post hoping they would to promote the matter. Especially since the moderator in question, you know, donated some of his own money to the charity, too.

But whatever, I guess. Sorry for preferring to take the polite route first before escalating. Guess that'll learn me. icon-primal.gif

The polite way would have been the appropriate way to go as well as someone contacting myself, the site's owner. The Allspark's owner is a really nice guy and I would never dare dream doing that to him or to any other site owner.

I'm sorry if hotlinking an image from tfwiki caused anyone server issues. It is frustrating as a website owner that some website's don't want you to take their images while other sites don't want you to hotlink their images. While I understand the frustration of what happens when images are hotlinked back at least 5 years ago, most server companies have either lifted bandwidth restrictions or they now provide you with at least 3,000 to 5,000+ GB of bandwidth that's a non-issue. I have a few suggestions that might help the owner of tfwiki.net regarding bandwidth issues if they would contact me. As you can imagine, bandwidth issues have been no stranger to Seibertron.com over the past 10 years.

I have sent a message to Walky asking for him to contact me to work things out so that this situation can be avoided in the future. No ill will was intended by posting the images in our news section. Swapping an image out with an image that contains offensive and inappropriate language is not right nor is it fair to people on Seibertron.com, especially when someone should've contacted myself or the entire staff via the "Contact Us" form on Seibertron.com or sent an email to [email protected] or [email protected]

Edit: Walky contacted me and apologized. I provided him with some code to prevent hotlinking images in the future via an htaccess file. Hopefully they'll update their htaccess file so that bandwidth concerns like this won't be an issue for them in the future.

What transpired with the Hot-Linking was between Seibertron and TFWiki. It has now been resolved by those who were affected by it and we will no longer host anymore comments in this thread relating to it. It does not involve the Allspark.com nor should ongoing conversation sully the great joint effort of all of us and the various websites who participated in this Toyfair book purchase or the much larger Charity drive.

I always thought it loked like Magnus was originally meant to be leader (it actually calls him that here), but they made Rodimus Prime as a last minute change so that the movie could be more like Star Wars with a teenage protaganist that deveops into a leader.

I wonder why they didn't think to just make Ultra Magnus an upgrade for Prime so kids would want the new version? Perhaps they thought kids would only want one toy of each character.
