SEND THE BOOKS!!

@  Cybersnark : (20 May 2019 - 08:52 AM)

So, now that Game of Thrones is over, when can we get back to The Dragon Prince?

@  unluckiness : (20 May 2019 - 12:19 AM)

Like, half of them nowadays are montages of tweet screencaps from the writer's inbox

@  unluckiness : (20 May 2019 - 12:18 AM)

lol you expected integrity from internet news

@  fourteenwings : (19 May 2019 - 11:33 PM)

I'm mostly confused how news sites went from "Analysing all the amazingness of Game of Thrones" to "Fans sure don't like this season!", like... way to prioritize clicks over a solid editorial opinion

@  fourteenwings : (19 May 2019 - 11:30 PM)

[and there's a recurring setting of a "derelict industrial site"] is this like the Toei Quarry?

@  MEDdMI : (19 May 2019 - 11:17 PM)

@Foffy and then that giant lasagna just tipped over and killed everyone, to be later known as the infamous Bad Monday event.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 May 2019 - 10:59 PM)

Ahahaha!!! Go read the reactions for yourself. To say anything more here risks spoiling the finale for subscribing Allsparkers, the quality of this season notwithstanding.

@  Foffy : (19 May 2019 - 10:59 PM)

pretty wild how heathcliff was in the game of thrones finale, i was not expecting that crossover

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 May 2019 - 10:48 PM)

were they still super pissed?

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 May 2019 - 10:48 PM)

Well, as someone who is not into Game of Thrones, it sure was entertaining to open up social media this evening to unexpectedly see headlines about fan reactions to the finale. Lmao.

@  Nevermore : (19 May 2019 - 06:12 PM)

But it's also a SUPER-well known location in my region, so these extensive exterior shots without any post production alterations completely ruin the illusion for me.

@  Nevermore : (19 May 2019 - 06:11 PM)

I mean, I get why they did it: It's an existing location that fits the purpose, it's open for the public, and they had to shoot some scenes in my home state anyway to due a subsidizing deal.

@  Nevermore : (19 May 2019 - 06:09 PM)

Needless to say, it's not in Berlin, and even what's seen onscreen is waaaaay too modern for something that's supposed to exist in 1929 (even moreso as a derelict site in 1929). The structures seen haven't even been built until the 1960s!

@  Nevermore : (19 May 2019 - 06:07 PM)

I'm currently in the process of watching season 2 of Babylon Berlin, and there's a recurring setting of a "derelict industrial site" or whatever it's supposed to be on the show, and I easily recognize it as a place only a few minutes from where I live (it's actually a former ironworks site that's been turned into a public park).

@  Xellos : (19 May 2019 - 05:52 PM)

Ever since I went to Japan last year, I have friend who dread watching anime with me due to that...

@  Xellos : (19 May 2019 - 05:51 PM)

Not hugely, but I am the type to notice places once I have been there and say "Hey, I've been there!"

@  wonko the sane? : (19 May 2019 - 05:50 PM)

Half of new york city (on tape.) is actually montreal.

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 May 2019 - 05:50 PM)

I watched Death Wish 5 last night and clearly recognized Toronto streets; didn't pull me out of Bronson's 1-man war on drugs or fashion or whatever it was that pissed him off that time

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 May 2019 - 05:49 PM)

it's nice to finally be thought of as exotic by somebody! lol

@  Nevermore : (19 May 2019 - 05:48 PM)

In an "I cannot possibly make my brain ignore the location I'm familiar with and pretend it's whatever the story claims it is" way?

@  Nevermore : (19 May 2019 - 05:42 PM)

Question for those of you living in exotic locations such as the US or the UK: If you watch a movie or a TV show that features a real-life location as a stand-in for someplace else, and you recognize the real-life location due to having been there in person, does that pull you out of the story?

@  Xellos : (19 May 2019 - 05:15 PM)

Maybe you should have installed macOS in your house instead.

@  Noideaforaname : (19 May 2019 - 04:40 PM)

Nothing like coming home after a long day to find a bird in the house. And then once you sit down for a well-earned rest after leading the bird back outside, you find it had a friend. A friend who *really* doesn't understand how windows work...

@  PlutoniumBoss : (19 May 2019 - 01:26 PM)

Bingo. The big polls don't tell people what's actually happening because that doesn't sell.

@  fourteenwings : (19 May 2019 - 10:59 AM)

IIRC there are good polls but data is easily manipulated so they give people what they want to hear

@  wonko the sane? : (19 May 2019 - 10:58 AM)

The only way to get people interested in politics is to make into reality TV. So they lie to do it.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (19 May 2019 - 01:38 AM)

Yeah, polling these days is garbage.

@  Sean Whitmore : (18 May 2019 - 11:53 PM)

@  Pennpenn : (18 May 2019 - 06:08 AM)

I'm going through another around of Final Fantasy Tactics, in this case War of the Lions on PSP. And in thinking about it, I've never gotten the Ultima spell. Something about my luck I guess, but I've never been able to get anyone to nuke Ramza so he learns the spell. I think I'll make that one of my primary goals this time through.

But it's kind of funny how they'll always cast it while he's out of range, never targets him, and the battles where you learn the spell tend to be tricky anyway, so maneuvering things so he gets hit can even be a pain in the ass. That, and they use the spell like it's made of solid gold, I.E. almost never, bastards...

Still, I love this game. So easy to burn hours on the sheer character customization options.

I've never played Tactics, but I've lost so many hours on Tactics Advance and Advance II that I actually blew out the game timer on Advance.

It got me through many jivey work days at the Payless DC on my SP.

I played the hell out of FFT:Advance. My first game save hit 140 hours and my second time through was at about 70 or so hours. So, it's odd that despite my love of FFT:Advance, I've never been able to get into the original FFT (or the PSP remake). Every time I try to start playing them I lose interest by the third or fourth cutscene. :/

i *LOVE* FF tactics. one of my favorite games ever. i still have my psx copy. ( its pretty much the only reason i still have a ps2. )

ive never managed to learn the spell either. but i have spent countless hours building my characters up, doing random battles, turning my fighters into tiny gods.

ah.. so much fun.

on the flip side i never really liked the tactics advanced games :/

No way. With all the translation issues and story mistakes the english version includes, it's far from the best. Were it a decent translation, I'd sort of agree, but it isn't.

FF9 all the way. Were the FFT trans. better, it'd be a tie between those two.

I hated FF Tactics on PS. So boring. I've never been into that style of RPG.

Now, I'm enjoying FFXII a lot right now...

12 is great and is a sequel of sorts to tactics

I've grown up with Squaresoft... I expect a little Engrish in my Finar Fantasy

Yeah I have XII and have tried hard to like it, but dear god, it's just completely hugging dreary.

I still haven't picked it back up.

IX though, is still the greatest FF of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Tactics was amazing. Once I got Cloud and leveled him up to my normal party levels, everything was gravy. I got Ultima cast on me and learned the spell completely by accident, so can't help there.

Different strokes.

I still hate 8 with an unbridled passion. I find none of the characters interesting. Except for Ward, cause he really didn't talk much.

Irvine sucked, I agree.

But goddammit, WARD uses an ANCHOR. And he never speaks so he doesn't ruin his character.

My guess is by actually having taste, and not liking emo characters that have little to no personality?

That might just be it.

Squall wasn't emo. He was a normal, pragmatic and average guy who didn't like dealing with people. Not to mention character growth. He went from brooding loner to leader. He even gave an inspiring speech. He may internally complain and pick apart people's arguments, but he doesn't hesitate to do the right thing.

Selphie wasn't emo. She was a hyper little dynamo who said ditzy things and occasionally creepy things. She was outwardly outgoing but internally wracked by the pain of losing her loved ones from her home. But she was strong-willed enough to bury it for the good of her teammates. She can also play the electric guitar.

Rinoa wasn't emo. She's fiesty, aggressive, and full of compassion. Her existence pisses Squall off majorly. But opposites attract and they fall in love. She's also badarse enough to drag the brooding Squall out on the dancefloor.

Zell wasn't emo. He's a hilarious bruiser. He loves hot dogs and beating people up. He's got a stupid grin and he's sensitive about his height. His love interest is an unnamed girl in the library in a subtle relationship.

They all have personality, you just couldn't be arsed to look for it?

PM me if you're bored!

eh, i didnt like 8 either.

my wife is one of the few people i know that did... i dont know, 7 and 9 had fun, memorable characters. my wife accuses me of only liking them because they were more 'cartoony' then realistic, but.. i dont know, i didnt *like* any of the characters in 8. i played the game at least half way through, twice.. and just never connected with any of them.

i guess i expect a little more 'fantasy' in my final fantasy games. i dont want characters that are just more or less normal people, its the same reason i dont like any of the characters from the newer games.

the next one thats coming out looks terrible to me for this reason, the characters look so bland... but, my wife is excited about it, ill give it a shot..

Maybe it's because we're both women or something. Call me shallow, but I have a much easier time relating to characters in JRPGs then my male friends.
