Question for people who know stuff about comics and things...

Then Galenraff (him of the Allspark) says I should read Watchmen and I say no because i'm not really into comics, but he gets me it and it's REALLY awesome.
And so since then I've read more comics, but not much. I got some more Batman (Dark Victory), read some Y: Last Man, The Dark Tower, lots of Alan Moore...
Anyway, point is, I still don't know much about the comic world. But after seeing Dark Knight I recommended my wife read Long Halloween. She did and really liked it. But her superhero of choice has always been Superman. So she wanted to know if there was a comic book for Superman, but in the same style as Long Halloween. Less 'comicy' and more 'dark and realistic'.
So... after all that, my question is- is there? Any recommendations?

I actually read Death of Superman and really, really disliked it. It seemed like 60 or so pages of fighting and then Superman dies, with no real plot. Is Return any better?

You will love it.
But in the current, digitized world, trivial information is accumulating every second, preserved in all its triteness. Never fading, always accessible. Rumors about petty issues, misinterpretations, slander... All this junk data preserved in an unfiltered state, growing at an alarming rate. It will only slow down social progress, reduce the rate of evolution. You seem to think that our plan is one of censorship. What we propose to do is not to control content, but to create context.

Superman: Red Son is an interesting read, and I also really liked TDKR's take on Superman.

Superman For All Seasons
Superman: Death and Return of Superman
Superman: President Lex
Superman: Our Worlds At War
Superman: Red Son
Those are the ones I would pick up...

But please, do not go looking for a "dark and realistic" Superman book. Superman is not dark (that's sorta the point); plus he can fly, shoot lasers out of his eyes, and breath in space. Not so realistic -- he's a fantasy character.
