Okay, that actually sounds pretty fun.

@  Maximus Ambus : (15 November 2019 - 12:49 PM)

It was set in the forties, featured Nazi's as the villains and had Kiko fight mostly Ice Age animals and a mythical dragon that now ruled the island guarding Kongs treasure.

@  Paladin : (15 November 2019 - 11:37 AM)

and it was ALSO eleven hours long.

In a alternate reality Peter Jackson made Son of Kong.

To be fair to boba: everyone else to go into the sarlacc was a sacrifice. Stripped almost naked and tossed, and didn't have body armor, a jetpack and a weapon.

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 November 2019 - 06:54 AM)

Nah, he just has to keep up his plot insurance payments so he can shoot his way out of the Sarlacc again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (15 November 2019 - 02:59 AM)

Funny, but everyone knows he bounty hunts for Jabba Hutt to finance his 'Vette.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (15 November 2019 - 02:54 AM)

Okay.. Not sure why.. but streaming is harder than jsut playing the game.. even though that's pretty much what I was doing.

What type of vehicle does Boba Fett use for time travel? A Man-DeLorean.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 03:55 PM)

Admittedly, it's been a long time since I've been to a walk-in clinic, as I tend not to get sick (and the one time I do every 4-5 years, I prefer just riding it out at home), but the last time I went I'm pretty sure you could just show up, no appointment. It may be different in Quebec, though

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:36 PM)

One thing to note about health insurance in Germany is that we have a two-class system: mandatory health insurance is basically the economy class, while private health insurance is the business class.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:32 PM)

My local doctor is actually a shared office with several doctors where you will get randomly assigned to one of the doctors available that day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:30 PM)

Also, employers are required by law to cover part of their employees' health insurance fees, so I only have to pay my part.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:28 PM)

Basic examinations and sick notes (known as "work-inability certificates" in Germany) for the employer are covered by our health insurances by default.

@  TheMightyMol... : (14 November 2019 - 12:02 PM)

Around here, we can go to a walk-in clinic whenever, but might have to wait in the queue until there's a doctor available, which can take hours on a busy day. And then hope our insurance will cover anything.

@  wonko the sane? : (14 November 2019 - 07:38 AM)

There actually are a good number of clinics around here: but the walk ins require an appointment (what?) and are only done once a week. IF you can get an appointment, you see a doctor usually within 40 minutes, but good luck getting the appointment.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

Depending on the day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

We have family doctors (called "house doctors") with regular office hours where you may need an hour or two of waiting time.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 12:50 AM)

Two weeks? That seems a little long; are there not a lot of walk-in clinics around you?

@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 07:01 PM)

Does germany make it quick and easy to see a doctor too? Cause an emergency doctor visit can take two weeks out here, and an emergency ROOM visit can take 18-24 hours.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:43 PM)

(Good thing is, under German law, if you call in sick during your vacation and see a doctor immediately, you get to keep your vacation days.)

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:42 PM)

Too bad. My plans wee to do two more overtime hours before having my last day of vacation for the year on Friday. Oh well.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:41 PM)

So I'm currently on medical leave for a particularly stupid reason: Burned my back with a hot-water bag while sleeping last night. Though the doctor said I'm hardly the first person to have this happen to them.

@  Patch : (13 November 2019 - 06:11 PM)

Just a particularly odious example of the 90s era of depicting transgender women as either the subject of crude humor, or "Jerry Springer" material.

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 10:45 AM)

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:37 AM)

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:35 AM)

Even if we pretend it's objective truth that they were both bad, then they were bad in very different ways.

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:33 AM)

Sonic's previous movie design looked genuinely bad. The Transformers '07 designs just looked insufficiently like what certain loud and obnoxious parts of the fandom think Transformers are required to always look like.

@  TheMightyMol... : (13 November 2019 - 08:25 AM)

Do we really need to have Every Movie Transformer Thread Ever in the Squawkbox?

@  Bass X0 : (13 November 2019 - 08:13 AM)

Sure it made money but that doesn’t mean it has appealing character designs. Lot of god awful fugly faces in the Transformers movies.

@  Otaku : (12 November 2019 - 08:25 PM)

@Liege My issue with Transformers (2007) were elements I thought were unnecessary.  I know it was supposed to just be a joke, but I didn't ever need to hear about "Sam's Happy Time". >.> Which, being in awe of the first "live action" TF-film, didn't even register until I'd already purchased and watched it on DVD a few times (after seeing it in theaters 3 times).

@  Liege : (12 November 2019 - 08:22 PM)

For all the Bayisms in the 07 movie, it was tempered by Spielberg as producer. Designs aside it was an enjoyable popcorn blockbuster about a boy and his first car who happens to be an alien from another planet. They sequels are just Bay going unchecked after he proved how much bank he could bring in.

@  TM2-Megatron : (12 November 2019 - 07:12 PM)

I didn't find the designs in the '07 movie to be that bad, personally. What got really offputting was how Cybertronians in general become such huge a-holes in the later films; the designs were very much secondary to their horrible personalities

@  Sabrblade : (12 November 2019 - 06:59 PM)

And yet, Transformers still broke the bank at the box office, opened up the brand to a whole new generation of fans, shot the brand up to mainstream appeal, and enabled all kinds of new collector-oriented lines and other avenues to come about. Not saying Sonic's movie will do the same for his series, but the 2007 TF movie certainly did more good than harm.

@  Bass X0 : (12 November 2019 - 06:09 PM)

Paramount changed Sonic due to fan backlash but refused to redo Transformers 2007 with new cgi appearances based on their classic forms everyone’s knows and loves, and can relate to. Trailer 1 Sonic is as appealing a design as 2007 Bumblebee...

@  TheMightyMol... : (12 November 2019 - 02:14 PM)

I don't. They're a pain in the ass to repair.

@  Benbot : (12 November 2019 - 12:48 PM)

Wear a hazmat suit. It's Walmart, they're used to weird.

2 inches of snow on the side of the house, 2 feet of snow on the deck. I hate this winter already.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (11 November 2019 - 11:33 PM)

But that requires actually going IN walmart. ;P

@  Liege : (11 November 2019 - 11:22 PM)

Pro tip for anyone hunting the for the Walmart 35th exclusives: try the seasonal aisles rather than the toy section. I found the display with all the exclusives and a bunch of the reflector wave practically untouched amongst those novelty arcade machines and a bunch of frozen merch.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (11 November 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Although that does spark an idea for me. In a new continuity, Censere the Necrobot could be the herald Cityspeaker for Quintessa the Necrotitan just to play on their monikers utilizing Greek for dead, nekrós.

I hate to burst your bubble, Maximus Ambus, but 90% of things said in IDW turned out to be amnesiac half-rememberings courtesy of Adaptus or outright lies courtesy of Shockwave.

So I know a lot of you have both Guitar Hero III and Rock Band for the Xbox 360, and I could use a little advice. I'll be the proud owner of the wireless GH3 bundle and the game-only Rock Band in a week or so. Now I want to get a second guitar, and I'm thinking of going with another GH3 guitar so I can do two-player on both games (or three on RB, counting vocals), since I understand the RB guitars don't work with GH3.

My question is, am I losing any important features by using GH3 guitars on Rock Band? Is there anything about the RB guitars that makes them work better with RB than the GH3 guitars do? I know they've got extra buttons high up on the neck, but I think I heard they're not actually necessary. I've also heard they're more prone to breakage, and they're not wireless, and they don't work with both games... just want to make sure there's nothing I'm missing out on by going this route.

I love the Rock Band guitar. LOVE. So much better than the GH3 controller.
The extra buttons aren't needed, but make things easier, and the regular
buttons feel so much better under finger that it's just not funny. Get your
hands on one to see what you think...
Yep.

I've played both (Rock Band at a friend's house, GH3 in a store), but they were a couple months apart... so a scientific comparison wasn't really possible.

I do much prefer the look of the RB controllers. They look just like a tiny clone of my real guitar, which is fun. icon-hotrod.gif

They won't work in GH3, though, right? That really does mean they've got to be a LOT better in my book, to overcome that downside...

You won't need a Rock Band guitar to work for GH3 because GH3 isn't worth buying.
Mind you I've been a Guitar Hero WHORE since the first day of the original but I really do NOT like GH3. I can't see any reason to pull that disc out ever again.
Yes, I'm bitter.
Get a Rock Band guitar simply because you'll get a lot more play out of that game in the end.

Hmm... looks like the standalone Rock Band guitars are wireless... that's one "con" I can take off the list.

I've never used the Rock Band guitar, but the fret buttons at the bottom of the neck can be used during a solo and you don't have to strum. I'm not sure if that is 100% correct, but that is what the tutorial seemed to say.

Yep that's correct. I agree with the majority here. The RB guitar is years ahead of the GH model.

I haven't used a Guitar Hero guitar voluntarily since I got my Rock Band guitar. Scale's better, button spacing is better, strum bar is better (though subjective--I know some people who prefer the Guitar Hero one), and it's got more nifty features on it.

The only reason to pick up a Guitar Hero controller over a Rock Band one is if you intend to play a lot of Guitar Hero multiplayer with people who don't have their own Guitar Hero controllers. For me, that's probably never happening.

Thanks for all the feedback! Gotta say, I was honestly expecting a lot of either "eh, they're about the same" or "the RB guitar breaks too much" responses. Guess it's good that I asked, even if it messes with my plan a bit. icon-hotrod.gif

Regarding GH3, I was just trying to get the best standalone guitar currently available, and figured GH3 itself was a "bonus." I mean, if I'm going to have guitar controllers, I may as well be able to use them with more than one game, right? But you're all probably correct--Rock Band's where it's at, so I'd rather have at least one of the best controllers for that game, even if it limits me to one-player on GH games.

So, new plan: I'll find a way to trade in the GH3 game itself for GH2 when it arrives (I already liked 2's tracklist better, and had heard many similar complaints that 2 was better in general, I just wanted the new guitar), use the GH3 guitar with GH2 and Rock Band for a few weeks, and get the wireless standalone Rock Band guitar when it comes out in April--which will hopefully have fewer QA problems than the bundled release. Then the GH3 guitar moves to occasional second- or third-player use.

Just get a Rock Band one. GHIII sucks compared to Rock Band. And the RB one has better features, period.

I haven't opened the Guitar Hero case since I got Rock Band.

I get it, I get it, thank you. icon-hotrod.gif

Actually, thinking about it more, what I might do is just send the whole GHIII bundle right back to Amazon when it gets here, which'd net me enough credit for a wireless Rock Band guitar come April along with a $40 profit. Then I just won't mess around with the Guitar Hero series at all. I don't think I'll miss too much. And this was all from one of those "freebie" sites (which we're not supposed to discuss publicly here, so I won't), so it's not like I'm out any cash.

Only minor problem there is that Rock Band will be karaoke-only for a few weeks, but hey, I waited this long, right?

Get the RB one... it's got the added features for a reason and it feels alot sturdier than the Guitar Hero Guitars.

Fiiiiinally got my Guitar Hero III bundle in the mail... and now it's going right back to Amazon, thanks to you people. icon-arcee.gif

I played the demos of RB and GHIII at Best Buy a week or so ago, and I think you're all right--the RB guitar does just feel better. Easier to switch between frets, larger, heavier, better-looking, and with those smaller high-neck buttons that might make it easier to convince my wife to play. And since it took so long for GHIII to arrive... heck, the standalone guitars are out in just two weeks, I can wait. Wish I'd done more research before placing the orders, though, so I wouldn't have to deal with shipping stuff back. Ah well.

Anyway, I'm doing the Solo Vocal Tour in Rock Band for now, and that'll hold me. Especially since I haven't even heard of some of these higher-tier songs.... I rock a mean Creep, though.

It's the PlaySkool buttons on the Guitar Hero controller that makes all
the difference to me. Having less space between then, a better touch
feel and that little lip that gives you a slight grip just makes the Rock
Band controller the perfect next iteration and oh so much better.
Yep.

So here's an update, for anyone in the same boat as I was.

Like I said I would, I got a RB wireless guitar when it came out, so I've been playing with it for a couple of months. I needed a second guitar before mid-July, as we're planning a Rock Band party, so last week I decided to go ahead and (re)purchase GHIII from Amazon. I figured it'd be nice to have the choice, and it was only $50 for the bundle ($10 cheaper than just the RB guitar alone!), and I had a bunch of Amazon credit anyway.

So here's what I've found in a couple of months of the Strat vs. a few days of the Les Paul: They both have pretty strong advantages and disadvantages, and I honestly don't know if one's really overall better than the other.

The Strat has great buttons. It looks and feels like a real guitar, something that's a great advantage to me, since I play real guitars. It's immediately comfortable to pick up and play, from the frets to the whammy bar. The extra lip on the strummer is nice as well. The extra neck buttons are great for the big rock endings.

BUT... the strummer feels consistently imprecise. I can never get all the notes in fast sections, whether I strum down, or alternate up and down strokes. They just don't all register. That makes it really difficult to do well on Hard, and I can't imagine Expert. Also, overdrive can on occasion be a little slow to respond, though I don't have as much trouble with that as others have reported. The effects switch sometimes gets in my way (as it does on my real Fender guitar), and isn't really necessary.

The Les Paul is great for fast sections in songs. Songs like Go With The Flow really sucked on the Strat on Hard, but are easily conquerable with the Les Paul. Every note registers, the strummer snaps nicely, and the mild clicking (which I was expecting to be noisy from reviews) is really just like the click of a pick against steel strings. Overdrive triggers with just a flick of the wrist.

BUT... it looks ridiculous, the buttons are awful, the neck is terribly thick, and it doesn't have the handy neck buttons. My fingers are constantly getting lost on the buttons and the spaces between them. I miss the raised frets of the Strat. The whammy bar is weirdly straight, and difficult to use.

So... yeah. Pretty much what I'd love is a guitar with the Strat's look, neck and whammy bar, and the Les Paul's strummer and overdrive system. Unfortunately, it doesn't exist yet. The GH:WT guitar looks to have the same crappy buttons and whammy as the Les Paul, and we don't know yet what RB2 will bring. I think it's the one most likely to improve. For now... I guess I'm glad I have the option, both are decent controllers in their own ways, and I just wish it were a little easier to swap instruments in-game for different songs on the world tour.

That's pretty much how I feel about the two guitars. I love playing the Les Paul but my left hand gets so cramped because of the thick neck and it's hard to play for extended periods of time. I've been using the wireless Strat since I got it and it's been working great but the strummer just annoys the hell out of me due to its muddiness.

The rockband guitar is horrible. The extra buttons are useless, its uncomfortable to hold, and looks like a cheap kids toy. The GH3 is wireless, and the buttons feel alot better.

The extra buttons can be quite useful, if you know how to use them.

I can't comment on your discomfort, as we have different hands. I will say that the RB guitar being shaped like a real guitar neck makes it infinitely more comfortable for me to hold. The thick, overly rounded Les Paul hurts my hand after a while.

Uh... dunno how you can argue that the Les Paul actually looks less like a toy than the Strat. I mean... wow, that's just a new one on me.

Finally, the Strat now comes in a wireless model, which is what I have.

They both look like toys, but the strat looks like a poorly made toy.
