I thought it would be nice to share a bit of concept art for the series by Ken Henderson, who was Art Director and Lead Designer :
I finished the series. In contrast to most here, I actually think the first season was better than the second, with a more focused and IMO more interesting narrative. Season 2 was basically the same plot twice - Megatron seems to die, comes back to life, tries to ascend to Godhood, dies again, repeat.
Plus I felt Obsidian, Stryka and Botannica - all very interesting character concepts - were pretty wasted and ultimately inconsequential.
Loved the Grand Mal though. I hope thats our next Titan class
There are at least two of us.
Beast Machines is a load of great ideas badly executed. Season 1 has most of the ideas, and all the execution is ahead of it, though it does try to move quickly. Somehow it manages to be repetitive despite all the moving plot threads, but Beast Machines writing is a special thing. But hey, at least it's moving, and it's interesting stuff. There is a reason the very earliest reaction was positive. Every time I rewatch the show I start out wondering why I didn't like it last time. It does get off to a strong start.
I think season 1 burned through all the plot ideas they had for the whole show, so season 2 is just spitballing until it's time to wrap it all up. However debatable season 1 is, at least it has plans for the story ideas it has. Season 2 also has interesting ideas but no plans for them.
