"I was gonna buy some Toyhax labels for Earthrise Auto-Whatsit, but since I'd be disrespecting the artistic expression of the designers, I think I'll just forget the whole thing."

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:41 AM)

Like, in general, not going into specific bands or covers. Because I could point out plenty of repainted toys I didn't like as much as the original, too.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:39 AM)

Is a musician covering a song "fixing" it?

@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

That might actually be a fake noise they make electric cars make so pedestrians can hear them. Some cars even let you pick out what noise they make.

Actually heard a car with that electric, scifi-hum to it. Made me realize that we kinda are living in the future...

Nearly thirty Studio Series figs including the '86 line. "I won't touch that." I said a few years ago when deluxe wave 5 came to my store for a tenner each. My latest one' is 72 Starscream.

@  tigerhawk : (10 May 2021 - 02:56 AM)

The 1988 G1 line up could all have been done as Titan Master things, I figure the Pretenders could be done as Titan Master Drones and Prime Master shells.

I wonder how many tapes equals a Deluxe in the current model.

-ZacWilliam, I would hope 4 but fear 2.

well, Spy Patrol 3 (Frenzy, Wingthing, Knok, and Skar) was sold for 19.99. roughly the price of a deluxe.

so if Blaster is being done as a voyager for Studio Series, the 4 tapes he shot out in the 86 movie (rewind, eject, ramhorn, steeljaw) could be done as a deluxe.

and since they combine into a robot themselves, i could see Grandslam/Raindance, Noize/Graphy, and Dial/Zaur being sold as core class.

also, consider me 100% willing to buy a selects multipack of cassette repaints. Buzzsaw/Blackcat, Howlback/Garboil, Sundor/Glit, Eaglebreast/Tigerbreast could be a good start until we get some of Blaster dudes

I realize that there are enough G1 existent cassettes that we literally never get them all, but at the same time I would KILL for new cassette characters: A second maybe even third robot type for each faction and new animals: a dolphin, a flamingo, an owl, a dragon that sort of thing.

-ZacWilliam, I want just endless new G1 style cassettes.

New characters would be great in general. New characters done in the style of whatever the *generations* line is up to.

Misread your post.

Also Galaxy Shuttle for next titan, dammit! I want a near-scale space shuttle transformer!

Hopefully the retool will be Blast-Off with a CW scaled connector peg. Alt mode scale at last!

Robert is made to withstand plenty of play, and transforms from car to robot! Go, Robert, go!

Why will we solve after Robert grasps the abysmal winter's ulcer? He may change rural tailors, do you join them? The films, tapes, and spoons are all good and fresh.

I'm all in on a Blaster that's the same size as Netflix Soundwave.
Yes, a Blaster that towers over Soundwave is G1 toy accurate but I was introduced to Transformers with G2, long after both toys had been taken off of shelves. My introduction to Blaster and Soundwave was the G1/2 show, where they were roughly the same size. So that's what I'm looking for 🤷‍♂️

Not sure if this really reflects the cost of two tapes vs a core class bot. Buuuut.

Decided to bust out the scale anyway after the discussion here.

I think they'd fit in core class just fine.

The mass of materials is...not really the major factor. You need a parts count, for one. More parts, more assembly, more labor. That's where the costs are now.
