"I was gonna buy some Toyhax labels for Earthrise Auto-Whatsit, but since I'd be disrespecting the artistic expression of the designers, I think I'll just forget the whole thing."

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:41 AM)

Like, in general, not going into specific bands or covers. Because I could point out plenty of repainted toys I didn't like as much as the original, too.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:39 AM)

Is a musician covering a song "fixing" it?

@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

The 1988 G1 line up could all have been done as Titan Master things, I figure the Pretenders could be done as Titan Master Drones and Prime Master shells.

Also, I'm not really the target demo for this show. The Cap movies are the boringest chunk of MCU and Bucky is the most dreadful character, so this was never likely to make me swoon.

I didn't recognize US Agent.  Is he someone we've seen before?

I was happy to see Rhodey make an appearance and I hope it's not just a one-off.  Now I want a War Machine series too.

Is it wrong that I want at least one of Rhodey's suits to have retractable roller-skates? I mean, come on... Don Cheadle on roller-skates.

He's got experience in musical fighting as well, thanks to Iron Man 2 and "Another One Bites The Dust" (the Give Me A Phat Beat To Beat My Buddy's Ass To remix).

I want another Iron Patriot scene where someone makes a Fender Roads/Rhodes joke. SUH, THIS IS HEAVY BIKE

As a huge fan growing up of those comics where the X-men would have a baseball game and chat, or the Avengers would go shopping or have a meal together, and it was not much action but lots of character.

This reminded me of that, and I was very ok with it.

It's a Newcomic (apparently)

Other than a strong distaste for "heroes scrambling for money" plots, I enjoyed the first episode.  The series is taking a lot of its DNA from the Gruenwald run, which is basically when I started reading Cap.

I liked it so far. Really showcases the Falcon's skills.

Yeah I feel like they did a great job of making him more than just "can fly and shoot" but still keeping him below cap or iron man power levels.
I finally got rid of that big white box.

That's very on-point with Marvel though as far back as when Spider-Man was first introduced. Where Peter Parker was the star and Spider-Man was the story. This is why I always liked Marvel over DC (and to some degree over the X-Men which aside from the constant crossovers and cameos as a reminder they are both Marvel properties it always felt like two completely different settings/universes to me).

What what we see with the Falcon is what I consider how comics I grew up on were done.

I don't mind this as a topic, and honestly it's nice that they would confront gray areas like this. It does ground the stories some, and makes some attempt at verisimilitude. I'm not satisfied with how it's addressed here currently, but it's nice that they're not pretending it's not a thing at all.

I'm digging how these shows are diving into how the Snappening really messed with the world, and while reversing it is a feel good moment in Endgame - it came with a whole host of complications on its own. They brought back half the universe, but they didn't adjust the time scale. And five years is a frighteningly long time, People have moved on, gotten remarried, hell had children with new partners.

As for "heroes need money" angle. Both these guys were legally dead for five years. Whatever accounts they had were closed, etc. And they've only canonically been back for six months. In an economy that has already adjusted to not having half the labor force it does.

...crap the longer I think about it the more I realize by undoing the Snap, the Avengers threw the world into a crisis. The Gauntlet really was a Monkey's Paw.

It also helps give the Flagsmashers validity as a terrorist group.  Bringing back several billion people back at once is a huge shift socially, economically and culturally.  And I think for some, the world WAS better, or offered more possibilities without as many people.

It makes sense there would be a pushback in the form of radicals.

If you want a comparison with Wandavision it's that Wandavision did not shy away from exploring grief and this is clearly setting up a more intense study of PTSD. IM:3 tried to do that too, but it got a bit muddied, so we'll see how they do.

In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing where this all goes. If nothing else, this is already shaping up to be another way they can show the shifting of the world's opinions on supers which continues setting the stage for the X-men.

Also, after Chadwick, it continues to scare me how skinny Don Cheadle is.

Yes, I noticed that too. I generally get taken aback by people suddenly looking visibly (is that redundant) thinner when we see them next.

Some excellent dialogue on the Flag-Smashers and their opinion that the 5-year gap was a better time. Sam's right to point out that when things get better for one group, that can be because it's less ideal for another. Sometimes it's progressive thinking reducing the reach or acceptability of old, regressive ideas; sometimes it's suddenly having to share resources (again) with the Other Half.

That would be a neat talking point, not exactly the same as their rhetoric but a sobering thought nonetheless. It's like Luthor having Superman's powers for a day in All-Star Superman: you had five years of "twice" the resources (with half as many mouths) as you normally do. What did you do with it?
