@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:41 AM)

Like, in general, not going into specific bands or covers. Because I could point out plenty of repainted toys I didn't like as much as the original, too.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:39 AM)

Is a musician covering a song "fixing" it?

@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

So this'll be starting up soon so might as well have it's own topic.  Cause after WandaVision, not sure where we'll go from here.

Ironbite-but man, gonna be a fun ride.

This looks like it should be fun. But they will have to have some mighty big surprises to throw at us if they want to be anything other than a stopgap between Wandavision and Loki.

I'd be fine for a simple "fun" series after Wandavision. Sorta like how we had Ant-Man 2 after Infinity War, Something simple and fun as a breather. Nothing at all wrong with that.

I think this will have action and humor and fun, and likely continue some loose threads left over after Endgame. I just hope that I'm able to watch it.

It involves Zemo and we're getting US Agent. I'm sure this show's going to have some emotional weight behind it, especially in lieu of post-Endgame matters.

Oh I already like the chemistry between these two.

That said, I've been conditioned by 40 years worth of cop dramas to find the "mismatched partnership" amusing and that exchange might as well be the opening line of banter from any Law and Order: Endless Parade of Spin-Offs shows prior to finding a body.

I have a feeling the two of them end up getting framed for selling secrets and spend the rest of the series on the run trying to clear their names. This is based mainly on the title similarity between this and The Falcon and the Snowman

It also kinda fits with Zemo's MO from Civil War.

I can see how Flag Smasher and Ultimatum fit into Zemo's plans, but I'm curious as to the role US Agent will ultimately fill.

From what little I've gleamed from the info they've released; it seems that he's the Gov't Replacement for Steve so my guess is he'll likely will be trying to get Cap's shield from Falcon, believing that it is rightfully his.

Oh no, that's the obvious bit. What has me curious is whether or not he's going to ultimately be an antagonist or not. Because US Agent's been both in the comics, and I could see the MCU version going either way - either siding with Zemo against the heroes, or being the 11th hour clutch that sees the heroes secure the win.

That it could literally go either way is a big reason why I'm going to keep an eye on the show, even if I don't end up binging it like WandaVision.

Well that sure was tedious and pedestrian compared to Wandavision. It was fine, it was watchable, I'll happily stick with it, but for my money it seems like it's going to be pretty disposable.

"Boohoo I am sad about US Agent" might be interesting (if nothing else I can take solace in the fact that he was on the West Coast Avengers with Wanda?), and we'll see what Shazza brings to the table, but I don't have hopes for this higher than "noisy popcorn TV", which again, is fine. It doesn't need to be more than that, but I hope it ultimately is.

I found it enjoyable, no big mystery, no 'wtf' is happening. Right now a simple look into what real life looks like for people post-blip, and how Sam and Bucky are coping with what happened both big and small. I didn't expect this to be Wandavision, I don't want it to be Wandavision, we just had Wandavision and FnWS should stand on its own as its own thing. You wouldn't expect a Captain America movie to be like a Doctor Strange movie, so why do you expect a series about Soliders to be like a series about Magic users?

Yeah, I'm ready for a straightforward series after WandaVision. It's exactly what it says on the tin, nothing wrong with that.

Mostly into this to catch up with the characters and get more of the funny chemistry between these two (I do hope there's better stuff than what was in the trailer, which seemed pretty flat). Also more worldbuilding post-blip, because there are a lot of questions that these post-blip shows can explore.

It's a nice break from the deep, "literary" emotional wringer of WandaVision, furthering the overall plot of its part of the MCU while giving us more accessible looks at how its characters are moving forward.

We watched it and were pretty happy to see it start off with some great action. The characters show a lot of depth and it's not trite or campy.

Looking forward to seeing more.

You wouldn't expect a Captain America movie to be like a Doctor Strange movie, so why do you expect a series about Soliders to be like a series about Magic users?

I wouldn't expect them to have much in common and I don't want this show to be a clone of Wandavision, but I think Wandavision raised the bar for what the MCU can be and I don't think this will meet that bar - not that "as good as a typical MCU film" is a bad place to land obviously. Of course, we've only had one episode and it was definitely good, so I am totes open to the possibility that this will open up and blow my mind. I assume that's not the neighbourhood they want to live in though, and being a more straightforward and traditional thing is a perfectly acceptable mission statement.

Also, I'm not really the target demo for this show. The Cap movies are the boringest chunk of MCU and Bucky is the most dreadful character, so this was never likely to make me swoon.

It IS nice and relaxing to go into this without even a hint of WHO IS THAT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN WHERE IS MEPHISTO? Having no expectations right from the beginning will probably pay off for me.

ETA:

I liked it so far. Really showcases the Falcon's skills.

True, I do think they did some great stuff with the flying and the wings.
