@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:41 AM)

Like, in general, not going into specific bands or covers. Because I could point out plenty of repainted toys I didn't like as much as the original, too.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:39 AM)

Is a musician covering a song "fixing" it?

@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

Nearly thirty Studio Series figs including the '86 line. "I won't touch that." I said a few years ago when deluxe wave 5 came to my store for a tenner each. My latest one' is 72 Starscream.

The 1988 G1 line up could all have been done as Titan Master things, I figure the Pretenders could be done as Titan Master Drones and Prime Master shells.

@  Cyoti : (08 May 2021 - 11:14 AM)

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

So I posted a picture of Classics Hound a d Siege Hound in another thread and asked which one are you keeping? And the responses were actually more than I thought I would get. So now Ive just decided to create a fun game, this or that....basically, which version are you keeping, and why?

First up, RTS Jazz or SS86 Jazz.

RTS is a great looking figure, minus the speakers.

While I havent opened my SS86 Jazz, the resemblance to his animation style is remarkable. But is it enough?

Reposted the Hounds in case anybody needs a visualizer and wants to chime in further on them.

I really like RTS Jazz and will certainly keep him around, but my vote goes to SS86 Jazz.  They pretty much nailed it with that one.

Studio Series 86 Jazz. I never liked the Reveal the Shield Jazz- Over-engineered and his chest can't stay down.

WFC/SS86 is the best combination for all the years of "intermediate" updates I skipped. These are my first Hound since G1 and first Jazz since G2.

SS86 Jazz is phenomenal. Transformation complexity is perfect. Enough to be satisfying, but none of it feels like a chore. Both modes nail his classic look. I was afraid I might miss his door wings from his G1 toy, but in hand he is great and it makes him more show accurate.
I finally got rid of that big white box.

This is pretty much word for word my response.  86 Jazz will earn a prominent spot while RTS Jazz will go with my CHUG collection.

I don't have SS86 Jazz, but if it's a choice between that one and RtS version. Definitely SS86. If it's United, I can't comment until I get the SS86 version. RtS sucks. United is great.

I dont know about that. I've seen some genuinely shocking opinions when it comes to this sort of stuff.

As for the Jazz debate, I'm more in the camp of RTS because I think he's basically a perfect deluxe and he's had a center piece spot in my collection for years, but I'm replacing him with SS86 because I prefer Jazz without the door wings overall and his size fits better with the rest of my display since I've started converting everything to the new Siege/Earthrise scale.

At the moment, I can't judge studio series Jazz as he is on order but yet to be sent out but I'm likely to keep both figures, the only thing that kind of bugs me about RTS Jazz is his hands, I prefer the hands to be closed fists but on Jazz, they just seem kind of weird, thou not as strange looking as the first live action movie Jazz toy hands which are more like claws but incable of holding anything, thou I am going on the repaint of that figure in his G1 colours and I must say on that figure, it has a awesome head, the light piping really brings out its features.

I have RTS Jazz and I don't have SS86 Jazz, but I have seen reviews of him.

RTS Jazz has his problems that have been mentioned (overly engineered legs, a hood chest that doesn't lock into place), but SS86 Jazz just leaves me...flat? The mould and transformation look amazing, but Jazz is one character who's let down by slavish devotion to the animation deco.

I'd love to pick up SS86 Jazz in toy accurate colours though. That would be the perfect Jazz, I think.

Probably not fair to judge the figure based on it since if memory serves RTS Jazz has an amazing one too, but have you seen the sticker sheet coming out for SS86 Jazz?

RTS Jazz for me. I prefer my Classics to be and look like modern updates, I'm not a big fan of the newer constant "replicate the cartoon model as exactingly as possible" thing that's going on.

I imagine the debate would be more "[this figure], easily" if either of the toys was sculpted with a cool smile instead of a neutral expression.
