Even with B5, it didn't follow its original 5-year plan. Summaries from the supplementary materials for the scriptbooks demonstrates that was originally planned was very different from the actual product. Sinclair's actor's departure seemingly changed the show to the point that the stuff with the Vorlons/Shadows, the Minbari and the ending were all changed. Mapping out a show years in advance is difficult because of changing bts stuff like writers/actors leaving the show or suddenly having to retool because of ratings/execs. No plan survives intact especially in a chaotic environment of television production.

To be like Babylon 5, you need to cram a 2 season story arc into one because you fear being cancelled, then get further seasons you have no more material for. You also need a spinoff which the network heads don't want and do everything in their power to kill it while it's on air.

What really bugs me with "Lost" is that the producers had willfully negotiated a set end date with the network halfway through season 3 (the show ended with season 6, as planned) specifically so they could plan out the plot for the remainder of the show. Then... the plot wasn't resolved properly.

By then I had lost interest in arc TV shows, I followed a few and got the impression they were just making them up as they went along. Seemed to be a trend starting with new Galactica and Lost though in actuality began with The X Files and has become a trope called 'The Chris Carter Effect'.

Happy 2021 everybody.

Welcome back, or welcome for the first time, to any and all that either have fitness to share or questions to ask. Here we track our exercises and see if we can be better than last year as a collective whole. We also state our individual fitness goals for the year. For me, its being more consistent. Finding a good rhythm between work, home and exercise time. Hopefully continuing to sign up for different virtual events will help to keep me honest.

Im sure a few people might have numbers to post, but here are last years.

Miles: 1517.61- swimming, biking, walking, running, skipping, crawling...anything you can track in distance
Uppers: 37,349 - push-ups, overhead arm claps, bicep curls, tri extension, shoulder raise, chest press, back rows...anything that works the muscles from the waist (not core) up.
Lowers: 32,616 - squats, lunges, calf raises, leg extension, leg curls, jump rope, jumping Jacks...waist down.
Core: 12,058 - sit ups, planks, crunches, flutter kicks...anything that works that mid section.

Now, exercises like burpees. Just toss them in whatever you want since they are kind of a full body.

If you have questions, comments, concerns, advice....feel free to post it here. Hope everybody is able to reach their goals.

5 mile walk yesterday, chest/back/shoulders today. 

Starting around mid-point last year my short term goals were to just work out more days in a month then the previous month, as I was trying to get in the (new) routine of working out at home and gave me the extra motivation of "trying to get my days in" and beating the previous month's total. I peaked in Aug with 19 days, fell back a bit in Sept with 16 days, Oct was a bust for various reasons with 4 days, came back a bit in Nov with 12 days, then fell off again in Dec with 6 days... which should be easy to beat in January, in fact I'm hoping to have that beat within the first half of the month. Ultimate goal is to get up to and maintain 20+ days of some sort of physical activity a month.

Blurg, I checked page 1 of the last one and Jan 3, 2020 says I was 149lbs.

Jan 2, 2021 has me at 182lbs. How embarrassing! Darn you quarantine fats!

I am coming back to the fold this year. Using the stimulus check, the missus and I ordered a nice exercise bike that we are going to put in our home office. The home office will finally get fixed up too. Expect to see a lot of biking miles this year from me.

Well, I'm not up to good start. Family wanted cake. Got a slice on the first day. No one else wants. Got a quarter yesterday. Got a quarter today. That means I ate over HALF the cake myself! Argh!

Yeah... I'm really unwilling to waste food, even if it's bad for me.

I somewhat recently got a Fit Ring for the Switch. It's pretty silly, but provides some motivation. Naturally I had misplaced the strap while cleaning and just found it the other day, so I haven't used it that much yet... Need to get into a regular routine.

We did a practice PT test today. I havent taken an official one since May of 2019 before I deployed. COVID keeps pushing it all back. But, now that Im in the 40 bracket life is pretty easy. Still felt good about how I did. Only thing I really need to improve is my run time, I want to knock about a minute off of it. As of now, April is when we start back. I bet it gets bumped again.

20 of the 45 push-ups where the first 20 I had done since June when I got home. And they were with my kids on my back.

My wife joined Weoght Watchers and has been going strong for about a week now. To help support her, and drive myself a bit, I signed up too. Its essentially based on points. You scan an items barcode. I get 48 points a day. I didnt really start u til about 3pm so I didnt care about today. You also get extra points, I used some today. Haha.

I also bought a smart scale from Wyze. Tells you your body fat and a bunch of other stuff. Seeing that 30% body fat is also motivating me to get a bit serious again.

Also, after a certain point, it's not about the weight loss numbers because it'll be how your body looks/adjusts.

I’m on board for tracking weight loss. But I think it’s more of this is what I am on day X, and this is now what I am on day Y. Or now and Dec 31st. Unless somebody has a other idea of how.

I would be down for measuring weight loss, I always pack on some winter weight, and then burn it off in the Spring. Though every year it takes a little longer and gets a little harder. This may be the motivation I need.

I was thinking we could just post a net gain or loss and add it to the total.

So if I started, Id post my stats and add them to the total as usual.

Then for weight loss:

-250 (our current total loss) + 3 pounds gain = -247

I agree that after a while it becomes a number. But if we made it a community goal to drop 100? 200? It could add another component to this thread.

Also. A few years ago it was suggested to post photos, but I backed out because I didnt want my before photo public.

Im less conscious about that now, but thought Id throw it out there. Could do something like the sub /progresspics on Reddit maybe.

Stats:
Worked out every day so far. Havent been tracking reps closely but what I do know:

Miles: 14.69+4.68 = 19.37
Uppers: 502 + 190 = 692
Lowers: 280 + 100 = 380
Core: 379

5 mile walk Thurs, torso day Saturday. 

Then my back went out Sunday so just waiting for that to go away. A nice frustrating curb to any motivation.
