See, I kinda think the perception around the game is more "no man's sky at launch" than skyrim. It's not that people don't necessarily want to give it a chance, it's that as consumers: we're all kind of fed up of the outright lies, and frankly speaking, the extra years of development needed to get even close to the original promise.
The triple A development section of the gaming industry is basically using the indie early access methodology, but patently refusing to admit that they are.

Yeah, a lot has happened in the past decade. Most of it bad. And the "pissed-off gamer" demographic is a lot bigger and more vocal than it used to be, thanks to the likes of Ben Croshaw and Jim Sterling. Also, Bethesda already had a reputation for putting out piles of scrap held together with duct tape by 2011, where as CD Projekt Red was responsible for the Witcher games that were specifically held up as a shining example of "See, Bethesda? It's not hard to make an open-world RPG that actually works."

No Man's Sky is the exception that proves the rule, though. Hello Games is an aberration for the fact they actually took the time, effort, and resources to make the game what was promised. Every other studio in the industry would have simply abandoned it to obscurity and moved on.

Which was a undeserved reputation really, since the entire Witcher series had a plethora of bugs and problems all on its own.

Oh, absolutely. But the day after no man's sky dropped? Like; the first little while before the other shoe dropped? The people were raging. None of what was promised was there, even in a barebones fashion. A few years on? No man's sky is one of the few games I never uninstall. I might not play it frequently: but it's never not going to be there. It had to earn it though, and it did. Years of effort on the part of the devs.
Maybe in a few years, CP77 will be in the same boat. I hope so, there's a LOT of potential in the world they made.

CD Projket Red is more than likely going to drop whatever DLC is still in development then move on to its next project.
Very real possibility I can't deny. On the other hand, CDPR must know their reputation's in the shitter right now. I have to imagine they'd want to do something about that.

They're not exactly alone in that regard. There's not too many RPG developers out there that are exactly being heaped with praises.
Obsidian's The Outer Worlds landed with a resounding "Meh."
Blizzard managed to defecate on itself with WarCraft 3: Reforged
Bethesda got bought out by Microsoft, so bad was the Fallout 76 fiasco and we're now FOUR YEARS since they officially announced Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield...neither of which we've seen so much as a hint of a whisper of since.
Square's Final Fantasy VII remake was met with...mixed...reception and while I haven't been keeping up to date on it I also haven't seen any suggestion of when "Part 2" is coming out. And while they didn't develop it, their latest published RPG Outriders is...divisive, to say the least. You either love it or you hate it, and there's zero inbetween to those feelings.

You're kidding, right? Todd Howard won't stop pimping starfield in so far that they refuse to make any other promises cause starfield is just so BIG, and has priority. At this point: I suspect it's another duke nukem forever, but at least I was smart enough to not buy a pre-order this time.
As for CDPR: all they have to do is rush out another witcher game, and their fanbase will mostly forgive them.

Being blunt, I stopped paying attention to the shit that comes out of Todd Howard's mouth after he straight up LIED about everything about Fallout 76.
Microsoft would be wise to show Todd the door.
