I've been radio silent on the game for a while. It was supposed to be my birthday present back in March but it's finally out.
We got it on both Steam and PS4 and started playing last night/this morning.
Luckily I haven't seen the many bugs that are reported, but Kayla keeps crashing. Hopefully they'll get this patched up asap.
The character creator is better than some games but still lacking in some areas. I think Saints Row 4 is actually a lot more robust. But it's still more detailed.
The weird thing is how you go in and make the genitals. For both boobs and dongs you only get 3 options of sizes rather than a slider.
Combat will take some getting used to. I've never been very good at shooting and even less so when using a controller (I'm primarily on PS4). I am still technically in the tutorial but I got into my first real combat situation. I was going for the melee brawler type but I didn't do so well in my first fight.
There are three factions to choose from. I started with Corporate but when I'm done with the "tutorial" I'm going to make a new character and try the others, assuming you can run games concurrently.
Besides combat there's also hacking and stealth options to achieve goals and there's a whole crafting system I haven't even touched yet.
I'm also very much looking forward to the driving.
There are dialog trees but I don't know how much they change outcomes like say, Mass Effect, but it does have a similar vibe.
What are your thoughts on the game?

the game has a light mechanic that can cause seizures.
Gamers wasted no time sending clips of the seizure-causing effect to critics.
because as always it's about ethics in video game journalism.

Mine is on PS4 Pro and I haven't had any issues really and the game looks good. I understand it's the base model PS4 and XBONE that are having performance issues.
I haven't actually seen any indication that your character's junk is in the game but I am still not that far into it. There's definitely nudity in the game but that's not unheard of.
Right now the vibe I get from it is that it's a bit of a mix of GTA, Mass Effect and maybe Division 2 in terms of feel.

Played an hour or two today and it plays muuuuuch more pleasantly than AC:V. Keen to log more time.

They did a hot fix patch to get it up to 1.04. I skimmed the notes but almost all of it was stuff I haven't seen in the game yet anyway. The only thing I recognized was the brain dance stuff with the flashing lights. I didn't get a seizure over it but I'm glad they toned it down

But it's so good I don't give a crap. The quality of what they got right eclipses everything that might bring the experience down. Primarily, the writing and performances are just spectacular. Long time since I played a game that gave me an "I love this movie, I can't wait to see what happens next" feeling. It's so effortlessly cinematic and immersive. Even when you're surrounded - as you literally always are - by hundreds of tiny pieces of random crap that you're expected to pick up (juice bottle! used cigarette! moldy shoelace! rifle bullets! mouse droppings! CRAFT SOMETHING) it still doesn't creep towards the dreaded This Is Just A Video Game vibe that cracks the facade of many games.
It's just fun and great and beautiful. It's far exceeded my expectations.

I just had my first crash. That's not bad all things considered. I'm on a base PS4.
I'm finding the controls and menus a bit mind numbing. But I'm also irl sick, so that could definitely be affecting things.
It really is a bit of bad luck this finally released just as I came down with Covid. Like, Final Fantasy XV took a piece of my heart when it's what kept me sane when I had a kidney stone. But this I'm feeling kinda meh about because my head is so fuzzy and I'm so low-energy I just can't keep up with it.
But that hardly seems fair to the game. I seem to be one of the lucky few not running into a bunch of bugs. I don't want to hate on a game because I just happen to play it while I'm sick. Though I wound up absolutely loving Final Fantasy XV for keeping me sane while I was sick. If it's fair to judge a game one way, is it fair to judge a game the other?
I think I'll keep playing it for a while. I'm not running into the horrible bugs others seem to be. It's not a bad game at all. Hell, maybe once I'm over this damn bug, I may start to love it.
And I lost my train of thought. Sick posting is probably as understandable as drunk posting.

I went through something similar to your FF15 experience last year. I was basically glued to the couch for a month following a botched surgery. The surgery just happened to be the same day DQ11 came out on the Switch, so I ended up spending a ton of time with that game. It was not a pleasant month, but getting to spend so much time on a game I really enjoyed definitely helped a lot.
Anyway, I've seen a lot of ads for this game, but really don't know anything about it other than that Keanu Reeves is in it. What little I'd seen about it made me think it's a shooter, which is not a type of game I enjoy at all, so I've largely ignored it. But when I look it up on Wikipedia, it says it's an action RPG? Between that and the positive comments here, guess I'll have to give it another look.

It's an action RPG akin to Saints Row or GTA in the sense that you have a main story and a bunch of side missions and the city is completely open world for exploration. There are shooting elements but you could also potentially make a stealth hacker that could avoid many combat situations.

It's a first-person open-world shooter RPG. Lke I said, my reaction's been kinda meh. It's decently enjoyable. My think being sick just kinda jades the experience.
The biggest thing though is that even though I haven't personally had any really bad glitches, I know a lot of people have. So maybe don't get it on vanilla hardware (use at least a PS4 Pro/X-box equivalent if not a PS5/X-box equivalent. Even better would probably be to just wait until everything's had a chance to be patched out.

Yeah. I don't want to get into the semantics too much, but a game with shooting isn't necessarily a shooter. In any case, I haven't had a chance to play it all week but I've run into minimal problems on the PS4 Pro so I wont be returning it.
The PC is something that I'd consider returning because we got it on Steam but they have their "If you've played less than 2 hours" as one of the requirements. But it has crashed and was glitched out and says the gameplay time is "101.4 hours" which is horse shit because it was just counting time while the client wasn't even open. But I guess they'll fix it eventually right?
