@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

The 1988 G1 line up could all have been done as Titan Master things, I figure the Pretenders could be done as Titan Master Drones and Prime Master shells.

@  Cyoti : (08 May 2021 - 11:14 AM)

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:58 AM)

Generations Nightbeat never really scratched that itch sadly; he looked okay, but his transformation was fiddly, his robot mode had far too many bits and pieces flopping around unsecured, and his chest dragged along the surface in var mode. =/

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:57 AM)

I second wishing that we got a Deluxe Nightbeat from TR, mostly because as a kid he was second-in-command to my old Powermaster Optimus for the longest time. =P

Here's hoping that freeing themselves from the ball and chain of the original show will let the proper creative juices flow!

I'm always a little ambivalent about Josh's art style. On the one hand, it's fun and attractive; on the other, his characters often seem like they're trying too hard to exude quirky personality. It is, figuratively speaking, all fingerguns, all the time.

Maybe that's a weird thing to complain about. I dunno.

Regardless, I'll definitely give this series a shot!

repowers @ TFWiki.net

Robert is made to withstand plenty of play, and transforms from car to robot! Go, Robert, go!

Why will we solve after Robert grasps the abysmal winter's ulcer? He may change rural tailors, do you join them? The films, tapes, and spoons are all good and fresh.

This is the most interesting thing (to me) from IDW in a while (granted, I pretty much stopped reading after MTMTE changed to Lost Light, save for getting the ROM Shining Armor trade). Very interested in the potential of the new character. Love the name Nyx (one of our cats is named that), and it would be really cool if she is in fact Primal's daughter (he was already a very "dad" character).

I am really, really excited to see Burcham drawing interiors on a regular basis--always wanted to see more of his art, and I've loved the BW art he's posted frequently on his twitter.

And Erik Burnahm's done some good stuff with the Ghostbusters comic, so a whole new take on BW with this creative team that doesn't have to worry about conflicting with the cartoon? I am PUMPED.

Thanks for the kind words.

We're doing something a little bit like what was done way back when with Ultimate Comics; starting from a familiar place with some beats that longtime fans will recognize, but from there we can go almost anywhere.

Can't wait to show you some of the craziness we have planned.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

I have a suggestion: Please do a bunch of stories about how the G1 characters are still around and absorb the entire narrative.

New Beast Wars is a dream come true, can't wait.

Never been a Beast Wars fan, but with a creative team like this, the book will be amazing.

Damn, it's going to make me want all the stupid Kingdom toys I thought I could skip.

Maybe they'll explain that alien disk and the Vok a bit more.

Your scientists have yet to discover how neural networks create self-consciousness, let alone how the human brain processes two-dimensional retinal images into the three-dimensional phenomenon known as perception. Yet you somehow brazenly declare that seeing is believing!

I love the art - it's so energetic!  The body lines force the eye to follow, it makes them look like they're alive on the page.  I do get the "finger-guns" vibe, but I also saw that (and liked that) in the Windblade / TAAO series, where everybody was constantly guffawing and eyerolling and exasperatedly leaning everywhere.  As much as drawings can convey emotion and personality, I'm all for it.

I am prepared to relinquish much of my own "GEEWUN" attitude towards Beast Wars - I'll be fine if they change some stuff up - as long as the basic personalities are right and the dialogue is good.

I'm not really feeling this, but then the art looks more like it belongs to the animated universe, but then I've been out of collecting TF comics since IDW 1 ended, my original plan was to swtich over to G Novels but then I just stopped thinking about it and so I haven't read anything of IDW's second take on TF but then I'm hearing IDW is not in great shape financially!

I like what we’ve seen so far. Stylised visuals are the way to go for a modern Beast Wars comic – distances the new comic series from both the CGI style of the television show and the noughties IDW take on Beast Wars.

(Josh’s BW illustrations reminds me of a mix of Animated and Jack Lawrence’s BW fanzine from 1996/7. Anyone else remember that fanzine?)

BW with a new story unrelated to anything prior sounds fun. Please do not wank any fans and just make it fun. Give everyone new personalities if you want. Maybe I will pick up a trade.

I eager to see the usage of non-show characters.  Beast Wars is a wealth of characters and concepts that were ignored due to the constraints of the cartoon and the lack of a comic book at the time.

While they'll no doubt go off in a different direction, I'm very shocked at how closely they're hewing to the original premise of the Beast Wars show, right down to the golden disc being a major plot element.

Ah well, maybe in another decade they'll do they'll another reboot and really start fresh.
