@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:58 AM)

Generations Nightbeat never really scratched that itch sadly; he looked okay, but his transformation was fiddly, his robot mode had far too many bits and pieces flopping around unsecured, and his chest dragged along the surface in var mode. =/

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:57 AM)

I second wishing that we got a Deluxe Nightbeat from TR, mostly because as a kid he was second-in-command to my old Powermaster Optimus for the longest time. =P

This is as good as any place to mention this: Jim Henson's company's Earth to Ned's first 10 eps are on Disney+.

I saw the first 2 episodes. While I like the puppetry and design of the show, something feels off. I'm not certain if its off on purpose because Ned is an alien and clearly doesn't "get" Earth entertainment or its just off cuz they're finding their footing. It did have some genuine laughs but most of the time I felt like I'd have prefered it of they went a slightly different direction. Like BETI isn't funny. At all. Her voice sounds really weird and it doesn't feel like a match for what they're trying to do with her. Like if she's supposed to be snarky and ill tempered then lean harder into that.

I'm not sure if they're going somewhere with Ned's invasion log at the end, like if theres gonna be character development or plot?

I dunno. Maybe I just really want more Space Ghost Coast to Coast...

I haven't watched it yet but was pleasantly surprised to see it had arrived. There are some quality guests - including a couple we just saw on Muppets Now which is interesting.

Anyone else giving "The Muppet Show" a revisit thanks to Disney+? Like Transformers, this is another property that's "ingrained in my soul", and I'll always have at least half an eye on what it's doing and what they're putting out.

I started from the beginning with the streaming and slowly making my way through (ended with the Vincent Price episode last night.) I have the first 3 seasons on DVD which I watched when I got them at release but never really watched since (so that's been over 10 years) And I use to watch and VCR-tape them off TV when they were airing on the Hallmark channel in the late '90s. (I think I've thrown out those videos since then, once the DVDs started coming out...)

And of course I was a huge fan of the Palisades Toys line that came out. And wanted to celebrate the Disney+ release with a little photoshoot:

It's great to have Jim back. I think before TMS, Disney + had about 18 hours of Muppet content (not counting Muppet Babies), and of that 18 hours of content, only The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper have Jim in them. With the addition of around 50 hours of TMS, True Original Genuine Actual Kermit is available to the world in a volume unseen in decades.

The distribution rights for Manhattan are still owned by Sony Pictures.

(also "Muppets from Space" but I doubt anyone cares about that one.)

In terms of modern attempts to sustain the characters: There are a lot of subtle mannerisms and characteristics that subsequent performers have never really replicated.

Kermits wishy washy responses are diplomatic, flipping the question back on the person half the time. Like hes questioning the system that asks such questions.

Fozzy isnt only bad at comedy, hes insecure and he can be razor sharp when he gets out of his own head.

Piggys self-centered-ness and her fickle divaship have...subtlety? To them? Its difficult to say why exactly its so different but there is an observable quality at work.

I still say the closest theyve been to recapturing that in years was Most Wanted (Extended Cut) but I know Im alone in that opinion.

The Muppets are supposed to be a little subversive and a lot of people in charge of them tend to overlook that.

When they do remember the AUDIENCE kinda forgets. The Office parody got a lot right but breaking up Kermit and Peggie probably sank it more than anything else.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

It looks like the episode order has been revised. I had been watching from ep 1 til about 7 or 8. But yesterday it said I was on 13 and the episode list was all jumbled with ones I'd seen acattered about the first 12 slots. The first episode now included Mahna Mahna and already has Scooter guilt tripping/threatening Kermit into letting him on the show.

Unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but I'd be happy if Piggy was removed from all Muppet productions, past, present, and future.

Well, you're a dangerous maniac.

But given that the for the bulk of Muppets history their relationship has been "she loves him and he doesn't want anything to do with her", and there's no real overarching canon, the idea of them "breaking up" never made sense to me.

My son absolutely loves The Muppets, and The Muppets & Most Wanted are two of his favourite movies. He watches them all the time. Hell, when I played that clip on the last page (with Sandy B) he came running around the corner as soon as he heard Kermit's voice.

The Muppets still have the magic, they just need the right wizard to use it.
