Okay, so... both games minimized when I tried to reset the resolution above the default 800X600. Uprising actually CRASHED when I tried to set the graphics beyond the default lowest settings. In both cases, something they were doing were preventing me from clicking on their process in the task manager. Thankfully, in both cases, restarting the computer made them work properly to set both resolution and graphics. Alright, let's play!
I'm a huge fan of the red alert series, and yuri's revenge is STILL one of my favorite RTS games, right up there supreme commander forged alliance.
... What in the ever loving hug?
These are quite clearly MOBILE GAMES which were upscaled and ported to PC. While the maps are very pretty, they are also almost completely static, without many of the normal structures you can garrison for early game defence. There are a RIDICULOUS number of resource buildings per map, and I am quite frankly surprised the game didn't tell me it was a buck a pop (or twenty for $10! Best value!) to have my engineers take them over. A lot of the little things, like idle animations for individual units are flat out gone, which is a shame because they seemed to have put some serious effort into differentiating the styles of the various units.
That was literally as far as I got. I did one skirmish round in each game, and was so put off by game mechanics changes, limiting (and ugly.) interface, and the "commander perks" which you can buy from killing enough enemy units. I wound up uninstalling the games. I understand wanting to not only change something formulaic and to experiment, but to outright move a beloved and cherished franchise (especially after the well received and implemented red alert 2.) to a platform NOT MEANT to have this style of game is insulting to the fan base which keeps buying the titles.
And the empire of the rising sun was just a giant pain in the ass to play. None of their units is "as produced" anti air. If you don't know you have to transform something to get them to shoot up, you end up being completely vulnerable to the early game bombers the soviets and allies have.
I think I hate these games.
