"I was gonna buy some Toyhax labels for Earthrise Auto-Whatsit, but since I'd be disrespecting the artistic expression of the designers, I think I'll just forget the whole thing."

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:41 AM)

Like, in general, not going into specific bands or covers. Because I could point out plenty of repainted toys I didn't like as much as the original, too.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:39 AM)

Is a musician covering a song "fixing" it?

@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

I can picture in my head how incredibly regal a white lion with a golden mane would look. And then to have that transform into some version of Optimus' recognizable silhouette?  I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the shots they pitched to get the thing made.

"Kimba/Simba was Optimus Prime the whole time!"

"When there's gold feathers, punch behind you!!"

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

I not sure how a BW movie could work as the twist of BW being set in the era before G1 came in season 3 of the cartoon. In general, about the only story to have is that both factions crashland on a alien world and battle it out but to blend in, they take animal forms.

A Beast Wars movie would almost certainly just be aimed for general audience comsumption as "Transformers but the alien robots are disguised as animals instead of cars." It wouldn't have anything to do with time travel or G1 or the buried Ark or any of that stuff.

I've been repeating one idea for a Bee sequel that was, former Sector 7 agent Jack Burns now works at the San Diego zoo, and also he is friends with the ape there hahha its optimus primal. The Maximals are helping out the Autobots rebellion.

Any Beast Wars Movie just like any Generation 1 movie is going to have a significant human presence for budget and/or story reasons. It would also most likely be set in the present day.

I see a lot of people assuming theyre going to film The Agenda with Bumblebee on Cybertron level graphics and those people are going to be super disappointed.

To me one of the key elements of Beast Wars was that it wasn't just "man vs. man" (or rather "robot vs robot"), but also "man vs. nature".  I hope they keep that element, and keep the setting on a non-developed world.

That said, maybe they could have a tie-in like:  It's Charlie, she grew and became an astronaut!  She explores space with Bumblebee!  Whoops, they accidentally went backwards in time, because of . . . science??  And are stuck on this Earth-like planet, that turns out to be ancient Earth.  But there are also robots from the FUTURE there who keep saying things like "Whoa, ultra gear!" and "we're all gonna die."

Then Charlie could be the audience surrogate the production company thinks they need, plus they could sell even more Bumblebee toys.

But yeah, it'll probably just be BW characters on modern Earth.   :(

One tricky aspect... you lose the "giant" part of "giant alien space robots". Most BW animals are smaller than humans, so you wind up with a cast with the physical statures of Brains, Wheelie, Frenzy and Alice.

That suggests a spy/stealth kind of theme.

And the disguise aspect only works in certain environments and/or for certain animals. A realistic cheetah isn't a great disguise in the suburbs of LA.

Robert is made to withstand plenty of play, and transforms from car to robot! Go, Robert, go!

Why will we solve after Robert grasps the abysmal winter's ulcer? He may change rural tailors, do you join them? The films, tapes, and spoons are all good and fresh.

I guess a lot of the logistics of a BW movie depends on how connected they want to stay to the other movies.

For instance, RotF established that Transformers were on the earth before the Pyramids were built. If any stayed behind, they would almost have to have taken beast forms for disguise.

Or, if they set the story in modern times, they might explain the organic beast forms as a way to avoid detection by the various groups trying to hunt them down. I think this is the more likely scenario. The Maximals could be in hiding in a zoo, or on a wildlife preserve.

On the other hand, I'd almost like to see the Predacons portrayed like the Destron Pretenders in Masterforce: they take on the forms of dinosaurs and huge insects just to terrorize the humans. This wouldnt work for disguise, but it could serve as the trigger that brings the Maximals out of hiding.

I guess there is a lot of time for speculation, and there is a big difference between 'in development' and 'in production'. Time will tell, but I do hope they get the Beast Wars one made.

The obvious answer is to make every individual character an animal combiner. Cheetor's not a cheetah, he's twenty alley cats. Also he's probably Jazz or Nightbeat or something.

I think the plot of a Beast Wars film is obvious:

Beast Megatron goes back in time with a crew (Skorponok, Tarantulas, Waspinator, Terrorsaur, maybe Dinobot or Rampage) to assassinate Optimus Prime and maybe release Megatron early or something to give the Decepticons an advantage.  A team of Maximals (Optimus Primal, Cheetor, Rattrap, Rhinox) go back to stop them and enlist human companions to stop the Predacons and keep their presence hidden from the Autobots.  Kind of like the Transformers version of "Days of Futures Past".

Or we end up seeing the Maximals team with a few Autobots to stop the Predacons from changing the future with the help of Decepticons.

A Beast Wars films is entirely plausible depending on how they opt to handle it.  Also, screw scale.  I can live with Maximals a bit smaller than Autobot cars.  So long as Megatron is a to scale T-Rex.  Also, if you're doing time travel, they could play with styling and maybe do something closer to Beast Machines with a bio-organic look and not requiring everyone be super realistic animals.

I really feel like this is probably a situation where it's fairly safe to assume that regardless of anyone's current plans or intentions, there is just absolutely no way a BW movie is ever actually going to happen.

I mean, I'd love to see them exploring other areas of the property, but surely this won't ever be real.

From the end of time, when Earth/Unicron is poised to end the universe as we know it, a team of heroes is sent into Earth's past to destroy the star harvester or whatever and keep Unicron's dark essence from taking control of Earth in the first place. Ancient humans team up with these aliens; hijinks ensue. The universe is rebooted. Bumblebee is part of the new timeline.

I mean, a story about transforming animals is very doable.

Will it have anything to do with the actual series and its characters? Ehhh.

Animal forms make sense in almost any pre-industrial setting. Anything before the 1830s or so, really.

A squad of 6 Autobots arrives on Earth, and promptly take the form of horses.

I don't believe that it's possible to make a good live-action movie about talking animals that unfold into metal robots. As soon as the monkey mouths start flapping with the dialogue, it becomes silly. As soon as the realistic horse head splits apart to reveal robot arms, it becomes gruesome.

Anyway, I expect "Doolittle" will prevent any talking-animal movies from being greenlit for a while. They'll get a script, the writer will get paid, and they'll move forward with the one about the cars.
