20th year anniversary. Sheesh.
Batman Beyond is getting a remastered release to celebrate the landmark series' 20th anniversary. Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition will arrive on digital on October 15 and Blu-Ray on October 29.Comprising 1,500 minutes of Batman Beyond across four discs, the set will also include 2 discs of bonus content including a remastered version of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and 15 featurettes about the series. Four episodes of the core series will also receive audio commentary from executive producer Bruce Timm and members of the production team. The physical release also includes a Batman Beyond Funko Pop with chrome paint and four lenticular art cards.
I'll have to unbury my DVDs because I don't remember the pilot looking so bad but it's been a few years.
I was hoping for this after the Batman Animated Series got an HD release. Batman Beyond isn't as good and the final season is garbage, but overall it's a good series and I'm excited about the release. Curious to see how Return of the Joker comes out looking since that already got a Blu Ray.
Of the 52 Beyond episodes, 41 have been fully remastered from the original 35mm film, removing film grain for better color, removing dust and dirt and enhancing the resolution.
The 11 other episodes have been damaged over time, meaning they have been 'Smart Rezzed', resulting in a better image than the original, but not as advanced as the fully remastered episodes. Those 11 episodes are: “Eyewitness,” “Final Cut,” “The Last Resort,” “Armory,” “Sneak Peek,” “The Eggbaby,” “Zeta,” “Plague,” “April Moon,” “Sentries of the Lost Cosmos” and “Speak No Evil.”
Disappointing, especially since I really like most of those episodes, but what can you do.
