@  Nevermore : (18 October 2019 - 01:20 AM)

Oh, the turnover rates are high here as well.

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Amazon.com and .ca, on the other hand, can be pretty terrible. I know from your squawkbox posts that you guys have your issues with Amazon over there, although you're lucky to have stronger government regulations and a union there. I gather the warehouse workers in the USA and Canada have it pretty crappy, with very high turnover, close to minimum wage pay, and no unions

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 09:38 PM)

Amazon.de doesn't really have the same issue. I've ordered from them (and UK, FR, IT and JP) several times, and their packaging is much better

@  Nevermore : (17 October 2019 - 05:22 PM)

I'm not sure how it works on the customer's end. As packers, we sometimes have items that are flagged as "overwrap", which means we absolutely have to put them into a box even if they're already in pretty sturdy manufacturer packaging.

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 03:05 PM)

Yeah, I really do wish amazon had an option to upgrade packaging for an extra buck or something. I hate their bubble mailers

@  Benbot : (17 October 2019 - 07:17 AM)

That's how it works. I just hope my order from Amazon doesn't arrive crushed because they idiotically stuffed it in an envelope.

@  Telly : (16 October 2019 - 10:48 PM)

my walmart is acting true to form. as soon as mirage arrives from amazon, my walmart gets his entire wave in after months of having wave 1 clogging the pegs....

@  Nevermore : (16 October 2019 - 05:18 PM)

I stirred up some trouble at work, complained about the blatant neglect of employee safety. Was asked to take photos and write down the locations so the matter could be properly escalated. Made me feel a little better.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2019 - 10:06 PM)

Together with the Rhino G1 sets, probably the most expensive DVDs I ever bought

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2019 - 10:01 PM)

I've still got the age-old Rhino sets

@  Telly : (14 October 2019 - 09:09 PM)

i didnt find that at any of the ones around here, so i had to settle for seasons 1 and 2 of duckman for $3

@  Steevy Maximus : (14 October 2019 - 07:45 PM)

Heck, I got the season 2/3 set for $3 (?) from a Dollar General discount bin :p

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2019 - 07:29 PM)

The series is pretty cheap on DVD, too, which at least will work internet or no. The complete series set seems to be OOP, but there's a Season 1 set as well as a combined 2 & 3 set.

@  wonko the sane? : (14 October 2019 - 06:10 PM)

Woot! Beast wars!

@  Steevy Maximus : (14 October 2019 - 06:08 PM)

He described the peoples he encountered as some of the most friendly and giving in the world, so naturally, he ate all their food, enslaved them and put them to work looking for gold that did not exist, until they as a people did not exist.

Is it like, standard practice for Hasbro to make specific demands even before they could confirm whether or not it's actually getting made?

Sounds about right, as that was going on as far back as G1.  Regardless of what company on the west coast was providing the story editors - premise, outline, script, each phase had to go off to the Sunbow NY office for the Hasbro rep. to review it.

Obviously nowadays it would probably be emailed straight to Hasbro, as opposed to back then when all they had was MCI (commercial email service).

No part of this is satisfying. It might have been in its originally expected context of being followed by the whole season of episodes it was setting up for, but as things stand I feel like I was happier not knowing.

I feel like you're perhaps coming at this with the wrong mindset. Like, this is NOT designed to provide any closure. Far from it. It's designed specifically to blow open the rather closed ending that we DID get. Season premier and all that. It's not SUPPOSED to be satisfying, it's supposed to be intriguing and make you wonder what's going to happen next.

Contrast to, say, Trial and Error, which Chris and I did unofficially. That project took some of the same broad brushstrokes (Sari's encounter with Prowl from the AllSpark, Megatron on trial, attacks on the Energon Farms) but specifically tried to tie it all up and put a bow on it. Different goals, so we produced a different story.

That's what I meant re: the originally expected context.

I feel like, as much as the writers claim that they didn't have an endgame decided on for Sari, the outline - paired with their desire for things to get more Beast Era-y - really suggests

Spoiler

is where they were leading things.

Anyone here who read the Season 4 summaries in either the Almanacs or the TCC magazine #71 should have known that Season 4's opener was going to blow up the end of Season 3.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

Was this recorded?

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, TFNation specifically prohibited recording of "The Trial of Megatron" reading.

Hopefully they recorded it.  Reminds me of many similar BotCon events that we were told not to record but never ended up online from the official source either...  :(

At least the scripts of those many script readings were put online years later. This one sounds like it'll never see a wider release. :(

Same with those last two Animated shorts that only played at BotCon 2009 and 2012. :wtf

By its nature, it exists as a recording, because the original cast all recorded their lines and sent them in, which were then edited together by TFN to create the full presentation.

But TFNation cannot legally release the recording to the public, because the story treatments remain the property of Hasbro. The whole reason Marty was allowed to present them at TFN was because it was to a closed audience with recording devices banned.

Me and The Wadapan are going to work up full TFWiki articles for the treatments based on the handwritten notes we took during the presentation, but the recordings or even just the original text of the treatments can unfortunately never see the light of day.

If this DID get recorded, we'd almost certainly say goodbye to anything like this ever happening again and at least being put up in note form for non-attendees. And UK fandom is by and large very close-knit and (relatively) small, so if it got out there it'd be social suicide (plus you'd probably get banned from attending future cons).

It's not like BotCon where stuff can go up once the license gets pulled because there's no infrastructure left to get mad about it. It's an unofficial convention, it'll go on for as long as it can.

Anyways. Honestly, I'd most analogise it to a kind of spoken wiki article - a few character quotes here and there, but mostly descriptions of events and expressions. As someone who was really, really *really* over Animated going into the screening, it really was a special event - but you'll mostly be missing the literal text and voice, considering almost all the comissioned art was available as prints the following day and can probably get scanned sooner or later.

The Beachcomber thing is as groanworthy now as it was when we first heard about it.

"Disabled people donít have special needs. We have very reasonable human needs. Our needs include freedom from abuse, violence, and mistreatment, the right to autonomy and self-direction, the right to represent ourselves, equal opportunity for education and employment, the right to accommodation, and societal inclusion and acceptance.

The need for accommodation isnít a ďspecial needĒ. Itís a basic human right. Itís a leveling of the playing field that allows us the same opportunities and chances as non-disabled people."
