~12 million years ago: Cybertron is home to organic life, very similar to that of prehistoric earth. Vector Sigma exists through unknown origins.
12 million years ago: The Quintessons, rumored to have been sent by Unicron, establish themselves on Cybertron, terraforming it into a metal factory world. They then construct a shell program for Vector Sigma, called the Oracle, and use Vector Sigma's power, coupled with the Plasma Energy Chamber, to create robotic life. Their first attempts, the Transorganics, were monstrous beasts, half organic half robotic, and they were sealed away near the center of the planet. Changing their tactics, the Quintessons instead created fully robotic beings that they used for labor and profit. The Quintessons sold these robots, constructing both military and consumer robots to cater to customer needs. The robots, however, developed sentience and began to rebel against their masters. This begins the First Cybertronian War
12-11 million years ago: The slave robots gain possession of the Matrix and use it as a sign of authority. The first wielder begins with an ancient being, Primon, and a lineage of Primes would continue throughout the ages.
11 million years ago: Rebel forces led by A-3 and Beta use the Quintesson slave brand as their faction insignia and wage open war against their tyrannical masters, assaulting their fortress at Hive City. To counter the Quintessons' dark guardian robots, A-3 constructs the Coder Remote, which he uses to disable the guardians and besiege the Quintessons (after some shenanigans with time travelers). A period of peace begins as the Quintessons flee the planet and transformers are given true autonomy.
11-9 million years ago: The peace on Cybertron ends after war breaks out between the violent military hardware type robots, calling themselves the Decepticons, and the consumer robots, the Autobots. While the Autobots cannot match the Decepticons in strength, they instead turn to stealth and develop the art of transforming, using their cloaked forms to sabotage the Decepticons and win the war. Using repurposed Dark Guardians from the Quintesson Era, the Autobots enforce a peace with the Guardian Robots, and the planet enters a Golden Age (literally, the planet is gold in color).
9 million years ago: Remaining Decepticons adapt the art of transformation, and create robot mode flight through anti-gravity technology. With these abilities, the Decepticons construct a new leader to command their forces with an iron fist: Megatron. Acting quickly, the new Decepticon leader rallies a core group of early supporters, consisting of infamous cons like Soundwave and Shockwave. To bolster their ranks, Megatron develops the Robosmasher, a machine that reprograms transformers to serve the Decepticons with fierce loyalty. With this machine and his supporters, Megatron begins attacking the outer cities of Cybertron, raiding their energon stores and continuing to gain more and more soldiers. During these attacks, the current Prime in charge of Cybertron, Sentinel Prime, is killed, and passes the Matrix to A-3, now known as the wise sage Alpha Trion, who safeguards it until a new Prime emerges. That Prime would appear shortly after in the form of Orion Pax, a dockworker who fell victim to one of Megatron's raids. He and his girlfriend, Ariel, and best friend, Dion, were badly injured, and were taken to Alpha Trion by a time displaced group of Aerialbots. Orion and Ariel were reconstructed into Optimus Prime and Elita One, while the fate of Dion remained ambiguous and forgotten. Optimus then returned to the dock he was working at and successfully beat back Megatron and his forces, beginning the Third Cybertronian War in full. Around this time, Skyfire and Starscream, scientific explorers, venture to prehistoric Earth. Skyfire is lost in the expedition, presumed dead, and Starscream returns to Cybertron to enroll in the Cybertron War Academy, which leads him to joining Megatron.
4 million years ago: After five million years of war, Cybertron is left a barren, energy starved wasteland of ruined cityscapes. The Autobots, sensing that the war on Cybertron cannot be won without a new energy source, construct a Vanguard Class Ship, the Ark, to board and venture to alien worlds in search of a new power source. This plan is discovered by the Decepticons, and they begin constructing their own ship, the Nemesis. As the Autobots prepare to launch, the Decepticons lay siege to the Autobots' capital of Iacon, assaulting the Great Dome and bombarding the Ark. As Optimus Prime boards the ship, Elita One desperately attempts to join him, but is engulfed in flames and presumed dead by Optimus. In truth, she and her contingent of Autobots would continue a campaign of guerilla warfare against Shockwave, Megatron's appointed guardian of Cybertron. Megatron and his forces board the Nemesis and pursue the Ark through the cosmos, eventually boarding the ship and engaging in a heated battle. This does not last long, as the Ark and Nemesis become caught in the Earth's gravity field and crash land at different points of the globe, knocking the transformers aboard unconscious and critically damaged for 4 million years. A trio of Decepticons escape this fate by bailing in an escape pod, where they would land and terrorize the area in which they crashed for the next four million years.
~180,000 BCE: Two ships of Maximal and Predacon origin exit a transwarp portal from the future and crash land on Earth. The survivors, led by Optimus Primal and a different Megatron, wage war in an event known as the Beast Wars. Multiple events of varying importance occur, including hostile actions by the mysterious forces known as the Vok, the immortal ghost of Starscream returning briefly, Ravage, an agent of the Predacon Alliance, arriving to kill everyone, Depth Charge coming from the future in search of Protoform X, Megatron using the Nemesis in a bid to destroy the Maximals, but failing and being taken back to Cybertron through a retrofitted Autobot Shuttle, and Predacon agent Tarantulas and his underlings continuing to war against the Vok-created Primal Prime and his followers in a bid to claim the Matrix for Unicron (just go watch Beast Wars and read the bloody comics, a LOT happens, ok? I can't exactly list every major plot point of three shows and multiple comic series, so give me a break.)
543 CE: Four Decepticons, two Autobots, and a human from 1985 engage in a dispute between two knights, and then return home (time traveling courtesy of a magical wizard and dragon cave).
~1300s CE: Persians come across a Cybertronian weather device that crashed on Earth and use it to create the mystical Pearl of Bahoudin.
1984 CE: A volcanic eruption reactivates Teletraan 1 and the transformers regain consciousness after extensive repairs. From there, the Third Cybertronian War would continue on modern day planet Earth, with the Autobots protecting humanity from the evil forces of the Decepticons. Hilarity, violence, and delicious 80s cheese ensues. Oh, and a lot of fighting over crystals.
During a series of engagements between the Autobots and Decepticons, Cybertron is forcibly brought into Earth's orbit using recently developed space bridge technology. The planet is quickly removed from Earth's orbit, but remains within the Solar System for the following year, drifting away slowly.
At some point around this time, Megatron develops a secret contingency plan in the event the Decepticons lose the war, which he encodes on the Golden Disk and sends out into space aboard the Voyager 1 space probe. Said contingency contains the location of Earth, and calls for future Decepticon loyalists to use transwarp technology (which is currently still in developing) to go back in time and kill Optimus Prime.
1985 CE: Equally silly, but somewhat more plot relevant events occur including the discovery of an island of dinosaurs, various instances of time traveling, an outbreak of Cosmic Rust, multiple battles on other worlds, a slew of coups in the Decepticon ranks (all foiled), the reunion of the Autobots and their female counterparts, including Elita One, the merging of Alpha Trion with Vector Sigma, and the construction of various new transformers on both sides. Also around this time, a Martian invasion of Earth occurs, but is repelled by the combined forces of the Autobots and Decepticons.
Cybertron has drifted beyond the Solar System, but can still be reached via conventional space travel.
~1993 CE: Daniel Witwicky is born.
2001 CE: The Decepticons fully conquer Cybertron after coordinated assaults by Megatron and Shockwave crush the remaining Autobot resistance forces. The Autobots flee in a mass exodus to Earth, fortifying the world against Decepticons, as well as constructing a new series of bases, including Autobot City and outposts on Cybertron's twin moons.
2005 CE: The Battle of Autobot City begins after a Decepticon assault led by Megatron himself hijacks an Autobot shuttle en route to Earth. The fighting is the fiercest Earth has seen, with much of the senior Autobot and Decepticon forces killed or badly wounded in the battle. While the Autobots drove the Decepticons back, it was with heavy losses, including the death of Optimus Prime, who passed the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus. Starscream usurps command of the Decepticons by throwing Megatron and other wounded Decepticons into the vacuum of space, where they are found and turned into servants of the dark god Unicron. Megatron is reformatted into Galvatron and is tasked with finding and destroying the Matrix of Leadership, Unicron's only known weakness. Galvatron proceeds to kill Starscream at his own coronation and becomes supreme leader of the Decepticons. They then proceed to attack the recovering Autobots, who flee into the cosmos. Galvatron and his forces arrive on Junkion in pursuit of Ultra Magnus, and successfully take the Matrix, nearly killing him in the process. Galvatron then attempts to goad Unicron into following him, but to no avail. Angered, Unicron begins to attack Cybertron, eating two moon bases and killing legions of Decepticon defenders in a slaughter, including Shockwave. The remaining Autobots, driven by desperation, break their way inside of Unicron, and Hot Rod, a young and brash Autobot, uses the Matrix to destroy the Chaos Bringer and save Cybertron, becoming Rodimus Prime in the process, and assuming command of the Autobots. The Autobots, emboldened by their victory, launch an invasion of Cybertron and successfully route the remaining Decepticons, gaining control of the planet. The Decepticons flee to the desolate world of Chaar, and eek out a living on energon scraps. A few days later, the Quintessons become involved in the war and nearly retake Cybertron, but are foiled by Spike Witwicky. Around the same time, Rodimus Prime sends an expeditionary force aboard the Sojourner's Passage to the world of Archa Nine. They aren't seen again for hundreds of years.
2006 CE: Starscream's ghost cons Unicron into giving him a body, but is immediately fired upon by Decepticon forces. He was last seen tumbling into the space. Various other events of varying importance occur, with zany adventures across space, Cybertron, Earth, and different dimensions occuring. It is both terrible and awesome at the same time.
2007: Optimus Prime is brought back to life in order to help the Autobots counter the Hate Plague, a virus that causes all those infected to become hostile beyond the point of reason. Prime does indeed stop the Plague after assistance from his remaining uninfected Autobots, and a brief (and near deadly) excursion with Galvatron. Eventually, after going deep within the Matrix to learn how to cure the Plague, Optimus releases all the accumulated wisdom of the Matrix, and the plague is cured. A few months following, the Decepticons once again return to challenge the Autobots, bringing the two factions to the world of Nebulos. After a series of events involving several maniacal organics and robots, headmaster and targetmaster technology, as well as giant city sized robots, are developed by both sides in an effort to gain dominance over the other. During this time, the Decepticons briefly reconquer Cybertron and construct planetary engines, using them to bring Cybertron back into the Solar System. Galvatron, allying with the tyrannical dictators of Nebulos, the Hive, and their leader, Zarak, plans to override the Plasma Energy Chamber on Cybertron and destroy the Solar System. This is stopped by Spike Witwicky, who stops Galvatron's plot with the aid of multiple Nebulans. Before the sun can explode and destroy the solar system, Spike and the Nebulans prepare Vector Sigma to absorb the energy. This plan succeeds, and Cybertron is revitalized by the solar energy, ushering in a new Golden Age. Galvatron, Zarak, and their forces flee into the galaxy aboard the flying city bot, Scorponok, and bicker amongst themselves. Who would've guessed?
Cybertron eventually drifts out of the Sol System and gains a permanent position in another solar system, achieving an eccentric, but stable, orbit.
Sometime after the restoration of Cybertron, a bizarre adventure begins when the Decepticons invade the world Tau-Ursa, stealing a cannon capable of increasing or decreasing the potency of energon. The device is promptly used to destroy ALL of Cybertron's energon reserves, prompting the Autobots to aquire more from the wise, peace loving Logicons. This turns south, however, when the mysterious Destructons, led by Lord Imperious Delirious, attack the Autobots and Decepticons in the area, forcing an alliance to be declared. The results of this battle are inconclusive, and the legitimacy of this tale is dubious.
Later on, Optimus Prime converts into a new Power Master body, and recounts several stories he's lived (and died) through to a young boy named Tommy Kennedy. Various events interrupt their story time sessions, but Optimus always promises to return and make Tommy's day into an adventure.
~2015 CE: Daniel Witwicky and Wheelie are killed after they suicide bomb themselves in an attempt to destroy a horde of murderous Nightbird class robots created by Dr. Fujiyama. Daniel's death sends his close friend Arcee into a deep depression, and she retreats from public life, instead existing beneath Cybertron alone, driving her somewhat insane.
Late 21st Century and Beyond: The Decepticons are by and large defeated and forced to capitulate to the Autobots. The Predacons, led by Razorclaw, are outraged by this surrender and go about establishing a new army under the Predacon name, preparing to take war back to Cybertron. After uniting all those left willing to fight, Razorclaw led his Predacon/Decepticon Alliance in a war against the Autobots, nearly conquering Cybertron before being assassinated by the mysterious trio known as the Tripredacus Council. Under this tenure, the Alliance was put on the defensive, and many warlords began breaking away from the Alliance for the sake of personal glory.
One such warlord was Deathsaurus, who attempted to revitalize the Decepticons with an army of Insecticon clones. This plan was foiled, however, when a team of Autobots destroyed the facility and infected his remaining clones, rendering them useless.
During this period of time, numerous breakthroughs in technology allowed for the initiation of the Great Upgrade, a process that downsized the transformers into more fuel efficient bodies, with the added bonus of the ability to transform into organic life forms as well as machines. Those who underwent the procedure were dubbed Maximals and Predacons respectively, with most Autobots and Decepticons slowly fading out of public life, either retiring, gaining positions of power, or fading into myth and legend.
Eventually, most Decepticons finally surrendered and abandoned the Alliance, retiring from the conflict and accepting defeat. As a result, the Tripredacus Council calls for an armistice, and the emergent Maximals place a strict series of accords on their foes, including economic sanctions and a population limit.
50 Stellar Cycles Later: The Maximal Elders (former Autobots) and the Tripredacus Council are on the verge of signing the Pax Cybertronia, a unilateral peace treaty that would leave the Autobots and Maximals as the uncontested victors of the Great Wars, and the Predacons as a defeated underclass. Various Predacon insurgents rebel against the Tripredacus Council in bids of conquest, making them targets of the Maximal military, who deploy soldiers across the galaxy in order to stamp them out. One such squad led by Wing Saber is deployed in the J'kozian Sector, where a Decepticon named Flamewar leads a planet hopping campaign in the guise of the original Megatron. She is defeated and the Pax Cybertronia is signed, ending all conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, and by extension their Maximal and Predacon descendents. The two emergent factions are organized under the Maximal Imperium and Predacon Alliance respectively, with the latter subservient to the former. The two nations enter a cold war for the next three centuries, with both sides gearing up for the inevitable next conflict. At the same time, transwarp technology is perfected, giving the Transformers the ability to traverse space and time. As a result, the Maximal Elders heavily restrict information regarding the Great War, and the location of Earth is kept top secret in order to avoid tampering with the timeline.
*Note: Many Cybertronian historians treat Razorclaw's insurrection, the rise of the Tripredacus Council, and the ultimate defeat of the Decepticons and Predacons as one or many conflicts separate from the Great War itself, which is generally regarded as ending when the majority of Decepticons laid down their arms. Confusingly, however, others tend to lump all of these events as part of the Great War, with the signing of the Pax Cybertronia bringing about it's end. Due to these conflicting accounts of when the Great War ended, and a lack of solid information regarding the timeframe, the events following the Rebirth are presented in the way that I find makes the most logical sense. While I strive for accuracy, I realize the confusing nature of the time period, and apologize for any confusion.
311 AU (After Unicron): The Maximals, in an attempt to replicate something akin to Starscream's immortal spark, develop Protoform X. Protoform X proceeds to massacre the colony of Omnicron and Star Base Rugby, killing all inhabitants except the colony's Imperial Peace Marshall, Depth Charge. He would proceed to hunt Protoform X relentlessly for four years.
315 AU: Depth Charge captures Protoform X and hands him over to the Maximal Elders, who place him in a stasis pod to be dumped on a barren world. The pod is loaded aboard the colony ship Axalon in an attempt to quietly contain the entire issue. Meanwhile, former Decepticon and current crime boss Cryotech orders Megatron (a Predacon who named himself after the legendary figure Megatron from the Covenant of Primus) to steal the Golden Disk, which is being held by the Maximals for the sake of preserving history. Before Cryotech can get the disk, however, Megatron cons him and gets him taken into custody by the Maximal Command Security Force. Megatron and his gang of criminals, claiming the disk for themselves, then steal a transwarp ship, the Darksyde, but are pursued by the Axalon and it's captain, Optimus Primal. Both ships end up time traveling to prehistoric Earth, and the Beast Wars ensue. Depth Charge begins tracking the ships and eventually time travels back to prehistoric Earth to deal with Protoform X. Elsewhere, the Tripredacus Council, the leading body in the Predacon Alliance, view Megatron as a threat to their plans of a slow and steady rise to power, and dispatch Ravage to kill everyone involved. Back on Cybertron, a Quantum Cycle Upgrade occurs, fitting the population with built-in DNA scanners, making protoforms obsolete. As the victorious Maximals depart prehistoric Earth and venture back to Cybertron, the mysterious Vok create a being known a Primal Prime and revive several Maximals to combat Tarantulas, an agent of Unicron and the Tripredacus Council, and his followers. The two groups battle for control of the Matrix of Leadership, and Primal Prime's group emerges victorious, eventually making their way back to Cybertron.
316 AU: Optimus Primal and his crew return to Cybertron via transwarp, but Megatron escapes captivity during the journey and arrives on Cybertron earlier than the Maximal crew. He then stages a series of terrorist attacks, eventually culminating with a bomb that releases a virus that incapacitates all transformers on the planet, allowing Megatron to become leader of an army of Vehicons, drones built from the corpses of disabled transformers, powered by their very sparks, and controlled via hive mind. Primal and his forces are affected by the bomb upon their return, unable to transform and experiencing amnesia. They are reformatted by the Oracle, who give them new technorganic bodies and task them with combating Megatron. At the same time, Primal Prime and his crew return to Cybertron and reform the Wreckers, a resistance group headed by Primal Prime and Rodimus (who is now a Maximal). They are tasked by the Oracle to find the Divine Light, an ancient Quintesson plot device said to be hidden on Archa Nine. There they find Tap-Out and Glyph, the two surviving members of the Sojourner's Passage. Later on, Optimus Primal discovers the true organic origins of Cybertron and plunges himself and Megatron into the planet's organic core, reformatting the entire world into a technorganic paradise, while also freeing the captured sparks of the transformers Megatron captured with his virus. Three months later, a returning Cryotech and the Quintessons invade Cybertron, but are repelled. Cryotech and Primal Prime (now called Sentinel Maximus after merging with the Wrecker Apelinq) end up in different dimensions while Rodimus dies after suffering heavy wounds from Cyclonus, a surviving member of Galvatron's forces from the Great War.
317 AU: One year later, a ship full of veteran Autobots (and at least one Decepticon) returns to Cybertron, but the crew mysteriously vanishes, abducted by a returning Unicron. Not long after begins the Universe War, a conflict that ravaged the entire multiverse. Optimus Primal is revived to lead the Children of Primus against the Minions of Unicron, however this revival also resurrected Megatron.
During the Universe War: As the conflict raged on, the battles became more and more heated, rivaling the Great War in ferocity. Cybertron remained stable for a time, but eventually fell victim to Unicron's forces in an event known as the Culling. Unicron's minions cut a swath across Cybertron, killing all in their path, including the Maximal High Council. Megatron, who had been gathering his forces during the chaos of the genocide, openly began fighting against Primal, but soon allied with him to fight against Unicron.
?? AU: During a raid against Unicron, the chaos bringer began to disappear due to the Unicron Singularity (another plot device from a different reality) appearing in another universe, resulting in victory for the forces of Primus. Elsewhere, Razorclaw (who has been revived from the dead after his assassination centuries ago) heads a massive Predacon army that is prepared to permanently crush the Maximals. Megatron and his forces also stand ready, likely making the victory against Unicron very short lived for the forces of good. Primal has got his work cut out for him.
