It SHOULDN'T be good. It's the most ultra-nerdy, die-hard, continuity-centric show built off a cult comic book from 30 years ago. Yet I find it more engrossing and captivating than anything since Breaking Bad.
So what happens when the world's smartest man, already an amoral mass-murdering sociopath, starts getting cranky and eccentric in old age and isolation?

There is ABSOLUTELY no way that character would do that. Its so contrary to the very essence of the character I have to seriously question if they even read the book (or watched the movie).

I disagree about Veidt.
This is a man who enjoys being called "the smartest man in the world." He's fed by his ego. In the comic, he's all too happy to brag about his master plan to the "other heroes" he sees as inferior to him. Just because he waits until after his plan is executed to monologue "like a Republic serial villain" doesn't mean he can resist claiming full credit.
So, this is us finding out he did it again. He made a recording crowing about his master plan, bragging again about how no one but him could have pulled it off, and made sure the President would see it only after the plan completed successfully. Again, his ego meant he couldn't resist.
This isn't the character suddenly becoming incompetent. It's the character succumbing to the same flaws evident in his comic incarnation.

The only loose end is what Redford did with the video. And note that the video didn't leak until after Veidt was put in space prison.

i just cannot get over how amazing this weeks ep.was. The changes to his costume and stuff was really important. More of that whole "black and white" worldview of so many characters being literally drawn out in black and white, perfect.
