A spiritual and branded successor to left 4 dead: 4 player coop in during a zombie apocalypse, utilizing the characters, basic locations and context of the movie (not the novel!).
And frankly, it's fun as hell. The hordes are pretty massive, but almost all the arenas you get caught in use barricades of some kind to force the zombies (I know, I know, not actually zombies.) to trickle in, more or less, while still maintaining the illusion of masses of them. It also sports a class and weapon experience system, meaning you unlock class traits and upgraded weapons as you use stuff. You get better as you play. Now, when I say "successor" I mean it. It builds nicely on what L4D did way back when, and adds it's own twist. Granted, there's only so many varieties of special infected you can make and the bull is a hugton less threatening than a tank was, but still. They could have made this game WITHOUT the "WWZ" branding, and still have had a massively fun title on their hands. And the classes make it easier for you find a base loadout that more or less fits your play style and habits. And while each chapter has different characters in it (four playable a piece.) the characters themselves aren't locked to a class, so you randomly draw a person and then play your class.
I was recently thinking some L4D would be nice, and then my friend pops up with this. I was not disappointed. It's a good game; great graphics, smooth play for the most part. I'll admit (and understand I use a controller.) that the controls were a touch confusing for the first little bit since there is (of course.) no tutorial that I've found so far. But the HUD shows most of what you need, and the rest is just pushing buttons. The xbox controller layout is actually pretty good, and not far from some games I was already playing, so it all fell into place pretty quick.
Which, of course, leads me to my usual questions! Is anyone else playing, and what do you think? It's currently only on Epic, and I know that's a turn off for some folks.
