@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 07:01 PM)

Does germany make it quick and easy to see a doctor too? Cause an emergency doctor visit can take two weeks out here, and an emergency ROOM visit can take 18-24 hours.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:43 PM)

(Good thing is, under German law, if you call in sick during your vacation and see a doctor immediately, you get to keep your vacation days.)

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:42 PM)

Too bad. My plans wee to do two more overtime hours before having my last day of vacation for the year on Friday. Oh well.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:41 PM)

So I'm currently on medical leave for a particularly stupid reason: Burned my back with a hot-water bag while sleeping last night. Though the doctor said I'm hardly the first person to have this happen to them.

@  Patch : (13 November 2019 - 06:11 PM)

Just a particularly odious example of the 90s era of depicting transgender women as either the subject of crude humor, or "Jerry Springer" material.

@  Ashley : (13 November 2019 - 04:55 PM)

I think Ace Ventura legit contributed to me spending years in self denial. I will never be ok with Jim Carrey.

@  Benbot : (13 November 2019 - 01:22 PM)

I thought he since changed his tune.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (13 November 2019 - 12:51 PM)

Jim Carry Paladin?

@  Maximus Ambus : (13 November 2019 - 12:22 PM)

Don't doubt what he can do. Sonic the Hedgehog!

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 11:51 AM)

not giving a dime to a transphobic antivaxxer.

@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 11:25 AM)

It'll be a terrible movie if jim carrey phones it in. Otherwise it should be decent.

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 10:45 AM)

sonics' still gonna be a terrible movie but at least they whined loud enough to make him look passable for a 2-minute trailer. "yay."

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:37 AM)

But of course to annoying people there's no such thing as different decisions made for different reasons, there is only "I like it so it's right" and "I don't like it so it's wrong."

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:35 AM)

Even if we pretend it's objective truth that they were both bad, then they were bad in very different ways.

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:33 AM)

Sonic's previous movie design looked genuinely bad. The Transformers '07 designs just looked insufficiently like what certain loud and obnoxious parts of the fandom think Transformers are required to always look like.

@  Otaku : (13 November 2019 - 08:50 AM)

Um... Purple Monkey Dishwasher?

@  TheMightyMol... : (13 November 2019 - 08:25 AM)

Do we really need to have Every Movie Transformer Thread Ever in the Squawkbox?

@  Bass X0 : (13 November 2019 - 08:13 AM)

Sure it made money but that doesn’t mean it has appealing character designs. Lot of god awful fugly faces in the Transformers movies.

@  Otaku : (12 November 2019 - 08:25 PM)

@Liege My issue with Transformers (2007) were elements I thought were unnecessary.  I know it was supposed to just be a joke, but I didn't ever need to hear about "Sam's Happy Time". >.> Which, being in awe of the first "live action" TF-film, didn't even register until I'd already purchased and watched it on DVD a few times (after seeing it in theaters 3 times).

@  Liege : (12 November 2019 - 08:22 PM)

For all the Bayisms in the 07 movie, it was tempered by Spielberg as producer. Designs aside it was an enjoyable popcorn blockbuster about a boy and his first car who happens to be an alien from another planet. They sequels are just Bay going unchecked after he proved how much bank he could bring in.

@  TM2-Megatron : (12 November 2019 - 07:12 PM)

I didn't find the designs in the '07 movie to be that bad, personally. What got really offputting was how Cybertronians in general become such huge a-holes in the later films; the designs were very much secondary to their horrible personalities

@  Sabrblade : (12 November 2019 - 06:59 PM)

And yet, Transformers still broke the bank at the box office, opened up the brand to a whole new generation of fans, shot the brand up to mainstream appeal, and enabled all kinds of new collector-oriented lines and other avenues to come about. Not saying Sonic's movie will do the same for his series, but the 2007 TF movie certainly did more good than harm.

@  Bass X0 : (12 November 2019 - 06:09 PM)

Paramount changed Sonic due to fan backlash but refused to redo Transformers 2007 with new cgi appearances based on their classic forms everyone’s knows and loves, and can relate to. Trailer 1 Sonic is as appealing a design as 2007 Bumblebee...

@  TheMightyMol... : (12 November 2019 - 02:14 PM)

I don't. They're a pain in the ass to repair.

@  Benbot : (12 November 2019 - 12:48 PM)

I wish car companies would bring back flip up headlights

@  TheMightyMol... : (12 November 2019 - 09:07 AM)

Wear a hazmat suit. It's Walmart, they're used to weird.

@  wonko the sane? : (12 November 2019 - 07:54 AM)

2 inches of snow on the side of the house, 2 feet of snow on the deck. I hate this winter already.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (11 November 2019 - 11:33 PM)

But that requires actually going IN walmart. ;P

@  Liege : (11 November 2019 - 11:22 PM)

Pro tip for anyone hunting the for the Walmart 35th exclusives: try the seasonal aisles rather than the toy section. I found the display with all the exclusives and a bunch of the reflector wave practically untouched amongst those novelty arcade machines and a bunch of frozen merch.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (11 November 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Although that does spark an idea for me. In a new continuity, Censere the Necrobot could be the herald Cityspeaker for Quintessa the Necrotitan just to play on their monikers utilizing Greek for dead, nekrós.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (11 November 2019 - 09:26 PM)

I hate to burst your bubble, Maximus Ambus, but 90% of things said in IDW turned out to be amnesiac half-rememberings courtesy of Adaptus or outright lies courtesy of Shockwave.

@  Jenny : (11 November 2019 - 08:54 AM)

The toy's designed to look like Wipe-Out, anyway.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (11 November 2019 - 08:14 AM)

Didn't they try to retcon that into a figure of speech because that connection went against everybody else's long-term plans?

@  Maximus Ambus : (11 November 2019 - 03:53 AM)

There's still some connection given Trypticon was created by Mortilus.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (11 November 2019 - 12:12 AM)

Yeah that toy doesn't exactly look like Necrobot.

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 08:24 PM)

But.... it's just "Necro" not "Necrobot".

@  TheMightyMol... : (10 November 2019 - 05:10 PM)

But why does the God of Death need a giant space kaiju? Wait, never mind, answered my own question.

@  Maximus Ambus : (10 November 2019 - 02:15 PM)

Yowza I just realised Titans Trypticon comes with Necro AKA Censere AKA Mortilus.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:15 PM)

I... think the best equivalent would actually be the British "There is room for improvement".

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:15 PM)

There's always a sense of irony to it, but what the ratio between irony (you really failed) and straightworwardness (at least you achieved something) is depends on the situation and the speaker.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:12 PM)

The meaning can be both literal (you succeed on one level but fail on another), or it can be utterly ironic (you fail in every regard but the most technical; or even worse, "you really gave your best"), and anything in between.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:10 PM)

For example: A singer can hit the notes really well, but clearly isn't a native speaker and what little of the lyrics you can make out sounds nothing like what it's supposed to be.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 November 2019 - 01:06 PM)

The premise seems to be the mixing of technical and aesthetic technical qualities towards the overall success.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 November 2019 - 01:05 PM)

But both "hollow victory" and pyrrhic victory" are referring to having lost as much as you've gained. IE; a battle was won but both armies were destroyed. The town being seiged is victorious, but all the soldiers are still dead. Nevermore's concept is more "You did it, but it's so ugly we don't know if you actually succeeded".

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 11:35 AM)

Alternately, one could probably also call it a "hollow victory".

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 11:35 AM)

Example: In the Powerpuff Girls episode "Uh Oh Dynamo", the monster-of-the-day was a really tough, giant-size one that required the use of a really destructive mech to defeat it. While the monster was ultimately beaten, the city of Townsville was utterly trashed by the mech's weapons in the process. So, while the city was saved from the monster, it was harmed even worse by the mech that saved it, making the victory bittersweet.

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 11:32 AM)

@Nevermore, sounds to me like what one might call a "bittersweet victory". The goal was met, but at great cost or by disastrous result that call into question if the achieved goal could even be called a success.

@  Arvegtor : (10 November 2019 - 09:40 AM)

Seems to be close enough to "Pyrrhic victory"

@  NotVeryKnightly : (10 November 2019 - 09:37 AM)

What do you get from putting the German term through a translator?

@  wonko the sane? : (10 November 2019 - 08:57 AM)

That is a ridiculously interesting concept. But I don't think english has a singular term for what you're describing.

I think it was more of a recent development/discovery since there have been some years between 2 & 3.

Rather than move forward, I decided to spend my time today starting all over and using Moze.

The mech-bear isn't as overpowered as I had expected.  I do enjoy basically using it as a saving throw.

I think I still prefer using Zane's Digi-Clone + Drone combo.  It puts more weapons on the battle field, and they can continue killing shit while I run for my life.

There was an update when I booted up my Xbox today.  I'm wondering if maybe they made some balance changes.  When I played Mouthpiece again, I pretty much stomped the snot out of him without dying once.  This was a major difference from my first go-around with Zane, where I thought I wouldn't be able to beat him ever.  I'm curious to see how Killajolt plays out on my new run.

Haha - that's the route I'm going right now.  Mainly, because of all of the Torgue cross-over abilities.

I heart me some Torgue shotguns.

Yeah, I definitely think that the update nerfed a bit of the Normal difficulty.  I got through Killavolt on my first try at Level 16 (He was 17), and Traunt wasn't nearly so spammy with his AoE blasts.  And I haven't been gang-banged by three Badasses on the screen at once at all.  I had two on Athenas, but that was a massive, all-out invasion force.

Stopped at Level 19 for the weekend after killing Traunt.  I wish I had more time to play.  Stoopid work.  Stoopid having to pay bills.

I'm enjoying my new play through much more.  I'm dying a lot less and not nearly as frustrated getting to where I am now as I was the first time.  I think I'm going to go track down the update release notes because I really want to know if they truly re-blanaced the difficulty or if I just got a lot better at the game after spending ~50 hours on Zane.

Beat the game, unlocked mayhem.  Currently level 38.

Love this game.  it is exactly what i've been needing.  Irreverent, funny, and while the stakes are serious there is always something to laugh at and show they're taking nothing seriously.  I appreciate that.

Time to rate this game!

Alright I can finally rate Borderlands 3 it gets a 8 out of 10 *everyone gasps* calm down and put down the pitch forks lets go over it

Gameplay: Its solid shooting is perfect and the new vaulting and sliding mechanics add to the over all combat experience I love getting into high places and picking off enemies at a distance making snipers riles much better to use on the flip side though enemy placement and behavioral patterns are fairly predictable staleing the other wise flawless combat some

Graphics: This game looks as good as it plays the new map system is way better then before making sure you know where you want to go and looking good in style new flourishes like gun skins and trinkets hung off your gun gives you new visual elements the new planets add a verity to the game though Eden-6 reminds of the Dungeon Keep DLC a tad to much, and we know Pandora has a rich ecosystem and its not all dust and rocks I would of liked to see that more

Sound: The sounds and music are perfect Voice Acting is still top notch save for some of the very repetitive lines of the inhabitants of your ship

Story: This is the area with the most contention first off lets start with the cast a ton of characters we previous met and love OR played as are just not here or very under used Dr Zed, Gage and host of other are a no show and the characters that are here are underused Tina and Brick and co dont even join you on your ship there for a sec and then just kinda gone.

Who we do focus on is fine this is a Lilth and Tannis story through and through so if you like those two character you will be ok.

New characters (well new to the main series and NOT ported over form Tails from Borderlands) include newbie Ava she can be hit or miss with players.

And the overall story is not what I thought we would get... at the end of the Pre Sequel and the end of BL2 I was promised a war was coming so when this game first trailers and announcement came out I thought the COV and the twins where just an opening act to larger game and that Gearbox was holding back the real meat of the story...but no the COV is what we get but the way the story is structured its very samey in how each story beat plays out. and the enemies you fight all very much the same 4 types of bandits

So this is the game sits at a 8 out of 10

Oh man, I just killed the shit out of Katagawa with Moze.  And I didn't even use the Action Skill once.

I got this purple Level 22 Dahl pistol that shoots for 110 damage, and that's right up there with most Sniper Rifles around that level or even Jakob's pistols.

Only, Dahl shoots much faster and has a larger magazine.

I also got my first orange weapon on my Moze run from a Typhon cache.  It's an Atlas machine gun, and while it's neat that the tracking dart does decent damage, and all of the smart bullets land as critical hits, the damage per bullet is pretty low (like 26, I think?).  So it still take a lot of pepper to take down even a basic enemy.

I did have a hard crash on the game, though.  I was fast travelling back to Sanctuary from Promethea and no shit, my XBox just shut off all of the sudden.

I had a game freeze a couple of days ago hopping out of a vehicle, but this one is probably the worst crash that I've ever had.  Like worse than Fallout 4 crashes.  Thankfully, my save file wasn't corrupted or anything.

Awesome.  After Orange rarity got amped up from the patch a couple of weeks ago, I've been getting pretty lucky.  The two weapons crates inside Wainwright's estate both yielded an orange.  The better of the two is basically a shotgun that shoots at the speed of a machine gun.  It only has a 10-round drum, but since Moze has an ability that allows rounds to chamber back in sometimes I can get quite a few shots off before reloading.

I switched back to Zane today.  Holy carp, make sure you spend all your money before trying to take on Troy.  His ability to spam 360 attacks one right after another easily destroyed my shields and most of my health (4,000 Shields/2,500 Health).  To add insult to injury, if you don't kill the underlings that spawn around him immediately during FFYL, you'll be dead because his 360 spam kills all of the underlings around him.  Oh, and I got him about 50% down, and my game froze and had to be restarted.  I did finally beat him after about 10 tries.  Having a Torgue Shotgun (grenade launcher) that shoots a single round for 1200+ damage helps because the splash damage supplements your inability to properly aim while you're constantly dodging the 360 spam.  Don't turn your back to Troy, either.  It's hard not to be able to run for your life, but you won't last long if you can't see the spamming 360 attack.

Oh, and I almost rage quit the game forever trying to get the Radio in the Cathedral of the Twin Gods map.  You are supposed to jump for this pipe, but it's at an angle.  If you're on PC, then it's not as bad because you can just use the mouse to look right while you're moving forward to mitigate the angle.  On a console controller, you can't really do that as easily.  I finally found out that if I jump blindly to the left, I'm at the correct angle to grab the pipe.  I must have tried 50 times before I got it right.  Ironically, the first time I tried, I actually did the jump as a fluke, but I messed up afterwards and fell down.  I'm honestly not enjoying the platforming piece of Borderlands.  It's easily the worst part of the game.

Finally beat it at Level 47.

I gave up on the Torgue circle of death or whatever.  I always hated those kinds of missions.  Zane doesn't handle crowd control very well, and once there are 2-3 badasses on the screen, he's pretty much dead meat.

I felt the ending was a little anti-climactic.  Fighting Tyreen was way easier than fighting Troy.  Like not even close.  I murdered the shit out of her.  Oh, and I somehow ended up with two of the same guns that I got from Veronica (Claptrap's gf-bot).  I think I might have gotten the second one out of a Typhon dead-drop, but I don't think so.  I think my game bugged, but in a good way.  It was an orange Tediore pistol that's a freeze-spammer on reload.  It's a pretty cool get.  I wonder if it's random, though.  When I got the last Moxxxi sabotage radio station completed, she sent me a skin for a Siren.  Thanks, Moxxx... just what Zane needed.  I'm hoping that's a random get.  Maybe when I finish out Moze, I'll get something more useful.
