Don't frustrate yourself OR her for it. Just keep the camera ready and if it happens, it happens.

I'll probably try waving treats in front of her and whistling it, see if I can encourage it

@  Ashley : (23 October 2019 - 12:14 AM)

I'll try. She's not the most obedient bird, so it's going to take some work to get her to do it on demand.

In fact; we demand video.

@  Steevy Maximus : (22 October 2019 - 06:10 PM)

Yeah, I think both are too old and too expensive at this stage. Hasbro/Paramount are going to try for younger actors that can do multiple films AND can be locked into a multifilm contract cheaply

@  Paladin : (22 October 2019 - 06:05 PM)

so he'd probably be sixty by the time they get to another GI Joe project.

@  Patch : (22 October 2019 - 06:04 PM)

According to Wikipedia he's 51.

@  Paladin : (22 October 2019 - 05:38 PM)

isn't Crews like sixty now???

@  wonko the sane? : (22 October 2019 - 02:11 PM)

... I could get behind that.

@  RichardT1977 : (22 October 2019 - 12:33 PM)

Who thinks that, in the event of a GI Joe cinematic reboot, John Cena and Terry Crews would be perfect for Duke and Roadblock, respectively?

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 05:17 PM)

nevermind

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:59 PM)

I've barely used them over the years, so I'm sure they won't miss me, but I'm done too. Thankfully Pulse put up the Seacons today.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:58 PM)

i didnt complete it, which is why this is confusing and pi$$ing me off. theres no record of it in my order history. i emailed them about it, so we will see what happens. either way, i think im done using them after this

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:55 PM)

Either we're both unlucky or they're trying to force payment now for these takaratomy mall exclusives.

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:55 PM)

I asked them to kindly undo that and I got a sternly worded email about how I should use their website right.

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:55 PM)

Yeah, if you completed the order, they charged you the money now. Mine said stack before I finished checking out. I only noticed I was charged because of Paypal.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:53 PM)

i wasnt even wanting to pay now. i was going to add them to my stack but i didnt get the chance after i was done setting up paypal

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:53 PM)

If you haven't officially placed the order, I don't think so? Although, I had to request a cancellation with them last week because their system changed details about my order after I placed it, so I don't exactly trust them.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:51 PM)

so im not actually being charged then?

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:48 PM)

So, if you were one click away from purchasing, then they probably did the pre-authorization already. The next click will charge you the money now.

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:47 PM)

TFsource charges upfront for regular pre-orders.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:45 PM)

i was considering buying the upcoming seacons from tfsource. i had them in my cart and was on the checkout page. i set up a credit card through paypal, and before i even hit the "place order" button, i got a text saying that a charge or hold was placed on my card! is this normal? is it just checking to see if i have the money? why did it do it before i even placed the order??

So whenever he addresses his troops, he keeps cracking jokes. Sometimes these jokes are about the blunders he himself had made in his speech the previous day.

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 01:01 PM)

At the moment, I'm blessed with a pretty nice superior. He's got a military background, but he takes an oddly entertaining approach to it. Imagine a stand-up comedian who accidentally enlisted as a drill sergeant.

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 12:54 PM)

Another type of everyday absurdity: Imagine you're leaving your workplace for your lunchbreak. Upon your return, you discover that your workplace has been cordened and/or gated off during your break, with "construction site" warning signs everywhere. You go to your superior and tell him: "I can no longer access my workplace! Why is there suddenly a construction site?" Your superior takes a surpised look and says: "I don't know, first time I see this." You figure: "Must be a Tuesday, then."

It's kind of surreal, really.

I manage to argue within the company's own internal logic and point out the flaws, shortcomings and discrepancies between "official company policy" and "everyday company reality".

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 04:40 AM)

Many of my coworkers are scared to even talk to managers. I often discuss company matters with them I disagree with, and it isn't a rare occurrence that they say "yeah, you're right..."

The good thing for me is ever since a minor hiccup many years ago when I was still non-permanent, I've always managed to along just fine with my various superiors (I've been through over a dozen already). And that's despite my outspokenness, my blunt honesty and my oftentimes harsh criticism.

thats right! i booked my trip just a few minutes ago! on september 4th, lil ol telly is heading for fun in the sun on the beaches of waikiki! i NEVER thought id be able to do something like this! i always thought itd be too expensive, but its actually fairly cheap ($1500 round trip and for the hotel)

i started planning this last year. i realized i was spending all my money on THINGS, and always sitting around the house when on vacation. i didnt have any fun experiences or adventures to look back on. well i decided to put an end to that! ive got a fairly good paying job, a good credit card limit (which i used to pay for the trip) and im 44 years old. i figured it was time to do SOMETHING. im finally going to take a REAL vacation!

i cant wait and im so excited!!!!!

Congrats! Here are some things you must try:

1. Leonard's Bakery (malasadas)

2. Rainbow Drive-In (plate lunch)

3. Marukame Udon (chicken tempura)

4. Eggs 'n Things (loco moco)

There are probably things to do there besides eat, too, I never checked.

That bit you said about spending on things instead of experiences? Totally true. I thought I was being practical by wanting tangible things but more often than not, it's the experiences that you treasure more.

Awesome! One thing I've learned about traveling-be very very careful with impulse buys and tourist traps. Be sure to stretch your legs during the flight. Get to the airport at least 3hrs early. Carry photocopies of your passport just in case. Don't carry all your cash on one spot. Study up on local customs. Don't try to cram your schedule too much, leave some time to get lost and chill.

I'll second Marukami Udon - although, depending on the time of day, you may have to wait in queue.

Hanauma Bay is great for snorkelling, and if you get there right when it opens, it's free entry (and not nearly as crowded as later on in the day).  "Toilet Bowl" is the section of the bay on the far-left side of the beach that doesn't get as much traffic, and despite the name, it's a nice spot to start out in.

Definitely spend some time driving around the East side of the island, even it's just to circle back to the airport to drop off the rental.  There are some really nice scenic views - it's where they filmed Jurassic Park, after all.

im not really planning on doing anything in advance (like pre-buying tickets). at least not yet anyway. i may add some things as time gets closer.  im just gonna wander around to see what catches my interest. i wont be renting a car, but i will be renting a scooter. i love riding those things. might spend a day just scooting around and taking pics. ill go snorkeling at least once though. cant go to hawaii and not do that. i MIGHT trying parasailing. will have to see how brave i am when im there. but bungee jumping is RIGHT OUT! i get nervous just watching other people do it. i HAVE to spend time at the beach. ive never even seen an ocean, let alone been in one. when im on the beach with a nice drink just lounging around im gonna send my boss a selfie

one thing im really looking forward to, is seeing my first hawaiian sunset. i dont know why im looking forward to it so much, but there we are. the hotel im staying at (the ilima hotel) has a terrace on the roof, so im just gonna get a drink or 2, find a comfy chair and watch the sun go down :) i did read some reviews of the hotel and some people complained about the pool being small. the hug you need a pool when the hugging OCEAN is TWO BLOCKS AWAY?

for those that have been there, any tips on what i should take with me? i dont have much at the moment. ive got a pair of sandals, some puzzle books for the plane and a waterproof fanny pack for when im swimming. gotta make sure nothing gets stolen! i figure id buy sunscreen when im there, as im sure theyll have the appropriate kind to use (something about it being coral safe).

oh yeah. my little skeleton is going with me, and i bought him a nice little rocking chair so he can sit on the balcony with me

We had an excellent time there.

We stayed in the Hilton Waikiki right on the water which was lovely. It was also easily within walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants. Definitely touristy, but not bad. It reminded me of Miami-meets-Vegas. We did have a rental which was good to have - though I guess a scooter will get you where you need to go, it might just take a bit. Bonus, parking will be much easier for you; I paid more to park our rental at the hotel than I paid for the rental itself. Free street parking is available, but VERY hard to find.

We went to the Kapi'olani Regional Park, which is the dormant volcano on the southern tip of the island. It was an old army base and you can hike up to the ridge and walk through parts of the command tower and stuff. Obviously fantastic views. We also did a short hike up to Manoa Falls which was pretty. The falls themselves weren't anything dramatic, but it was just a pleasant excursion. Passed on Pearl Harbor because a good chunk of it is closed right now (including the memorial itself).

We took one day to go up to the North Shore, where we went to CLIMB Works Keana Farms Zipline tour. HIGHLY recommended because it gets you a brief history lesson of Hawaii in addition to some incredible views of that end of the island. Eight ziplines over all one of which is a half-mile long! There are a bunch of permanent food trucks right there by CLIMB Works, but they all close around 4pm. However if you follow 83 up around the northern tip of the island, there were a bunch of other options still open later in the day. That made a great place to watch the sun set over the Pacific.

As for food, we ate at MAC 24/7 which was a diner-type place in a hotel (good, if not overly exciting). Shorefyre in the International Marketplace was also good. Other meals were at various food trucks or some of the smaller shops around our hotel.

I would've liked to do more hiking, but my wife isn't as big a fan. That being said, she was obviously quite happy with the beach time, so it was a great trip over all.

If you need glasses to see, get some tethers for them so you don't have to worry about a wave knocking them off in the ocean, hat, sun glasses and beach towel. Some kind of opaque drink container to take alcohol to the beach in. Depending on what and how you pack, you may be better of buying some or all of this stuff there, as paying for an extra checked bag is expensive.

Try a Loco moco. It's a delicious food pile. We went to a lu ow or however its spelled. It was pretty great, open bar, dancing, food, music.

We did lots of hiking, it's beautiful, fun and costs little to nothing depending on where you go.

the hotel ill be at has free parking, but its first come first serve. and like i said, i just love riding a scooter! and i dont mind it taking longer to get places on one. im not gonna be in ANY rush getting anywhere. my life is already governed by a clock due to work, so itll be nice not having to worry about having to be somewhere at a certain time (except for my ride home of course!)

i read about the volcano/army base. it sounds interesting

id like to go to the pearl harbor memorial, if only to take pics for my dad since he was in the navy. i did see it was closed, but hopefully itll be open when im there

ill have to try the zipline. probly the closest ill come to feeling like batman! im confused though. does the zipline place close at 4, or just the food trucks?

If you need glasses to see, get some tethers for them so you don't have to worry about a wave knocking them off in the ocean, hat, sun glasses and beach towel. i do wear glasses, and thats one of the reasons for the waterproof pouch. i dont plan to actually wear them while im in the water, but i dont want someone to make off with them. god thatd suck! i CAN see without them a bit, but if i lost them id miss all the sites. maybe i should look into getting another pair just in case...

ive got clip on sunglasses, so im good there. a lot of stuff i plan to buy when i get there so theyll say "hawaii" or whatever on them

Throw stuff into lava at every possible opportunity.

i mean, i do plan to visit a volcano. dont know about getting close enough to toss stuff in though

Bring empty room in your suitcase for souvenirs.

was already planning on it. im thinking of putting up a jar at work for people to put money in for souvenirs, then take all that and buy them all whatever i can

thanks for all the good advice :) if anyone comes up with more things go ahead and do so. ill be keeping an eye on and updating this thread every now and again. when i actually get there, be on the look out for the "holy crap im actually IN hawaii" thread!

Oahu doesn't have active volcanoes, they've all moved on to the big island.

If you do the zipline at CLIMB Works, you have to reserve a time as they send you out in groups. It's a good couple of hours to do the whole thing. The restaurants nearby close at four, so if you have a slot in the afternoon, everything will be shutting down by the time you're finished. But again, plenty more options further up the road around the northern tip of the island.

Ah, there's also one point where you have to pull yourself up to another platform with the help of a rope and pulleys. I assume your guides would help you too, but just so you're aware. Still, if you meet the restrictions, it's definitely worth it!
