@  Rycochet : (17 January 2020 - 06:15 PM)

I both love and hate that the Alien franchise seems to have had more luck finding a niche as a line of children's toys than it has at producing worthwhile films.

@  Donocropolis : (17 January 2020 - 06:35 AM)

I've seen them on the shelves at Walmart. They're pretty great looking retro Aliens toys. https://www.walmart....-Vary/934039489

@  fourteenwings : (17 January 2020 - 01:11 AM)

IIRC somebody on here mentioned an unbranded Alien toy a couple of weeks ago? It seems like it was actually part of a collection for the Alien movie series by Lanard. Mattel's making some stuff too.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 January 2020 - 03:12 PM)

Is it really a worse name than say, HMS Spanker?

@  Maximus Ambus : (16 January 2020 - 02:36 PM)

'Boaty McBoatface' was a actual thing?! Wow.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (14 January 2020 - 02:00 PM)

Might be worth bringing back this thread.

@  ThunderWear : (14 January 2020 - 01:53 PM)

Of course I had the idea to download all the pdfs like a week too late. Anyone got an archive?

@  Steevy Maximus : (14 January 2020 - 12:48 PM)

The Collector Club is dead. Seems like it all came down shortly after New Year

@  ThunderWear : (13 January 2020 - 11:06 PM)

I can't get to the collector club website. anyone else? I was literally going to download all the fiction to finish reading.

@  Maximus Ambus : (13 January 2020 - 04:50 AM)

News today is all 'there's a CHANCE it would snow in July' and 'dogs COULD bite back'.

@  Benbot : (12 January 2020 - 10:05 PM)

Holy crap, do many people get hurt by them?

@  wonko the sane? : (12 January 2020 - 02:11 PM)

Even in fallout, they never carpet bombed with nukes.

@  Maximus Ambus : (12 January 2020 - 12:43 PM)

I hope the stockpiled nuclear weapons of the US and Russia are accounted for then.

@  Nevermore : (12 January 2020 - 12:22 PM)

Geez. 1760 (!) bombs from World War II that had not detonated and were still armed have been found. That's only the numbers for the federal state of Germany I live in, and only for the first three quarters of 2019. For all of 2018, the total number was 2811 (!!) bombs.

@  CVReynolds : (11 January 2020 - 11:05 PM)

I've been wanting a Tarantulas that turns into a more realistic tarantula for a long time. Maybe Takara will someday do a Masterpiece, which would be neat. But I really want to see a modernized look like in the IDW comics.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (11 January 2020 - 09:43 PM)

We need more Waspinators.. and rattraps.

@  Ashley : (11 January 2020 - 07:09 PM)

I'm on board with that

@  Dekafox : (11 January 2020 - 06:17 PM)

What I'm hearing is we need Cyberverse Waspinator

@  NotVeryKnightly : (10 January 2020 - 01:27 AM)

He's appeared across more branding changes than Waspinator, so maybe it's more the other way around.

@  Ashley : (10 January 2020 - 12:01 AM)

is C3PO the Waspinator of Star Wars? he'll live forever, because it's funny for him to suffer

@  Sabrblade : (09 January 2020 - 11:52 PM)

He's still waiting for them to be funny.

@  ▲ndrusi : (09 January 2020 - 10:35 PM)

Why?

@  Maximus Ambus : (09 January 2020 - 04:02 PM)

I've been watching South Park, Family Guy and The Simpsons with a straight face for a decade now.

@  wonko the sane? : (09 January 2020 - 03:18 PM)

If that's what it takes to get you to take the medication, sure.

@  Bass X0 : (09 January 2020 - 01:52 PM)

If I go crazy, will you still call me Superman?

@  fourteenwings : (09 January 2020 - 11:37 AM)

I mean, it is easier to protect HDDs, and you can retransfer the data over and over forever?

@  NotVeryKnightly : (09 January 2020 - 10:45 AM)

Not in this comparison. He's making his own files, so they're (presumably) not restricted by DRM, so he can copy them as many times as he wants. It's potentially more reliable in the long term than hoping the specific copies you originally bought never accrue any damage for the rest of your life.

@  Echowarrior : (09 January 2020 - 10:44 AM)

I prefer physical copies too. Easier to protect something physical and tangible.

@  Maximus Ambus : (09 January 2020 - 09:55 AM)

I prefer having physical copies.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (09 January 2020 - 08:56 AM)

I have plenty of physical media I turn into digital media for my plex server. Just finished ripping Ultra Seven

@  fourteenwings : (09 January 2020 - 08:50 AM)

Isn't the general consensus that we're supposed to be over physical media anyways?

@  Paladin : (09 January 2020 - 08:17 AM)

i still don't own a Blu-Ray player.

@  TheMightyMol... : (09 January 2020 - 07:35 AM)

My current TV works just fine. I don't see a need to upgrade. And by the time I do, the Next Big Thing will probably be out anyway.

@  Benbot : (09 January 2020 - 03:58 AM)

Me neither. I'm no rebel, though. I'm just poor.

@  Maximus Ambus : (09 January 2020 - 03:38 AM)

I haven't gone 4K yet, I'm a rebel.

@  Ashley : (07 January 2020 - 11:50 PM)

the comic theme is amazing

@  Bass X0 : (07 January 2020 - 03:18 PM)

Sounds like Victor Caroli but I’m not sure.

@  Bass X0 : (07 January 2020 - 02:35 PM)

Should I recognise the narrator of the Mutant Hunt trailer?

@  Maximus Ambus : (07 January 2020 - 04:30 AM)

I got me Titans Return Blaster, now watch them unveil Earthrise Blaster and Generations Perceptor, a retool of Titans Blaster.

@  ThunderWear : (06 January 2020 - 10:22 PM)

I recently switched to to the comic theme here at the Allspark and I'm so happy I just want to look at it.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (06 January 2020 - 08:12 AM)

Can you not take so many lines to say anything?

@  fourteenwings : (06 January 2020 - 07:47 AM)

Iunno, maybe people having unique pronunciations of things re:how they understand language makes the world a more colourful place, rather than one where we correct every seemingly grievous error?

@  Nevermore : (06 January 2020 - 06:12 AM)

Others insist on "Michael Yackson".

@  Nevermore : (06 January 2020 - 06:01 AM)

Because the very combination of those sounds is unknown to them, and thus they avoid it as if it were contagious.

@  Nevermore : (06 January 2020 - 06:00 AM)

For example, the English "J" sound consists of sounds that exist in German: Basically, it's just a "d" sound followed by a very soft "sh". Yet there are many Germans who insist on calling the late King of Pop "Michael Checkson".

@  Nevermore : (06 January 2020 - 05:58 AM)

I'm talking about names that should pe easily pronouncable if you just bothered to pay attention to how it's done correctly instead of insisting on "I speak X language and this is how I prounounce it!"

@  Nevermore : (06 January 2020 - 05:57 AM)

I'm not even talking about foreign names that have sounds that don't exist in the speaker's language.

@  Nevermore : (06 January 2020 - 05:56 AM)

Something that really irks me is when people are persistently ignorant about the correct pronunciation of foreign names, especially when it's people they either admire or frequently interact with on a daily basis.

@  Agamus : (05 January 2020 - 09:22 PM)

i didnt really do all that much, at least compared to whats available. never made it to pearl harbor :( the arizona had just re-opened a couple days before i got there too. dont really have a good excuse for not going...

lets start with my flights. turns out, im not a flier. i dont like the take offs. dont like the turbulence. and not fond of the landings. other than that, they were ok. the flights home were a bit better. guess i was getting used to it. still couldnt get to sleep though. id wake up with every bump. the flight from denver to indy was quick. that plane was like a sports car and it felt like it was really hauling ass. i actually arrived at indy early, despite my flight from honolulu leaving an hour late. i dont know how people fly so much. to make matters worse, on the day i left i was watching tv and looking at what shows were coming on. found one called "why planes crash"! thanks a lot weather channel. im already nervous about flying (especially over all that water...). that really helps me!

it was very windy there. i was expecting it to be, but it was constant. i dont think there was a day where the wind was under 15mph. i dont know how they played golf at the course across from my hotel

the birds there are very relaxed. aside from them shopping in the international market place (which is VERY expensive. its like an upper class mall), you can practically walk up right next to them and they wont even flutter. im used to them taking off if you even glance at them. on the way to diamond head, i saw a man feeding them and they were sitting on his arms and flying all around him like he was their king

everything is either open-air, or at the least they (mostly) leave their doors open. the international market place doesnt have a proper ceiling as far as i could tell. any ceiling is just the floor above. even my hotel was lacking in walls in certain places. accordingly, a lot of restaurants had seating outside. thats nothing new, but id never seen such a large number of those before

the clouds were always big and fluffy. i didnt really notice til the drive home. i was looking outside my brothers truck window and noticed they were all flat.

as i mentioned before, it "rained" a few times i was there. it wasnt anything more than a short sprinkle or shower, just enough to know it was doing something. but my last day, i got caught in a proper rain. it still didnt last long, but this time it got the pavement wet

of no importance to anyone except me, but i found a place that sells coke icees. yeah i know theyre not that exciting. but when i took my first plane ride to san antonio when i was little (like 5 or so), my brother and i used to walk to a store everyday and get one. so that was a nice memory to kinda relive. of course i had to text my brother and tell him about it lol

i went to the beach twice. the first time, at a section pretty close to my hotel, i got knocked on my ass by the waves. they were so strong that i decided to just sit down instead of trying to fight them. came home all covered in sand because i didnt see a rinsing off shower. second time, i went to the waikiki wall. i found it on my way to the aquarium. its basically a walled off section of the beach so the waves arent as strong there. i was able to swim and walk around there. also found a rinsing shower so i didnt take a small beach home with me. still brought some back with me. anakin was right. it gets everywhere. and salt water tastes like shit

saw some insanely hot bodies there though ;)

i learned that all my so-called waterproof equipment was indeed waterproof. my little fanny pack type thing and camera worked perfectly underwater

as i said, i went to the aquarium. it was a bit of a let down. i guess i was expecting it to be bigger, but it was still nice

i rented a bike a couple days i was there. had to get some provisions so i biked to walmart. had a hard time finding it cause it was hidden next to a parking garage. met a nice guy called bob (i think that was his name...) from guam while i was locking up my bike and we chatted for a few minutes til i went inside. they had a locker area to put backpacks cause they dont allow them in there. i think that was the only place i went to where they werent allowed.

i also went to a target near me. it was 3 levels. the first was the entrance and escalators, and the other 2 were the shopping floors. ive never seen a 3 level target before

they have dedicated bike lanes there. that was a nice surprise.

already said i went to diamond head and how draining it was. i shouldve prepared better before i left. i thought itd just be a nice jaunt but nooooooooo. thatll learn me. did meet a guy on the road leading into the park that had finished the hike. didnt get his name but we talked about how the view was from up there and that it would be worth killing myself to get to. for the record, im 44, a bit fat and out of shape, but he was right. couple that with an uphill bike ride and upward climb.  it even rained a very little bit at the top

also met people from italy and germany. heard a british accent from someone in the hotel lobby, but i didnt meet them. there were also a LOT of (im assuming) japanese people there. ive read a lot of them go there and all the signs had what looked like japanese writing. didnt meet any of them though

other than that, i just walked around the few blocks near my hotel and shopped. oh yeah. ive never been much of a foodie, so i didnt try any of the food. plus it was expensive. couldnt see paying all that only to not like it

first night i was there, i got to see the local fire department in action. someone got stuck in the hotel elevator and they had to be called in. there were also some fireworks friday night nearby. i got a tan, but i took heed of warnings and sunblocked myself up before i went out everyday. made it out burn free! found a place that had the magnum p.i. shirt for sale (the ORIGINAL 80s magnum that is). but it was almost a hundred dollars. they did get me for 2 100% made in hawaii flower shirts though. theres a store called abcstores. those things are EVERYWHERE! seriously, google "abc stores waikiki" and just look at all that red. id pass one, and a block later id pass another one. dont try to use those for landmarks!

i think thats it. i know it doesnt sound like a lot, but i managed to fill my four days up somehow. if i think of anything else ill add it, and ill have pics up somewhere :)

I've flown a loooot growing up and I grew to hate it. Completely understandable that you didn't get to do everything, nothing wrong with taking a break on a vacation. Sounds like a good time! Looking forward to seeing more pics. :)

Links aren't working. Looks like you have them on your Google drive, you might need to set the permission so that anyone can look (but be careful if there's anything sensitive on it). Unsure if Tumblr lets you mass dump pics/link to albums.

The Facebook links worked, except for the last one, without having to log in. Tumblr did not. I think I had a Tumblr account once, if I can remember the login. Very nice beach, though.

here it is. im sparing you all having to look at me again :p

0916191749.jpg

the gatekeeper* at the denver airport said she liked my shirt :) she was cute too

side note: everything i bought for the trip ended up getting used in one way or another (even if only briefly)

STILL cant find the name of the store i bought my shirts at, and its driving me crazy. i used cash so i cant check my statements. surprisingly though, its pretty damn close to marukami udon that was mentioned earlier. so if you go there, then just look around for the shop. its nearly on a corner and down a bit from surf and turf tacos and 88 tees (i think thats what its called). this was the area i became most familiar with as its the neighborhood where my hotel was

i DID take more pics. i just posted a small sample so as not to pack the posts full

*i have no idea what theyre called. it was the lady at the podium that helped with boarding passes and stuff

Nice. Wise to choose more subtle designs. I probably would've went with the loudest, tackiest design I could find (I already own some very loud Hawaiian shirts). So do you think you might want to go to Hawaii again sometime, or try other places?

id love to go back. maybe do a different island. and ive always wanted to go to st thomas. i first saw it in weekend at bernies 2 and thought it looked so beautiful. but i dont know. me not liking flying may put the kibosh on that. i think im lucky i was able to make it to hawaii. i might get there though one day

i actually did look at going to st thomas first, but it was more expensive than hawaii! granted, i didnt do much shopping around for hotels there
