Hasbro sure is great at timing the release of their non-kiddie shows with the release of the toyline! Great marketing skills.
TBF while I think only starting this series when the toyline was done is nuts, they would have actually been about right for the rerelease line if it wasn't for Covid - the Netflix show was supposed to be released in May, and it was delayed due to the international dubbing falling behind due the virus.
And they were going to try to evolve into a media company...that's cute.
I mean, they did. They're actually quite a large media company now, just by virtue of buying Entertainment One, who are definitely non-trivial in size. Granted, their attempts to have execs who knew nothing about film and TV do film and TV before that were unsurprisingly failures.
I would expect any future TF projects once this series and any immediate trilogy followups are done to be made by EOne and not Rooster Teeth. The animation might still be farmed out but they have actual in house capacity that run very successful animated series.
