The thing I find most interesting there is that Hasbro apparently had plans for an Air Raiders cartoon that never came to be.
I wonder if the same Asian economic factors that contributed to Inhumanoids and Visionaries ending helped nip that one in the bud.
-ZacWilliam, having a cartoon could only have helped Air Raiders which were on huge clearance at our Sears Surpus store forever, but it probably wouldn't have helped enough.
Air Raiders was all set to be the next Marvel/Sunbow co-production. Ron Friedman and Doug Booth had been working on it since at least the summer of '86. All the material got sold off in the Friedman auctions of 2010.
Hasbro briefing book:
Product Information folder
Bible and story summary:
Script for 3-part pilot (last revision 27/01/87)
Summaries, notes and a second attempt at a pilot script from March 87
The timing of this leads me to a theory. Relations between Marvel and Sunbow were already strained by the end of 86 (Watch Bryce Malek's youtube video of the 1986 Marvel Christmas party and read between the lines of Margaret Loesch's speech). What if Visionaries - a Sunbow/TMS co-production - getting the green light over Air Raiders (or at least perceived to be) was the final straw that led Marvel to say they would do no more Hasbro shows once the existing contracts were up.
Sometimes the internet makes me soooo sad. I just can't imagine getting a hold of documents like those and not IMMEDIATELY chronicaling and sharing every single bit of information within. As far as I'm concerned the only reason to buy them would be to share it all with everybody who was interested (and possibly some people who weren't as well.
-ZacWilliam, knowing stuff like that is out there and there's a good chance we'll never get to read and look at it is just ugh.
