"Oh, Timber and Swift! Been a while since we were last in town. Well, it sounds like one light spell coming u...OW!" There was a brief flash, then he winced and his knees buckled. Holding his horn, he said, "*sigh* I guess that spill took more out of me than I realized. When we were topside, I tried to make a big light show on ol' Venin Tree for the missus but it had unpredictable results. Light beams bouncing all through the apples til one hit the ground and we fell in. Guess I should leave fireworks to the professionals. Couldn't climb up but since we felt a small wind down here, figured there was another way out. Used an apple as a lantern but I guess we didn't get too far if you're rescuing us.

Since it's been a while, where are my manners? I'm Rustle Oak and this is my wife Glitter Fields." Glitter Fields waved, then her stomach growled loudly. "Sorry, skipped breakfast since we planned to eat a big lunch with our daughter. Didn't plan for this to happen."

Ember looks down at her buried hooves. She struggles to free herself for a few moments, to no avail. "Oh dear. I was all ready to get my hooves dirty today, but not like this." She giggles a little bit at her own joke.
 
"Wait... this really isn't that funny. HELP! SOMEPONY, PLEASE HELP!"

She attempts to send some flares up into the air. Though the rain would likely extinguish them within seconds, a keen eye, possibly a member of the weather team, might spot the flash of light and come to investigate.

"Well, maybe we should rest up a bit then either wait for help or find a way out. You two stay put, I'll see if I can find something to eat. Oh, but whatever you do, don't eat those apples." Timber walked around the cave, squinting and trying to find something to eat in the dim light.

Basic Foraging (1) – 3/Extended Rest

Time: 15 Minutes

While in natural environments (anything from jungles to deserts, but not artificially developed environments like cities), you can easily find enough safely edible food to make a decent meal for up to 10 medium-sized creatures.

"Gracious no, we'd never eat the apples. Certainly learned that the hard way decades ago," Glitter Fields said. Timber Glee struggled a bit in the low lighting but she found some roots that were from a similar family as carrots. If she could get them properly cleaned up, she could make something simple with them. Meanwhile, Glitter Fields said, "Swift? I heard from Ivy you do a bit of magazine collection. I had something I wanted to donate to the town library but I don't know if you wanted to look it over first. Granted, there's not much light but it's back in the cart."

 
Ember Burst's display caught the attention of Light Heart who punched a hole in the clouds. With rain falling around but not on Ember, Light landed and tilted her head in curiosity. "I've heard of getting your hooves dirty but this is a little ridiculous. Say Em, you seen Swift anywhere? He didn't show up for the scheduled rain and that's not like him."

"The cart?"

 

Swift Letter glances back the way the came. How should he break it to them that the entrance has already collapsed?

 

"I'll have to take a look later. I don't think we should wander very far. Ember should be back any minute."

[Patch]

"I've heard of getting your hooves dirty but this is a little ridiculous."

"Well, you know me, always getting buried in my work."

 

"Say Em, you seen Swift anywhere? He didn't show up for the scheduled rain and that's not like him."

"...Yeah, about that, um... that's why I was trying to get your attention. Swift Letter, along with Timber Glee and myself, were looking for Lustrous Ivy's parents. To make a long story short, we found them... below a sinkhole... that collapsed after the rain started." Ember sighs. "I tried to teleport out so I could go get help, but you see how well that worked out."

"Right, sorry." Timber scratched an ankle with the edge of her hoof awkwardly. Once she found the roots, she dusted them off as best as she could but they were still filthy.
"Swift, you mind checking if there's some water and a container in that cart? It'd be s bad idea to start a fire without much ventilation, but if I can at least wash and cut these roots up..." She also had her famous spice mix on her.
.....unless it fell out during the fall.
Timber frantically felt at her shirt pockets until she felt the small container. Whew.

[Zamuel]

Light Heart dashed off, "Time to get hellp!" She then stopped and flew back. "Ha ha, you probably want out of this." She started digging Ember Burst out. "So who do you think will be best for this? Seen Clove anywhere?"

It's not like Swift to ignore the advice of his adventurer survival guides on the big day that he finally gets to try it out, but he's never shirked from a delivery and he's not going to start now.

 

Besides, if anything goes wrong, Post will know what to do.

 

He goes to check out that cart and see what he can find.

For as much as it was hard to see, from his time sorting packages Swift Letter could feel when something was different. Feeling his way through the cart, he quickly found the magazine. He also found two tealight candles, a jar with some sort of liquid in it, a few sticks, a large bowl, and a cast iron skillet. About everything else seemed to still be in suitcases.

It seems like a lot to carry but Swift Letter has his mailbag, freshly empty after a full day of work.

 

He selects the magazine, the candles, the jar, the sticks, the bowl, and the skillet.

 

Now he makes his way back to the others.

"Ah, we saw him just a little while ago at Ivy's place."

[MEDdMI]

"Thanks, Swift." She started with the jar of liquid, opened it then took a whiff to see what it was.

Timber Glee found that the liquid was mildly fragrant. Flowery. She then realized that it must be rose petal water used in some dishes. A few rose petals could be faintly seen in the darkness floating on top.

 
After digging Ember Burst out, Light Heart listened to her heartbeat and gave her a quick look over. Then said, "Alright, no serious injuries. Sounds like I need to head north to try to catch Clove before he leaves."

"Thanks for digging me out. Should I be doing anything in the meantime?"

Swift's realizing this would be quite fun in other circumstances. Not stuck underground. In the dark. The whole sky blocked off. Indoors can make the world feel small enough. But this...

Meanwhile, Post's just calmly beginning to doze off. It's dark, so it must be naptime.

"Allright, give me a few minutes to see what I can do with these." There really weren't many options without any significant fire. She placed the roots in the bowl on top of a rock and used as little of the rose water as she could to clean off the remaining dirt, then picked up the roots with one hoof, then placed them in the skillet. She took out her small collapsible axe and chopped up the roots into medium size pieces inside the skillet and sprinkled them with some of her spice mix. Hopefully the rose water would help add a little extra flavor. 

 

After cleaning out the bowl, she divided the roots roughly in half, bringing out the skillet to Ivy's parents, then the bowl to Swift.

"Save me a few." Next she brought over the remainder of the rose water.

"I'm afraid we'll have to share this for a drink." She sat down on the ground and crossed her hooves in front of her, staring with a flat expression, waiting for reactions.

"Thank you," Rustle Oak said. "It smells wonderful, I just wish I was in better shape to provide some light."

"Okay! Just... don't run too fast..." Ember tries her best to keep up, leaving a trail of muddy hoofprints behind her.
