@  wonko the sane? : (10 August 2020 - 02:03 PM)

Then there are people who outright manufacture memories for whatever reason.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (10 August 2020 - 01:13 PM)

The human brain is so flaky that it is extremely unlikely that a given person does NOT have any false memories.

@  OverDrive73 : (10 August 2020 - 01:05 PM)

Perhaps it's simple word association the movie Sinbad and then our minds apply the same memories to a man named Sinbad.

@  OverDrive73 : (10 August 2020 - 01:04 PM)

The Mandela Effect is the same as people remembering Sinbad in a movie where he played a genie... Of which he never did.

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 09:36 AM)

People that believe Mandela Effect things would rather come up with any number of reasons as to why their version doesn't have any actual evidence(like alternate timelines collapsing into our own) than just admit they remembered something wrong

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 09:35 AM)

Sort of. It's more that when presented with a verifiable fact, they double down because it's what they believe instead of changing their minds

@  ▲ndrusi : (10 August 2020 - 09:25 AM)

"I could have sworn that ______."

@  ▲ndrusi : (10 August 2020 - 09:25 AM)

I'm not arguing with either of those two statements, but they're not really connected. Mandela Effect is, to oversimplify, people being widely mistaken about what they think *is* a verifiable fact. Nothing to do with opinions.

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 08:52 AM)

Pretty sure the Mandela Effect in general is an American thing. Opinion > Verifiable Facts is sadly a pretty American thing

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:27 AM)

Ask these people how Apartheid ended according to their recollection, and I'm sure they'll draw a blank.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:25 AM)

You got two black anti-Apartheid activists who were imprisoned by the oppressive regime. One died, the other was Nelson Mandela. It's not a far stretch that Americans who don't know many details about the history of other countries would mix up the two.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:24 AM)

My own theory is that these people are simply mixing up Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko, another South African anti-Apartheid activist, who did indeed die in police custody in 1977. There was an Oscar-nominated movie about his life starring Denzel Washington that came out in 1987, the same time frame these people claim remembering Mandela dying.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:17 AM)

I met a few people from South Africa, and they either never heard of the phenomenon at all, or only know of it from the internet. Apparently, it's completely unknown in South Africa, and it might even be entirely limited to the United States.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:16 AM)

So does anyone remember the "Mandela Effect"? I'm talking specifically about the original case where many people vividly remember Nelson Mandela dying in prison in the 1980s.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (10 August 2020 - 03:16 AM)

Crisis of Corona.

@  TheMightyMol... : (09 August 2020 - 06:16 PM)

Which crisis crossover are we on now? I lost track.

@  Rycochet : (09 August 2020 - 05:18 PM)

Much of the past decade has been the part of the comic series where less than stellar authors have driven the series into the ground and the editors are getting ready to either do a big multi issue crossover, leading to a reboot.

@  Bass X0 : (09 August 2020 - 02:28 PM)

At this point I've just decided to consider 2020 "not canon."

@  TheMightyMol... : (09 August 2020 - 02:18 PM)

@  Maximus Ambus : (09 August 2020 - 02:10 PM)

Before the 'member berries there was Pepperidge farm. Pepperidge farm remembers.

@  Trpodeca : (08 August 2020 - 06:24 AM)

Oh dear God no. Twitter has changed it's default layout to the terrible new one. Why waste so much space on the left?

@  Steevy Maximus : (07 August 2020 - 08:28 PM)

@Bass X0, yeah, the Joe comic got REALLY solid in the upper 20s to the Cobra Civil War. It's interesting to see how well the Joe comic has aged relative to the cartoon. Where as I feel the opposite is true of Transformers

@  -LittleAutob... : (07 August 2020 - 03:58 PM)

Its so fun watching past TF Conventions.

@  Bass X0 : (07 August 2020 - 02:20 PM)

I've been reading classic 80s G.I. Joe lately. Its still decent even though I don't have any nostalgia towards it.

@  Sabrblade : (07 August 2020 - 08:50 AM)

Think of it as Adam West Batman instead. ;)

@  wonko the sane? : (07 August 2020 - 07:49 AM)

That sounds more like the flash, or maybe booster gold than batman.

@  Sabrblade : (07 August 2020 - 12:27 AM)

They would get bored fighting each other and instead decide to take an epic cross-country road trip together.

@  RichardT1977 : (06 August 2020 - 08:57 PM)

What would happen if Batman were to fight Squirrel Girl?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (04 August 2020 - 09:03 PM)

Unless you count the Mask vs Lobo special, but that's less a duel and more a duet.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (04 August 2020 - 08:52 PM)

My favorite crossover fight was Thor vs Shazam/Captain Marvel. Early in the fight, Thor discovers that Billy Batson needs lightning to transform, and being a god of lightning he simply denies him that.

@  Sabrblade : (04 August 2020 - 08:46 PM)

Let's see a fight between Death Battle and Super Power Beat Down

@  TheMightyMol... : (04 August 2020 - 06:15 PM)

Which Lobo later claimed was because he was paid to take a dive. Yes, really.

@  TheMightyMol... : (04 August 2020 - 06:15 PM)

And then there's the times it's been decided by a fan vote, which is how we get things like Lobo (who can go toe-to-toe with Superman at full strength) losing to Wolverine.

@  Nevermore : (04 August 2020 - 05:49 PM)

And then there are the "but my favorite characater will totes win because I say so" people.

@  Nevermore : (04 August 2020 - 05:49 PM)

I mean, there are some people who really approach this from a somewhat reasonable standpoint, coming up with a plausible scenario and a setting that creates a fair environment that doesn't favor one character.

@  Nevermore : (04 August 2020 - 05:46 PM)

My favorite stupid "why would they even fight each other" question recently was about three versions of Optimus Prime (G1, Bayverse and Aligned).

@  Nevermore : (04 August 2020 - 05:45 PM)

Batman obviously can beat everyone. Even Galactus. He's Batman. He's so smart, he'll just throw a Batarang and hit the weak spot at Galactus's forehead, knocking him out instantaneously.

@  wonko the sane? : (04 August 2020 - 11:37 AM)

It's almost like all drama is just manufactured pissing contests to keep us all entertained and distracted. :p

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (04 August 2020 - 10:16 AM)

Or they could go White Ranger vs Scorpion route and have both win. ;P

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:35 AM)

Besides, we all know the answer is nearly always "they fight to a standstill and then team up against a common enemy."

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:29 AM)

The best way to prove this is to give an example where the match is really lopsided in favor of one character but in popularity they're either evenly matched or the weaker one is more popular.

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:27 AM)

The "who would win in a fight" discussions are really just people trying to make "which one's better" into something you can theoretically measure objectively, usually in a very specific way they think they've predetermined their favorite will win.

@  Otaku : (04 August 2020 - 02:01 AM)

@Nevermore So... you're saying you didn't like DC Versus Marvel/Marvel Versus DC?

@  Steevy Maximus : (03 August 2020 - 06:59 PM)

So, what happened to Hasbro's Zoids relaunch? An English dub, some stuff in southeast Asia, and now a game coming in October? That it?

@  wonko the sane? : (03 August 2020 - 10:46 AM)

Tidal wave, cause shooting water gets you nowhere.

@  Darth Gonzo : (03 August 2020 - 09:57 AM)

Who would win Tidal Wave or Broadside?

@  -LittleAutob... : (03 August 2020 - 08:17 AM)

Btw Happy birthday to those people in the box to the right \o/

Another day in Friendship Gardens was in full swing. The usual hustle and bustle of the town set about under a partially cloud day as a light rain was scheduled for early afternoon and everything was in place. It was the lunch break for Swift Letter and with it being a particularly light mail day, he found himself at Sweet Berry's shop with only the few homes farther north needing letters delivered. Sweet Berry herself was behind the counter. The friendly light purple earth pony greeted him with a big smile but not her usual greeting as she had several letters in her mouth. She also had one tucked behind her ear, partially balanced by the multitude of pink braids in her mane or perhaps the two small green hairbows that matched her eyes.

Meanwhile, Ember Burst also found herself entering Sweet Berry's shop. She was right on schedule for her fairly productive day, and what better way to continue that than to have a meeting and lunch at the same time? While she couldn't tell just what was off about the store, she could smell the delicious scents that were presumably the muffins for tomorrow's big race at the farm's racing field. A quick status report while eating would allow Ember a possible chance to finish work early, pending on how the next stop went.

What a slow day. Hardly any mail. Nopony got any interesting magazines. It's lunchtime and he's almost done with his route already. Oh well. This just means he'll have a long afternoon to work on his projects.

As he enters the bakery he gives his standard greeting: "Howdy." He then looks at Sweet Berry very intently, as if deeply contemplating something. Pondering. Trying to figure something out. On the edge of something but not quite able to put a hoof on it. But then he has it.

"You have something in your teeth."

Ember Burst enters the shop, humming a tune quietly to herself while jotting notes with the quill and paper she carried with her magic. Her brisk scribbling slowed considerably as the scent of delicious muffins began to impair her ability to focus.

"Oh dear, those muffins smell so wonderful that I think my productivity levels just dropped!" She giggles as if she's just told a hilarious joke.

She looks up from the paper to see Swift Letter and Sweet Berry with the letters in her mouth. Her eyes suddenly go wide. "Oopsie! I didn't mean to interrupt."

Sweet Berry started laughing at Swift Letter's joke. Or she would have if it weren't for the letters in her mouth. Realizing this, she set the stack of letters and said "Good one! You're right on time too. Got a whole stack to send out...as you obviously already saw." Turning to Ember Burst, she said, "You're not interrupting at all. The envelope behind my ear is for you. Didn't know if it was best to mail it or just walk it over but showing up solves that. It's the itener...iten...that list of how well production has been going for the bakery that you asked for. Hope it's what you needed!"

"Oh, good! Let me just take that off your hooves... or rather, your ear, hahaha." Ember Burst gently floats the letter over and opens the envelope, giving the list a quick look-over. "Yes, yes, this is just what I was looking for! Thank you so much!"

"No, thank you. You've been a big help in keeping thing organized." Just then, Timber Glee also entered Sweet Berry's shop. It had been a hard day's work chopping wood and making sure fresh saplings were planted where the old trees were but now it was time for a well earned mid day meal to rest and recharge. Sweet Berry happily waved when Timber entered. "Hey, just who I wanted to see! I uh, need your help with something if you're not too busy."

"Good afternoon!" Timber's large hooves loudly announced her presence, not that she was easy to miss. She walked a few steps before realizing she was tracking mud inside. She sheepishly stepped backwards to wipe the mud off her hooves on the doormat outside, then walked back inside to the counter. She waved at everyone there.

"Sure, just as soon as you lend me a mop so I can clean the mess I made, and as long as I get home by dinner to spend time with my lill' sis."

"Oh, I'll handle mopping...and I probably should've asked everypony if they have an order since they're here. But I was wondering what I should do aboooout...that." Sweet Berry pointed at the corner to a table sitting by its lonesome. It was slightly crooked but not for trying as it had perhaps a hundred nails and what looked like a railroad spike driven into it. As she started looking for the mop she said, "The table broke and I didn't want to bug others about fixing it so I took matters into my own hooves.

Or at least, I tried to.

Here lies something that was once a table.

"Do you need help? I have tools. I could come by again when I'm done with my route."

"....oh dear. You poor table." Timber edged closer to inspect it, lunch forgotten for the time being."I don't know, Swift-" here she paused to make sure Sweet Berry wasn't listening- "it might not be salveageable this time." She whispered through her teeth, as if announcing a serious illness.

"I should have some tools available somewhere. Other than a hammer, I mean." Sweet Berry said as she pulled out a mop. However, she dropped it an looked forlorn upon hearing Timber Glee's not completely silent comment. "Oh no. I'll need another table by tomorrow when visitors start arriving. What am I going to..." She then lightly facehoofed herself. "I just realized I have a spare easy build table kit. You want to help me with it real quick...or should I work on it?"

Swift Letter ponders the situation, for real this time.

"I think the rest of my route can wait. I don't have much left anyway. We have a table to build."

"Be right back!" Sweet Berry said as she rushed into the back. She then walked out carrying a box on her back. It had a photo of happy ponies having a good time playing a board game that was just fuzzy enough in the picture that the exact game couldn't be discerned. In bold, bright letters it called out 'Simple Steps! Instructions included!' on the front and sides. After the box was opened, Sweet Berry separated out the wood, some sort of latches, and instructions.

"I'd appreciate the help, Swift. Ember, think you could spare a hoof?" When Sweet Berry set the box down, Timber laughed. "Oh, this'll be a piece of cake! I've made things way more complicated than this for my Cuddle Button-" Timber got a far off look in her eyes as she grinned, a look her friends knew all too well. She was going to start rambling about her little sister again.

Timber Glee easily set the pieces in place as each leg had pegs for a dedicated spot instead of being modular. The hinges would allow the table legs to fold in for easy storage. Steady hooves or perhaps some magic would get this done in no time.

A fairly unpleasant snap was heard as Ember Burst attempted to insert the leg with her magic. The angle was off and the attachment broke. It might be salvageable but would take more traditional carpentry skills.

Just then, two ponies walked in the door. Well, the first wasn't actually a pony but was Post, Swift Letter's helpful carrier pigeon. Post landed on Swift's shoulder and looked at the table Sweet Berry tried to fix with worry and confusion. The second was the head of the weather team, Light Heart. The white pegasus mare had fluffy hair of yellow-orange and magenta and a big purple bow that could potentially remind one of a sunrise. As she calmly trotted in, she nonchalantly said, "Oh hey. You might want to finish that before the lunch crowd shows up. Got a crowd coming this way. But don't mind me, I'll get that mud mopped up for you."

While the instruction booklet wasn't very thick, it did have a troubleshooting section. It noted that in the event that a peg broke, there were ways the peg could be removed and the leg nailed in. The table would lose collapsability but would still be stable. Sadly, the book lacked pictures for the troubleshooting and the box didn't provide spare parts.

Sweet Berry jumped a little upon hearing the peg snap and looked about as downtrodden as Ember seemed to feel. Then both found that they had been pulled into a big hug by Light Heart. Not just with her forelegs but also with her wings, for as she often said 'wing hugs are twice the hug'. "Don't sweat it you two, we got this. In fact, Sweets, you take care of lunch for the four of us. Whatever the house special is, I'm buying. I'm sure Glee and the rest of us will have this table fixed."
