It is a little complicated. I think the visual of him without a shirt was intending to get laugh and I totally get it if that makes people feel uncomfortable. It isn't a perfect world where bellies are played for laughs.
But while Thor was at an unhealthy weight, certainly, he was nothing that would be called morbidly obese. I have a belly similar to his. No one calls me fat. To the majority extent it was not that he had a belly that was funny, but just that he didn't look like you'd expect without a shirt.
The majority of it is as HellCat said. I don't remember what Rocket said, but I do remember what Rhody said and the look on his face, and I don't think Rhody was motivated by distaste for overweight people. Rhody is a disciplined military guy who has always valued staying fit, a disabled guy who fought his way back to the top, and a post-snap guy who has continued to stay active and make the best of the situation. He's needed Thor's help for 5 years and hasn't had it and didn't have a visual on what that meant. Now Thor is in front of him again and he is this guy that has let himself go in every way. Rhody has been busy trying to hold the world together for 5 years and could really have used Thor's help. Thor probably told them he couldn't help with that because his people needed him, but it turns out he hasn't been helping his people either. He has been sitting in a shack drinking. Being overweight is one symptom of the problem that makes Rhody disgusted with him. It was the thought of something coursing in Thor's veins that made him speak up, but the look on his face is because Thor just isn't the man that he thought he was.
