Turning, Omega spun his blade and came to stand next to the Princess. Noting Howard hanging high above, he grinned at the crazy mans abilities. Eyeing the pirate, he said.

"I am Omega, Knight of Shadows and we are here to ensure your ascension never comes to pass. The only sacrifice tonight will be your ill-fated ambition. Not an innocent taken to 'fuel your asc4nsion'."

The man leaped right in front of Kage and Dee and smiled. "You celebrate a holiday of thanks. Why not welcome the chance to just take whatever you want, whenever you want? I could provide that." Suddenly, each of their swords were in his hands! "Though I must say, such fine weaponry you have. Don't think you'd want to part with them on a permanent basis. I'm not unable to reason, so let's talk..." He calmly tossed Dee's sword to Kage in an easily catchable motion.

Beathra had been standing back, watching the demigod perform, after the three were unarmed, he made his way over the bridge now to stand beside his allies a bemused smile upon his face.

 

"Yes, talk..." he said, "I do wonder if you even fully realize what it is you are setting yourself up for.  Godhood isn't what most mortals expect.  Limitless raw power, oh yes, but then you can't do anything with it!  You're just stuck poking at mortals to make them do your bidding and then they never listen, or just misunderstand what you were wanting and then they get angry at each other over their own ideas of what you meant! Take it from one who knows, yes?"

 

Here Beathra gave a chuckle and shook his head,

 

"But then, I was never really a god.  And neither will you be, though I am morbidly curious to know what you think might change our minds. You either have a bargain or a deception and I'm honestly leaning toward deception, all things considered."

Though unfazed by the mans sudden leap to stand right before them, Omega felt his jaw clench as the man spoke. His words and attitude were the antithesis of everything Kage was. Everything the Knight stood for.

Then he took their blades with spouting further nonsense!

Omegas hand reflexively snapped up to catch the sword, before it registered which blade he was catching. Kage was well aware that this particular blade allowed none but the Lady Destron to wield it, while giving a frosty rebuke to all others.

Hoping that perhaps the seperation his gauntlet providedmight allow him to hold the blade long enough to return it to Destron, Kage briefly thought of the Prinvesses goddess protector friend.

Kage Endurance DC 40

Kage felt a crippling pain race through his arm as the frigid sword wasn't too hot to handle but was indeed too cold to hold. And at that instant, their suave adversary took off running, grabbed Marguerite, and leaped over the side of the ship. However, instead of the splash of two people hitting the water, there was the sound of a motor as a speedboat raced off.

"Fools! If you would have just rushed him for the cornucopia instead of worrying about some worthless girl, he wouldn't be getting away right now! Now, how do you expect us to catch him?" Varian Stalebutter said in a way that likely didn't endear him to his allies. However, was Varian right and all was lost or was there actually a way to catch him in time to stop his dark ritual?

"Ow mi suppose to hit dat?! It wud be like smashing fine china." Howard complains, tiptoeing to the edge of the sail to look over the side of the boat.

As the boat sped away, the would-be god heard a voice in his head.

 

"You cannot escape"

 

Beathra then turned to Stalebutter and said with a snort, "I did not see you leaping into action.  Perhaps your title ought to be 'Coward Like no Other'?  Keep your mouth shut unless you are ready to put your funds in the same place."

 

After a moment, he added, "Our only recourse now is to follow him... fortunately he has left us an entire flotilla which which to do that." here he indicated the lashed together vessels on which they all stood, "What is curious to me is that he did not attempt to sacrifice her here and now and claim ascension. That must mean he requires something else to make that happen. Or somewhere."

"So does anyone know how to drive?"

What felt like cold fire shut up his arm and Kage abruptly fell to one knee. Releasing the Viknadian blade almost by reflex, Kage felt weakness threatening to topple him as the cold sank into his bones. Groaning, the Knight looked up at Destron.

"How did you tolerate that?"

Then he registered the quarrys escape, his further theft of Marguerite and Varian callousness.

"As heartless as your Patron sinner i see," he snapped with obvious disgust.

Forcing himself back to his feet, Kage rushed to the side of the ship closest to the departing speedboat. Yanking out his Grapnel launcher, the Knight tried to hold his aim and snare the boat. Pulling the trigger, he mentally crossed his fingers.

Kage managed to grapple onto the fleeing boat cleanly. However, he hadn't thought to tie the grapple line onto something secure. As the line pulled taut, the Omega Knight was yanked off the floating mass of ships and found himself water skiing behind the escaping speedboat!

Meanwhile, Howard found what looked like ropes connecting to a boat on the opposite side of the ship.

Beathra watched the valiant knight disappear suddenly into the distance.

 

For a moment he just stood, frozen where he had been, watching.

 

He then turned to Howard and called up,

 

"Omega has left to pursue our would-be god directly, we... probably should go after him..."

As the sudd4n acceleration shot him forward, Kage just had time to reconsider the sanity of his actions, before the 'Omega' voice (which was for once not laughing at him) snapped out that he should really get his feet under him. Preferably before they hit the water!

With a surprisingly so.id crash, the Omega Knight hit the speeding water and, despite the reverberating impact rattl8ng his bones a bit, managed to stay afloat. Lock8ng his arms in front of him, Omega felt the water rushing beneath him, as twin arcs of spray kicked up around him.

Dee paused, as Kage suddenly left her sight ... the reply to his question would have to wait. picking up her sword she quickly secured it along her back and dove into the water.

While it was difficult to make gains, Dee felt as if the Viknadian ocean itself was propelling her along as she gave chase.

When Howard pointed out the boat on the opposite side ship, Varian Stalebutter rushed over to see what it was. Looking over the edge, he gasped in shock. "It's a Vessel of Valor! When you row it, the speed isn't just from your physical strength but from the strength of your determination. With this we just might have a chance of catching them," he said as he started to climb in. The rowboat had many ornate runes carved into it and was far newer than the ship it was tied to.

Clambering into the boat, Beathra ran his hand along the rune-carved timber, leaned down and murmured as if to the boat itself,

Howard hero point spent.

Propelled forward by their deeds of bravery, the pirate leader looked on in shock as the rowed boat was indeed gaining on him. Marguerite cautiously raised her hand, "Can I maybe change your mind? How is this supposed to work anyway?" "You see...for me to truly reach my heights, I must create a grand theft. Therefore, I shall steal you from death itself!" "Um, what happens if it goes wrong?" "Well...your loss. But no matter. The time has come for H'tooms to shine!" He cut the engine and then from some unseen place he pulled out the cornucopia. And then he reached into the cornucopia, pulled out a can, and tossed it into the water. The ocean began to churn as a magenta mass began to rise out of the water. Varian Stalebutter looked on in horror, "It's a Great Cranberry Jellyfish!"

 
"Wait...what?" Professor Oakley said as she adjusted her glasses and reread the page.

...well, okay.

 
As the beast rose out of the water, just what would the heroes do?!?

Omega hadn't been idle during his impromptu skiing, just frustrated. There was no way to gain any air for a glide attack. Nor had he been able to try reeling himself into the boat. Now though, although he could not hear what was going on in the boat, he knew he had to do something. Then he felt the acceleration from the boat suddenly cut down.

"Damn, he killed the engine. Gotta make this count."

Sharply angling his body, the Omega Knight attempted to use his now fast depleting momentum, to swing himself around and at the speedboat faster enough to grapple on to it before he sank.
