I am the only one rooting for the rock these days?

@  Maximus Ambus : (12 August 2020 - 12:37 AM)

Sour grapes for the next decade until Apophis hits.

@  Hg Dragon : (11 August 2020 - 11:26 PM)

Thank yoo for vatching hydroolic pthress chan-nel.

@  Hg Dragon : (11 August 2020 - 11:19 PM)

Hey, do you have any grapes?

@  Otaku : (11 August 2020 - 05:18 PM)

I dunno... it sounds kind of quackers to me.

@  -LittleAutob... : (11 August 2020 - 05:17 PM)

That would be nice....

@  TheMightyMol... : (11 August 2020 - 04:36 PM)

I wish I could just sit by a pond and watch ducks for a while.

@  Maximus Ambus : (11 August 2020 - 03:52 AM)

Others say Joe sat down at this pond next to these ducks but really there's just no place in this world for an old man and his ducks.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:48 PM)

Even worse when I can produce those verifiable facts at a later point, and then the other person simply claims the argument was the other way round (as in, I was actually arguing their position and vice versa).

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:47 PM)

I can argue with people about my versus their memory of events when verifiable facts are not readily available, though, and I get really annoyed when I'm capable of presenting a precise, step-by-step summary with multiple key points that can be used for future verification, and the other person just goes "nope, wrong" without going into detail.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:45 PM)

I forget things, and I misremember things. But when presented with verifiable facts, my reaction is more like "Huh, could have sworn it was like that", not "this reality is not my own".

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 06:43 PM)

I have an extremely good memory (which I have proven time and again), and even I can be mistaken.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (10 August 2020 - 06:40 PM)

Might be worth pointing out that it only became "Mandela Effect" and not just "I remembered this wrong" when a conspiracy theorist insisted it was proof of alternate timelines.

@  Otaku : (10 August 2020 - 06:29 PM)

Incorrectly remembering Nelson Mandela's fate may be uniquely American... but is it really that strange to get South African political history wrong when you're no where near South Africa?

@  Otaku : (10 August 2020 - 06:29 PM)

I always assumed the Mandela Effect was a "human thing", not an American thing.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 August 2020 - 02:03 PM)

Then there are people who outright manufacture memories for whatever reason.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (10 August 2020 - 01:13 PM)

The human brain is so flaky that it is extremely unlikely that a given person does NOT have any false memories.

@  OverDrive73 : (10 August 2020 - 01:05 PM)

Perhaps it's simple word association the movie Sinbad and then our minds apply the same memories to a man named Sinbad.

@  OverDrive73 : (10 August 2020 - 01:04 PM)

The Mandela Effect is the same as people remembering Sinbad in a movie where he played a genie... Of which he never did.

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 09:36 AM)

People that believe Mandela Effect things would rather come up with any number of reasons as to why their version doesn't have any actual evidence(like alternate timelines collapsing into our own) than just admit they remembered something wrong

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 09:35 AM)

Sort of. It's more that when presented with a verifiable fact, they double down because it's what they believe instead of changing their minds

@  ▲ndrusi : (10 August 2020 - 09:25 AM)

"I could have sworn that ______."

@  ▲ndrusi : (10 August 2020 - 09:25 AM)

I'm not arguing with either of those two statements, but they're not really connected. Mandela Effect is, to oversimplify, people being widely mistaken about what they think *is* a verifiable fact. Nothing to do with opinions.

@  MidnightFox : (10 August 2020 - 08:52 AM)

Pretty sure the Mandela Effect in general is an American thing. Opinion > Verifiable Facts is sadly a pretty American thing

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:27 AM)

Ask these people how Apartheid ended according to their recollection, and I'm sure they'll draw a blank.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:25 AM)

You got two black anti-Apartheid activists who were imprisoned by the oppressive regime. One died, the other was Nelson Mandela. It's not a far stretch that Americans who don't know many details about the history of other countries would mix up the two.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:24 AM)

My own theory is that these people are simply mixing up Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko, another South African anti-Apartheid activist, who did indeed die in police custody in 1977. There was an Oscar-nominated movie about his life starring Denzel Washington that came out in 1987, the same time frame these people claim remembering Mandela dying.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:17 AM)

I met a few people from South Africa, and they either never heard of the phenomenon at all, or only know of it from the internet. Apparently, it's completely unknown in South Africa, and it might even be entirely limited to the United States.

@  Nevermore : (10 August 2020 - 04:16 AM)

So does anyone remember the "Mandela Effect"? I'm talking specifically about the original case where many people vividly remember Nelson Mandela dying in prison in the 1980s.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (10 August 2020 - 03:16 AM)

Crisis of Corona.

@  TheMightyMol... : (09 August 2020 - 06:16 PM)

Which crisis crossover are we on now? I lost track.

@  Rycochet : (09 August 2020 - 05:18 PM)

Much of the past decade has been the part of the comic series where less than stellar authors have driven the series into the ground and the editors are getting ready to either do a big multi issue crossover, leading to a reboot.

@  Bass X0 : (09 August 2020 - 02:28 PM)

At this point I've just decided to consider 2020 "not canon."

@  TheMightyMol... : (09 August 2020 - 02:18 PM)

@  Maximus Ambus : (09 August 2020 - 02:10 PM)

Before the 'member berries there was Pepperidge farm. Pepperidge farm remembers.

@  Trpodeca : (08 August 2020 - 06:24 AM)

Oh dear God no. Twitter has changed it's default layout to the terrible new one. Why waste so much space on the left?

@  Steevy Maximus : (07 August 2020 - 08:28 PM)

@Bass X0, yeah, the Joe comic got REALLY solid in the upper 20s to the Cobra Civil War. It's interesting to see how well the Joe comic has aged relative to the cartoon. Where as I feel the opposite is true of Transformers

@  -LittleAutob... : (07 August 2020 - 03:58 PM)

Its so fun watching past TF Conventions.

@  Bass X0 : (07 August 2020 - 02:20 PM)

I've been reading classic 80s G.I. Joe lately. Its still decent even though I don't have any nostalgia towards it.

@  Sabrblade : (07 August 2020 - 08:50 AM)

Think of it as Adam West Batman instead. ;)

@  wonko the sane? : (07 August 2020 - 07:49 AM)

That sounds more like the flash, or maybe booster gold than batman.

@  Sabrblade : (07 August 2020 - 12:27 AM)

They would get bored fighting each other and instead decide to take an epic cross-country road trip together.

@  RichardT1977 : (06 August 2020 - 08:57 PM)

What would happen if Batman were to fight Squirrel Girl?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (04 August 2020 - 09:03 PM)

Unless you count the Mask vs Lobo special, but that's less a duel and more a duet.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (04 August 2020 - 08:52 PM)

My favorite crossover fight was Thor vs Shazam/Captain Marvel. Early in the fight, Thor discovers that Billy Batson needs lightning to transform, and being a god of lightning he simply denies him that.

@  Sabrblade : (04 August 2020 - 08:46 PM)

Let's see a fight between Death Battle and Super Power Beat Down

@  TheMightyMol... : (04 August 2020 - 06:15 PM)

Which Lobo later claimed was because he was paid to take a dive. Yes, really.

"Yes, this is the moth demon, Moscareina."

Nodding as the bug witch spoke, Kage saw the truth of what she said. Although he was still intrigued as to why she would even alert them to thus danger. Was it really as simple as not wanting any competition?

"Eneny of my enemy? Yee, i see what you mean. Unscrupulous mortals attempt to acheive ascension in a higher plane should not be allowed. Especially a Thief God.

Should we do this, i would like the answer to one question, Mossy. I want to know the root of your hatred. Not for us specifically, but the reason for your desire to take the workd away from people and warp it for yourself?"

At Destrons odd comment and clenched teeth, Kage turned his head to look at her.

"What do you mean by 'prevent a new goddess from rising', Lady Destron. To whom do you refer?"

"Had we lost instead of prevailing ... do you believe she would still be referred to as a demon?"  Destron's eyes soften as she looks from the woman to the man.  "Do not mistake my courtly demeanor for friendliness or flirtation Sir Kage, As a crowned Princess I am schooled in diplomacy as well as the blade."

"Okay."

The matter clarified, he frowns and pins his ears.

Kages grin widened as he laughed, Destrons reference to their prior battle (and defeat) of the bug witch had indeed almost gone over his head. "You do indeed have a way with words, Lady Destron. Indeed, what a dark goddess Mossy might have been, had we not put a stop to it."

Looking down at Night Cap, he said.

"Not to worry my friend, had she the power to attack us, she would have done so. Mossy requires a host and a ritual to truly enter and affect this plane of reality. Both of which, we have prevented her from getting.

By the sound of it though, our demonic frenemy here is the lesser of evils today."

"Perhaps. However, let us not for a moment forget that a mutual enemy may only make for an alliance of convenience... should we fail, she will not weep for us... should we be victorious but if the battle to come weakens us -do not trust to good faith, she will set upon us - it is her nature." Destron again turns to the woman. "I wish to be wrong - but perhaps those impulses are but a remnant of Chur's memories playing at the back of my mind. She would wish better for you"

Nodding, Kage replied.

"This is very much a win-win situation for her. We win, one potential threat is dealt with. We lose, another threat is dealt with and the world suffers. You are right Lady, she would not miss us were we defeated. Whatever happens next, we must stay vigilant."

"I disagree with the assessment of not being a goddess. I wasn't trying to ascend--I was trying to cross over to your plane. Otherwise, the princess is quite right in that to ask me why I feel the way I do what I do is akin to me asking you why you breathe. It's in my nature. True, Tijuego has had an effect on me and loss has forced me to adapt but that's not important right now.

Your quarry is very much the muscular and hearty Viknadian. Not as fair skinned as the princess but of the north all the same. Boastful and cocky in a smug and self assured manner. In the event that you encounter Varian, I give you this as a sign that he should stay his hand and listen to a temporary truce."
Moscareina reached her hand into the coconut shell until it was all the way up her arm. She then pulled out a marble sized orb in a pale, speckled green. Her hand wholly dry despite her actions, she paused in confusion then looked at Beathra. "I believe you are the only one who I can give this to. For your sake, don't drop it."

Beathra raised his eyebrows with a enigmatic smile at her comment and received the orb, testing its weight in his hand and peering closely at it, before stowing the item away in his cloak. When his hand came out, it now held his long stemmed pipe.

As he filled it, he said, "A temporary truce, eh? Very curious wording, that."

Snapping his finger beside the bowl, it lit and he took a contemplative draw, continuing, "What are we meant to do with this man, once we find and forestall him? Clearly he's not meant to be killed, otherwise you would hardly be looking to us or offering a means to simply halt him. I presume you'll be watching, waiting for the task to be completed, so you may step in. I do wonder..." here he trailed off, leaving further contemplations for his own mind. "In any case, the sooner we can get started, the sooner we can have it done."

Voice low and cold, Kage snapped.

"So your nature is to be a hateful, manipulative witch, who will trick and deceive anyone she wants into helping rot the world into a decaying, festering mess?

Good to know."

With a deep breath, Kage controlled himself and moved back to the matter at hand.

"Hmm. So this 'Valerian' is to be stopped and delayed?"

"How amusing o knight. If you add in a 'Thou foul villain' or two you'll make me nostalgic. However, I believe you may have your wires crossed. You can kill your quarry for all I care, I just didn't think that was your style. 'Varian' is my champion, Varian Stalebutter, Champion Like No Other. I'd rather he work with you than get in the way.

And besides, I only deceive when it suits my needs."
During this conversation, Beathra felt that the orb was warm and slightly soft.

"Ah," Said Beathra, "My apologies... you had not mentioned a champion till now, so I assumed that was your quarry's name. We shall keep an eye open for them."

"If there is nothing else we ought to know, then I think it would be best for us to be on our way."  Here he began to turn, then stopped, "For the record," he added in a oddly earnest voice, "I believe you. I do not trust you. But, I believe you. And I think it would be in everyone's interest to see this task done."

Beathra turned and motioned to his compatriots, "Come Kage, Destron," he said with a smile, "Let's not keep the Goddess waiting. We have much to do and the day is waning. Unpleasant tasks are only less enjoyable the longer you put them off."

"Varian Stalebutter. Ah yes, your competitor from our contest for Howards food.

My mistake.

I'm not sure i'd call him a 'Champion Like No Other', unless you count serving you. Still, it will be interesting to meet again. And on the same side this time too.

'sigh'

No, death is not my first or second option. Though it does tend to be yours. At least, when you can;t charm your way into someones good graces. Regardless, we should probably begin our search."

Kage gave an exaggerated bow to the witch and said.

"Until we meet again, thou foul villain."

As everyone walked away from Moscareina, someone crashed into Kage and papers went flying. It was a brunette woman in her lower twenties with thick glasses. Flustered and nervous as she began picking up papers, until she looked up and everyone saw that it was Marguerite the sandwich delivery girl. "Sorry about that I was in a rush to visit some relatives and *GASP* it's you again. That was totally my mistake mister I wasn't looking where I was going but I'll clean this up. Hope I didn't hit you too hard but...do you work out? You seemed kinda strong when I crashed into you like you do sports like maybe fencing or rowing a boat.

...

You're not gonna sue me are you?"

Taken aback by Margurites sudden appearance, Kage was about to (kindof) answer her 'questions'. When her last words threw him off completely. Stooping to help pick up her papers, he said in a confused tone of voice.

"Sue you? What for? It's not like you did it on purpose."

"Well, some customers are less understanding than others. One threatened to sue because the pickles they ordered on the side touched one of their sandwiches. They didn't but is still wasn't a pleasant delivery. And it tends to be the richer customers who complain more about the small stuff so thank you for being a rich person but not like those rich people." Marguerite seemed relieved. She was also heavily blushing.

"Uh... 'cough' you're welcome Miss Marguerite."

Kage reached up to rub the back his neck, unnerved by Marguerites blushing and her (possibly?) unintentional reminder of her 'piratey dream'.

"Y-yeah, some rich people can be jerks. I mean, it was only pickles. I'd like to think i'll never be that picky about my food. No ever take out any frustration on the delivery girl because i'm too arrogant for my own good." Smiling nervously as he kindof rambled, Kage added. "I have... ways of making sure money never goes to my head.

"Oh my. With you not having a peg leg or missing a hand or something you must be very coordinated with your sword. Rich, talented, and and and and..."

"I couldn't help but overhear and I happen to do a lot of sailing." Stepping right in front of Kage was a muscular, tanned, and shirtless man. His baggy, vertical striped trousers were held up with a thick black leather belt whose buckle had a stylized maple leaf similar to some elements of Dee's armor. With a bandana topping his head and a smug smile topping his expression, he said, "I'm sure I could take you on quite the fantastic voyage."

"Your voyaging has clearly never taught you manners," Kage snapped without thinking as the 'smug expression' stepped in his way.

Then he looked again. Tall, muscular, not a local, brash and loud. With a Maple leaf buckle.

This guy definitely seems like he could be our quarry.
The maple buckle does indeed imply a possible connection to Viknadia.
It does?
I said possibly. Look again though. The design does seem to resemble the aesthetic of our warrior Princesses armour.
So it does. Interesting.

Beathra stepped forward without hesitation with a beaming smile.

"Aye," he said jovially, "it is clear from your bearing that you have sailed many a sea!"

Here he gave a slight pause, seeming to bask in the man's glory, then continued, "I once knew a sailor - quite a worthy one at that - and he told me, though far and wide the seaman may travel, he'll always take, as he put it 'a bit-o-home' with him.  Some trinket or bauble to announce with pride his homeland. And I see that you possess a Viknadian leaf of remarkable craftsmanship and detail. If what my dear friend told me is true, you must have traveled far indeed!"
